The rheological properties and food functionality of the novel sugar derivatives, fructo-oligosaccharide, high maltose syrup(HMS), maltitol and sorbitol were examined and compared to those of sucrose. All samples tested showed Newtonian fluid property at the concentration range of 10% to the original concentrated products containing $69{\sim}81%w/w$ solid. HMS showed the highest viscosity. The viscosity increased(r=0.8038) as the average molecular weight of sugar derivatives were increased. The viscosity increased exponentially as the concentration increased, and sugar alcohols had lower value of the exponent compared to HMS and fructo-oligosaccharide. The viscosity of sugar derivatives solutions decreased by the increasing temperature following the Arrhenius equation. The flow activation energies of sorbitol and HMS were higer than that of sucrose. Substitution of sucrose with fructo-oligosaccharide in apple jam processing did not change the textural characteristics, but in redbean jelly(yanggaeng) it reduced the hardness, adhesiveness, springiness and cohesiveness. When sucrose was 100% replaced by HMS, the texture of apple jam and redbean jelly was not changed, but by mixing sucrose and HMS 1 : 1 ratio, the hardness decreased substantially The sugar alcohols reduced the hardness, adhesiveness, springiness of apple jam and redbean jelly significantly. Addition of fructo-oligosaccharide and HMS to sucrose did not influence the solidifying rate of candy, but sorbitol, even at 10% addition, retarded the candy moulding.
Dried soybeans (varieties: Saeal, Kwanggyo, Tanyob) took up water rapidly for first 3hr followed by a slower rate of uptake. The beans took up an equal weight of water (100% hydration)after approximately 3.5hr at $50^{\circ}C$, 5hr at $30^{\circ}C$ and 7.5hr at $20^{\circ}C$ respectively. pH of the soaking solutions decreased during the soaking period. This was undoubtedly caused by the ionization of the cellular components resulting in increased levels of hydrogen ions in the liquor. Soluble solids were leached out of the beans at fairly steady rate throughout the hydration and the amount was greater with higher temperature. This amounted to 0.4-0.7g at $20^{\circ}C$ and 10.2-15.0g at $50^{\circ}C$ per 100g soybeans. Temperature was the most important factor in determining the rate of water absorption and of solid losses. Of the total solids lost, 12-25% was protein. The proportion of protein loss increased as the soaking time and temperature increase. Amount of protein loss was 80-200mg at $20^{\circ}C$ and 440-480mg at $50^{\circ}C$ after 24hr soaking per 100g soybeans. About 5% of soluble sugars, including fructose, sucrose, raffinose, and stachyose, was removed from the beans after 24hr soaking at $20^{\circ}C$.

The updated Lagrangian Finite Element Method is introduced to analyse rigid body-fluid impact problem which is characterized by incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and impact-contact conditions between free surface and rigid body. For the convenience of numerical computation, velocity fields are splinted into vicous and pressure parts, and then the governing equations and boundary conditions are decomposed in accordance with the decomposition. However, Viscous stresses acting an the solid boundaries are neglected on the assumption that very small velocity gradients may occur during extremely small time interval of the impact. Four coded quadrilateral elements are used to discretize the space domain and the fully explicit time-marching algorithm is employed with a reasonably small time step. At the beginning of each time step, contact velocity of the rigid body is computed from the momentum balance between the body and the fluid. The velocity field is then computed to satisfy the discretized equations of motions and incompressibility and contact constraints as well as an exact free surface boundary condition. At the end of each time step, the fluid domain is updated from the velocity field. In the present time stepping numerical analysis, behaviour of the free surface near the body can be observed without any difficulty which is very important in the water impact problem. The applicability of the algorithm is illustrated by a wedge type falling body problem. The numerical solutions for time-varying pressure distributions and impact loadings acting ion the surface are obtained.

