  • In this paper, the fire risk using a bimetal type thermometer for construction installation is presented. Because construction equipment is used widely in the field and the site is exposed to explosions and fire by combustible gas or fume, strong restrictions on the structure and usage are applied. Moreover, the risk of fire increases as precise temperature measurements are poorly conducted via an inner temperature sensor inside construction furnace. Therefore, this paper presents the results of structural analysis of a bimetal temperature sensor which is used widely in construction installation and temperature measurement experiments relative to the material property of the target object. The results revealed the relatively precise temperature of the liquid object, whereas those of the gas and solid object showed a lower temperature compared to the real temperature. This shows that bimetal-type temperature sensor is more suitable for measuring a liquid state object than measuring a gas or solid state object.

  • A constant temperature type of flow sensor using a solid state micromachining technology was developed for measuring the velocity of gas or liquid. It was designed to detect only the heat convection related to flow velocity. Other heat transfer terms and common mode interferences are canceled by differentiating both reference and exposed flow sensor. It employs the principle that the change of current through the sensing element can be used to measure the flow velocity. An experimental study of the behavior on this flow sensor was performed in a narrow tube(diameter : 8mm) for city water. The relation between power consumption of the flow sensor and square-root of flow velocity is almost linear in the low velocity range(0-200 cm/sec).

  • Conventional leak detectors are widely based on helium gas sensors. However, the usage of hydrogen sensors in leak detectors has increased because of the high prices of helium leak detectors and the dearth in the supply of helium gas. In this study, a hydrogen leak detector was developed using solid-state hydrogen sensors. The hydrogen sensors are based on Park-Rapp probes with heterojunctions made by oxygen-ion conducting Yttria-stabilized zirconia and proton-conducting In-doped $CaZrO_3$. The hydrogen sensors were used for determining the potential difference between air and air balanced 5 ppm of $H_2$. Even though the Park-Rapp probe shows an excellent selectivity for hydrogen, the sensitivity of the sensor was low because of the low concentration of hydrogen, and the oxygen on the surface of the sensor. In order to increase the sensitivity of the sensor, the sensors were connected in series by Pt wires to increase the potential difference. The sensors were tested at temperatures ranging from $500-600^{\circ}C$.

  • The present paper describes the design of a Solid State Telescope (SST) on board the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute satellite-1 (KASISat-1) consisting of four [TBD] nanosatellites. The SST will measure these radiation belt electrons from a low-Earth polar orbit satellite to study mechanisms related to the spatial resolution of electron precipitation, such as electron microbursts, and those related to the measurement of energy dispersion with a high temporal resolution in the sub-auroral regions. We performed a simulation to determine the sensor design of the SST using GEometry ANd Tracking 4 (GEANT4) simulations and the Bethe formula. The simulation was performed in the range of 100 ~ 400 keV considering that the electron, which is to be detected in the space environment. The SST is based on a silicon barrier detector and consists of two telescopes mounted on a satellite to observe the electrons moving along the geomagnetic field (pitch angle $0^{\circ}$) and the quasi-trapped electrons (pitch angle $90^{\circ}$) during observations. We determined the telescope design of the SST in view of previous measurements and the geometrical factor in the cylindrical geometry of Sullivan (1971). With a high spectral resolution of 16 channels over the 100 keV ~ 400 keV energy range, together with the pitch angle information, the designed SST will answer questions regarding the occurrence of microbursts and the interaction with energetic particles. The KASISat-1 is expected to be launched in the latter half of 2020.

  • This study focused on the charateristic of magnetic fluids, the viscosity deviation of magnetic fluids due to temperature changes, and fabrication of a 'purely' liquid type microvalve. The viscosity of magnetic fluids decreases sharply during increasing of temperature. The viscosity of magnetic fluids is rated 1,000 cP at the room temperature and 25 cP when the temperature reaches $100^{\circ}C$. Briefly, it is remarkable that the fluid flow can be controlled by the temperature and this characteristic can be adopted to the microfluidics as a microvalve. The fabrication of a liquid type microvalve is more easy than solid state microvalves and which can increase an efficiency of the controlability with respect to the thermo-pneumatic micropump which is studied broadly for many years. When the magnetic fluid used as a sealant for high level sealing, the pressure leakage is less than solid state microvalve. The experimental results show that the pressure drop in microchannel, filled with the magnetic fluid, is significant in the temperature range of $20^{\circ}C{\sim}50^{\circ}C$ and this result explains why the use of magnetic fluids is possible as a microvalve searcher uses this characteristics. Well known thermo-pnumatic.

  • A solid-state reaction of $V_2O_5$ with AlMCM-41 followed by calcinations generated $V^{5+}$ species in the mesoporous materials. Dehydration results in the formation of a vanadyl species, $VO^{2+}$, that can be characterized by electron spin resonance (ESR). The chemical environment of the vanadium centers in V-AlMCM-41 was investigated by XRD, EDX, diffuse reflectance UV-VIS, ESR, $^{29}Si,\;^{27}Al,\;and\;^{51}V$ NMR. It was found that the vanadium species on the wall surface and inside the wall of the hexagonal tubular wall of the V-AlMCM-41 were completely oxidized to tetrahedral $V^{5+}$ and transformed to square pyramidal by additional coordination to water molecules upon hydration. The oxidized $V^{5+}$ species on the wall surfaces and inside the wall were also reversibly reduced to $VO^{2+}$ species or lower valences by thermal process.

  • Recently the examples of a designing a building-lighting to which LED, a solid state Lighting, is applied are increasing in number, but the development of lighting apparatus and the techniques applied to a designing lighting apparatus frequently don't fit to a new source of light. This essay refers to the matters relevant to the techniques for designing a lighting, which are controlled with a digital technology, and the effectiveness of a "Interactive-lighting technique" which has a ductility by a sensor with developing a digital source of light module and applying it to a real designing a building-lighting . In the negative aspect that a digital technology can standardize a space for a lighting, a "Interactive-lighting Technique", which detects an analogic change of nature through a sensor and produces it, can become a new alternative one.

  • [ $CaZrO_3$ ] humidity sensors were prepared using the solid-state synthetic method and their humidity sensitive characteristics have been investigated. It was found that the impedance of the humidity sensors decreased with increasing relative humidity and the humidity sensitivity depended on the applied frequencies. The sensitivity of sensor is stable with heat treatment and a negligible hysteresis under cyclic humidity changes is shown, and the activation energy for electrical conduction is reduced with water adsorption.

  • We have developed a compact, wavelength-selectable, Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at mid ultraviolet for chemical warfare agent detection. The fundamental wave at 1064 nm is delivered by a pulsed solid state laser incorporating with a square-type Nd:YAG rod in a resonator closed by two crossed Porro prisms for environmental reliability. The output energy at 213 nm ($5{\omega}$) and 266 nm ($4{\omega}$) by ${\chi}^{(2)}$ process in the sequentially disposed BBO crystals are measured to be 6.8 mJ and 15.1 mJ, respectively. The output wavelength is selected for $5{\omega}$ and $4{\omega}$ by a motorized wavelength switch. The energy ratio of the $5{\omega}$ to the $4{\omega}$ is varied from 0.05 to 0.85 by controlling the phase matching temperature of the nonlinear crystal for sum-frequency generation without change of the output pulse parameters.
