  • Extramedullary plasmacytoma and solitary plasmacytoma are localized neoplasms. Solitary plasmacytoma of bone consists about 4% of malignant plasma cell tumors. A plasmacytoma involving the frontal bone is unusual, and a limited number of cases have been reported. We present a rare case of a solitary plasmacytoma of the frontal bone manifesting as a forehead lump.

  • For decades, solitary waves have commonly been used to simulate tsunami conditions in numerical studies. However, the main component of a tsunami waveform acts at completely different spatial and temporal distributions than a solitary waveform. Thus, this study applied a 2-D numerical wave tank that included a non-reflected tsunami generation system based on Navier-Stokes equations (LES-WASS-2D) to directly simulate the run-up of a tsunami-like solitary wave on a slope. First, the waveform and velocity due to the virtual depth factor were applied to the numerical wave tank to generate a tsunami, which made it possible to generate the wide waveform of a tsunami, which was not reproduced with the existing solitary wave approximation theory. Then, to validate the applied numerical model, the validity and effectiveness of the numerical wave tank were verified by comparing the results with the results of a laboratory experiment on a tsunami run-up on a smooth impermeable 1:19.85 slope. Using the numerical results, the run-up characteristics due to a tsunami-like solitary wave on an impermeable slope were also discussed in relation to the volume ratio. The maximum run-up heights increased with the ratio of the tsunami waveform. Therefore, the tsunami run-up is highly likely to be underestimated compared to a real tsunami if the solitary wave of the approximation theory is applied in a tsunami simulation in a coastal region.

  • Plasmacytoma is a plasma cell neoplasm that locally infiltrates a bone or spreads to extramedullary areas. A new World Health Organization criterion defines solitary plasmacytoma of bone as a localized bone tumor consisting of plasma cells identical to those seen in plasma cell myeloma, which is manifested as a solitary osteolytic lesion in a radiological evaluation. Primary tumors of the sternum are generally malignant, and solitary plasmacytomas of the sternum are very rare tumors. We present herein the case of a patient who had a primary sternal tumor with solitary plasmacytoma and no evidence of multiple myeloma.

  • Benign neural sheath neoplasms are not common in the maxillofacial region. These lesions can occur as solitary tumors, or they can affect many sites in the form of multiple neurofibromatosis. A solitary neurofibroma is seldom undergo sarcomatous transformation, since solitary neurofibroma is relatively radioresistant and its recurrence rate seems to be low, the treatment of choice is surgical excision. This case showed a solitary neurofibroma in the left side of the floor of mouth which occurred in a 33 - year -old female. The tumor was excised. And there is no evidence of disease. She is satisfied in function and esthetic aspect.

  • Solitary fibrous tumor is a spindle cell neoplasm that can arise in any place of the body. Intracranial solitary fibrous tumors are rare. To our knowledge, only 57 cases with intracranial lesion have been reported. In Korea three cases have been reported. Our case was a 23-year-old woman who presented with morning headache. MRI showed a large intra-axial mass involving falx with typically isointense and heterogeneous strong enhancement on T1 weighted image in the right parieto-occipital region. Histologically the tumor showed spindle shaped cells within matrix with thick collagen deposition, hypercellularity, focal necrosis, and pleomorphism. Immunohistochemical study demonstrated diffuse positivity for CD34, Vimentin, Reticulin. In case of the intracranial tumors involving the meninges, we also should consider the solitary fibrous tumor with immunohistochemical staining for accurate diagnosis.

  • A clear consensus has not been established regarding the best treatment for solitary bone metastasis. Here, we reviewed the medical records of patients with a controlled primary malignancy who had only solitary spine metastasis without metastasis to the extraspinal bone or viscera and underwent treatment between April 2007 and December 2012 with stereotactic body radiosurgery using CyberKnife, with a total dose of 24 Gy in three to four fractions. During that time, there were only four cases. This was effective in each case, and all the four patients had no local failure and remained alive at a median follow-up of 68 months (range, 64 to 80 months). Although our experience is limited, this study suggests that stereotactic body radiotherapy could be a feasible, safe, effective, and noninvasive alternative treatment for solitary spine metastasis in patients who are medically inoperable or unsuitable for surgery.

  • A solitary fibrous tumor in the pleura has been reported occasionally, but extremely rare in themediastinum. The histogenesis of this tumor has been still in controverse, but recent studies paid attention to it a mesenchymal origin by the immunohistochemical and ultrastructural bases. A few cases, reported in the literature, suggest that the mediastinal solitary fibrous tumor occurs more commonly in adult and shows slightly higher incidence in women. Its aggressive behavior such as recurrence rate and distant metastasis, is more prominant than reported in solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura. No single histologic feature allows an assumption definite prognosis. Surgical resection of this tumor is usually curative although the recurrence or distant metastasis are reported in about half of the patients. This report is a case of solitary fibrous tumor in the mediastinum in a 16-year-old female patient. She underwent surgical resection and her postoperative result was satisfactory.

  • Solitary fibrous tumor is rare benign mesenchymal neoplasm. The spinal solitary fibrous tumor is extremely rare. The authors experienced a case of intramedullary solitary fibrous tumor of cervicothoracic spinal cord in a 48-year-old man with right lower extremity sensory disturbance. Spinal MRI showed intradural mass lesion in the level of C7-T1, the margin between the spinal cord and tumor was not clear on MRI. A Left unilateral laminectomy and mass removal was performed. Intra operative finding, the tumor boundary was unclear from spinal cord and it had intramedullary and extramedullary portion. After surgery, patient had good recovery and had uneventful prognosis. Follow up spinal MRI showed no recurrence of tumor.

  • This paper adopts the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) open-source code SPHinXsys to study the solitary wave interaction with coastal structures. The convergence properties of the model in terms of particle size and smoothing length are tested based on the example of solitary wave propagation in a flat-bottom wave flume. After that, the solitary wave interactions with a suspended submerged flat plate and deck with girders are studied. The wave profile and velocity field near the surface of the structures, as well as the wave forces exerted onto the structures are analyzed.

  • In this paper we have examined the effect of dust charge density on nonlinear ion acoustic solitary wave which propagates obliquely with respect to the external magnetic field in a dusty plasma. For the dusty charge density below a critical value, the Sagdeev potential $\Psi1(n)$ has a singular point in the region n < 1, where n is the ion number density divided by its equilibrium number density. If there exists a dust charge density over the critical value, the Sagdeev potential becomes a finite function in the region n < 1, which means that there may exist the rarefactive ion acoustic solitary wave. By expanding the Sagdeev potential in the small amplitude limit up to on4 near n=1, we find the solution of ion acoustic solitary wave. Therefore we suggest that the dust charge density plays an important role in generating the rarefactive solitary wave.