A series of samples in the $Nd_{-x}Sr_{x}CoO_{3-y}$ system (x = 0.00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00) have been produced by heating the reactants at 1200${\circ}$C under atmospheric pressure. The solid solutions were analysed by X-ray diffraction spectra, thermal analysis, and SEM micrographs. X-ray powder diffraction assigns the compositions of x = 0.00, 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75 to the cubic system and the composition of x = 1.00 to the orthorhombic system. The reduced lattice volume is increased with increasing x values in the system. The mole ratio of $Co^{4+}$ or ${\tau}$ values are determined by the Iodometric titration method and are maximum at the composition of x = 0.50. The magnetic measurement shows that a ferromagnetism is appeared in the compositions of x = 0.00, 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75 and then an antiferromagnetism in the composition of x = 1.00. The measurement of the electrical conductivity shows that the semiconductivity is appeared in the composition of x = 0.00, 0.25 and 1.00 and the metallic conductivity in the composition of x = 0.50 and 0.75. The magnetic and electrical properties of the samples are discussed with the nonstoichiometric chemical formulas.

Non-enzymatic browning is a carbohydrate dehydration reaction, accelerated thorough the interaction of amino compounds. Reaction depends on several factors including temperature, reactant concentration, pH, water activity and specific ion concentrations, and result in progressive development of brown pigments in the affected food systems. The present study was designed to utilize a kinetic approach to analyze the effect of temperature and water activity on the browning development in green ten. The green tea was controlled at aw of 0.33, 0.44, 0.52 and 0.65 using saturated salt solutions and then stored at 35,45 and $55^{\circ}C$. Author portion of the sample of which the water activities were controlled in the same manner was stored at 35 and $55^{\circ}C$ alternately with 7 days interval. Simplified kinetic models were used to obtain the various kinetic parameters for browning development in green tea subjected to accelerated shelf-life tests(ASLT). The reaction of browning development was zero order. The activation energies calculated from Arrhenius plot ranged $1.5{\sim}2.4kcal/mole$ and $Q_{10}$ values were between 1.07 and 1.12. These kinetic parameters were then used to predict browning development under the nonsteady storage. Assessed from the parameters the shelf-lives at $25^{\circ}C$, the time to reach 1.02 O.D./g solid at which severe brown color change could be detectable, ranged 57 to 113 days and showed decrease with increase in aw. The predicted shelf-lives at different water activities were a little higher than actual values.
In this study, waste ITO target is dissolved into hydrochloric acid to generate a complex indium-tin chloride solution. Nano sized ITO powder with an average particle size below 30 nm are generated from these raw material solutions by spray pyrolysis process. Also, in this study, thermodynamic equations for the formation of indium-tin oxide (ITO) are established. As the reaction temperature increased from $800^{\circ}C$ to $900^{\circ}C$, the proportion and size of the spherical droplet shape in which nano sized particles aggregated gradually decreased, and the surface structure gradually became densified. When the reaction temperature was $800^{\circ}C$, the average particle size of the generated powder was about 20 nm, and no significant sintering was observed. At a reaction temperature of $900^{\circ}C$, the split of the droplet was more severe than at $800^{\circ}C$, and the rate of maintenance of the initial atomized droplet shape decreased sharply. The average particle size of the powder formed was about 25 nm. The ITO particles were composed of single solid crystals, regardless of reaction temperature. XRD analysis showed that only the ITO phase was formed. Remarkably, the specific surface area decreased by about 30% as the reaction temperature increased from $800^{\circ}C$ to $900^{\circ}C$.

In the past, facile dissolution of cellulose has been hampered by the lack of suitable nondegrading solvents. Recently, this problem has been solved in our laboratory by the discovery of an inexpensive, convenient solvent system, that is the mixture of $NH_3\;and\;NH_4SCN$, for cellulose. Also, the $cellulose/NH_3/NH_4SCN$ solution system has been found to form the anisotropic, i.e., liquid crystalline phase. It is believed that both the cholesterio and the nematic phase occur. This finding has prompted extensive on-going researoh on the formation of the liquid crystalline phase from an inexpensive natural source such as cellulose since the nematic phase is envisioned as an excellent precursor sources for products with desirable properties, for example, high modulus and high strength. This interest naturally leads to a desire to understand the theological properties of the nematic phase so that the transformation of the nematic phase to the solid state with desirable properties can be efficiently accomplished, ;From this point of view, the theological behavior of the $cellulose/NH3_/NH_4SCN$ system has been studied as a function of shear rate and shear stress over a wide range of solvent compositions, cellulose concentration, centrifugation and urea contents, Results indicate that the viscosity decreases with increasing shear rate. A marked shear thinning behavior and a quasi-Newtonian behavior were observed in the low shear rate region and in the high shear rate region, respectively for all solvent compositions. The $cellulose/NH_3/NH_4SCN$ solution system only exhibited the viscosity increase with increasing cellulose concentration and failed to show the viscosity drop generally observed at the point of incipience of liquid crystal formation, This may be due to the gel-like nature of the solution by the association of the rodlike molecules into bundles which may serve as crosslinking points giving the cellulose solution a network structure. Also, simply hydrogen bonding may be so restrictive of molecular mobility that a viscosity drop is blocked. In addition to the above results, yield stress and thixotropy were also observed in the $cellulose/NH_3/NB_4SCN$ solution system which are characteristics of liquid crystal and gel, The results of the effect of centrifugation on viscosity show that viscosity decreases by the application of centrifugation. This may be explained by the change of the piled polydomain structure to the dispersed polydomain structure due to the pressure gradient generated during centrifugation.ation.

This study investigated the effect of heat treatment conditions not only on the Cr surface crack propagation behaviors but also on the Ni/Cr interfacial reaction characteristics in electroless Ni/electroplated Cr double coating layers on Cu substrate. Clear band layer of Ni-Cr solid solutions were developed at Ni/Cr interface after heat treatment at $750^{\circ}C$ for 6 h. Channeling cracks formed in Cr layer after 1 step heat treatment, that is, heat treatment after Ni/Cr plating, while little channeling cracks formed after 2 step heat treatment, that is, same heat treatments after Ni and Cr plating, respectively, due to residual stress relaxation due to crystallization of Ni layer before Cr plating.
To investigate the adsorption-desorption reaction of Cd by sewage sludge, the adsorption of Cd from $Cd(NO_3)_2$ solutions of concentrations ranging from 5 to $50{\mu}g\;Cd\;mL^{-1}$ by sewage sludge was examined for reaction periods up to 48 hours. The amount of Cd adsorbed as a function of time was measured. The adsorption between Cd in solution and the solid phase could be described by two stages. The initial adsorption of Cd was very rapid, that is, approximately 95% of the added Cd was removed from solution within the first 30 minutes. Further, the greater the concentration of Cd added, the greater was the amount of Cd adsorbed. After the rapid initial decrease of Cd, a slower decline in the Cd concentration resulted which followed first order reversible kinetics. The equilibrium concentrations for the reactions, as well as the time period for the equilibrium reactions were dependent on the initial Cd concentrations. If equilibrium is reached, the amount of Cd remaining in solution is greater when the amount adsorbed is higher, although the percentage of Cd in solution is constant relative to the initial concentration of Cd. Some of the adsorbed Cd was released back to solution since the concentration of Cd after 48 hours was higher than the equilibrium concentration of Cd. However, despite the increased amount of Cd measured, the overall net reaction was a significant adsorption of Cd from solution by sewage sludge.
Phosphorus accumulation in fertilized soils becomes serious problem for agriculture and the environment. In this investigation, we conducted a laboratory scale investigation to find the most desirable displacement methods of the adsorbed phosphate onto the soil particle surfaces. Soil samples which contained high amount of phosphate were collected at two different depths (0-10 cm and 10-20 cm) from four locations at the moderate highland located in Nonsan, Chungnam. To observe the mobilization of solid-phase phosphate, soil samples were equilibrated with oxalic acid solutions ranging from $10^{-5}$ to $10^{-1}cmol\;L^{-1}$ with the dilution factors of 1:1, 1:2.5, 1:5, 1:10, and 1:20. The mineralized P sharply increased as the concentration of oxalic acid was greater than $5{\times}10^{-4}cmol\;L^{-1}$ under dilution factors of 1:1, 1:2.5, and 1:5. The breaking concentration of oxalic acid was lowered to $10^{-4}cmol\;L^{-1}$ and $5{\times}10^{-5}cmol\;L^{-1}$ for dilution factors of 1:10 and 1:20, respectively. The curve fit obtained from the graph can be described by exponential growth when the dilution factors were 1:1, 1:2.5, and 1:5 while the sigmoidal shape for 1:10 and 1:20, showing the mineralization of P were significantly dependent on the dilution factor.
