  • The main advantage of dissolved air flotation (DAF) in water treatment process is the small dimension compared with conventional gravity sedimentation and it can be basically reduced by the separation zone performed with the short solid-liquid separation time. Fine bubbles make such a short time possible to carry out solid from liquid separation as a collector on the course of water treatment. Therefore, the dimension of separation zone in DAF process is practically determined by the rise velocity of the bubble-floc agglomerates, which is a floc attached with several bubbles. To improve flotation velocity and particle removal efficiency in DAF process, many researchers have tried to attach bubbles as much as possible to flocs. Therefore, the maximum number of attached bubble on a floc and the rise velocity of bubble-floc agglomerates considered as the most important factor to design the separation zone of flotation tank in DAF process was simulated based on the population balance theory. According to the simulation results of this study, the size and volume concentration of bubble influenced on the possible number of attached bubble on a floc. The agglomerates attached with smaller bubble was more sensitive to hydraulic loading rate in the separation zone of DAF process. For the design of a high rate DAF process applied over surface loading 40 m/hr. it is required a precise further study on the variation of bubble property and behavior including in terms of bubble size distribution.

  • In this study, we are crystallized to the low density polyethylene (LDPE) micro-particles in $n$-dodecanol solution by thermally induced phase separation(TIPS) method. The Low density polyethylene micro-particles is used in a wide variety of polymer coatings and industrial application. The utility of that for a particular application depends on a number of factors such as the particle size and distribution, and chemical composition of the materials. However, there are still needs for new methods of preparation which will provide the structure with unique sizes. The widely used processes for micro-size particles are crystallization method and thermally induced phase separation. TIPS process based on the phase separation mechanism was performed for the LDPE system which undergoes liquid-solid phase separation. Effects of various operating parameters were examined on the structure variation of the particles. Professionality, take-up speed and crystallization rate depended on temperature and concentration of polymer in solution.

하이브리드 로켓에서의 고체연료의 국부 후퇴율에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Local Regression Rate of Solid Fuel in Hybrid Rocket)

  • In generally, the regression rate was expressed with average value and oxidizer mass flux in hybrid propulsion system. This can not represent the local value of regression rate along with oxidizer flow direction. In this study, experimental studies were performed with Separation method and Cutting method for measure local regression rate. In axial injection, the local regression rate decreases rapidly with axial location near entrance and increases with axial direction from the leading edge and the empirical formula for local regression rate with function of oxidizer mass flux and location was derived. Swirl injection regression rate has higher value at the leading edge of the fuel and comparatively uniform regression rate at the downstream. Overall regression rate of swirl injection is higher increased about 54 % than regression rate of axial injection.

  • It needs several large reservoirs and long time to remove suspended solid like steel fines and iron oxide in hot rolling coolant. If removing rate of suspended solid in rolling coolant is improved by using high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) system, the productivity of working process can be increased and the area of reservoir can be reduced. Pre-treatment process that react magnetic floc with inorganic and organic flocculant in coolant was studied. Horizontal type superconducting HGMS system was manufactured successfully, which was constituted with automatic filter transportation apparatus, 6 T He-free superconducting magnet system and water circulation system. The solid suspension removal ratio in hot rolling coolant was increased by flocculation with inorganic and organic flocculant.

Pre-treatment to add extra magnetization of suspended solid was studied Iron hydroxide and electrolytic dissociation were used for pretreatment. High gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) system was used for removing of magnetized suspended solid. Removing ratio showed over than 99% in the coolant containing magnetic fines. Magnetic properties of suspended solid were investigated after mixed with Al2(SO2)3 and organic flocculant by using electrochemical treatment.

Separation Performance of a Low-pressure Hydrocyclone for Suspended Solids in a Recirculating Aquaculture System

  • The separation performance of a low-pressure hydrocyclone (LPH) was evaluated for suspended-solids removal in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). The dimensions of the LPH were 335 mm cylinder diameter, 575 mm cylinder height, 60 mm overflow diameter, 50 mm underflow diameter, and $68^{\circ}$ cone angle. The inflow rate varied (400, 600, 800, and 1,000 mL $s^{-1}$) with 25%, 25%, 20%, and 10% of bypass ($R_f$), respectively. The maximum total separation efficiency (Et) and reduced separation efficiency (E't) for suspended solids from the effluent of the second settlement tank (before biofiltration) were 58.9% and 45.2%, respectively, at an inflow rate of 600 mL $s^{-1}$ and 25% of $R_f$. The maximum Et and E't for suspended solids from the water supply channel (after biofiltration) were 24.4% and 16%, respectively, at an inflow rate of 1,000 mL $s^{-1}$ and 10% of $R_f$. The maximum grade efficiency (Ei) was 51.6% for a 300 ${\mu}m$ particle size at an inflow rate of 600 mL $s^{-1}$ with 23% of $R_f$. The maximum reduced grade efficiency (E'i) was 37.6% for a 300 ${\mu}m$ particle size at an inflow rate of 1,000 mL $s^{-1}$ with 11% of $R_f$. The results indicate that the separation performance of the LPH for suspended solids removal was size selective and that maximum removal occurred at particle sizes ranging from 300 to 500 ${\mu}m$.

캡슬에 고정화된 흡착제에의 Berberine의 흡착에 관한 수학적 모델 (Mathematical Model for Adsorption of Berberine on Encapsulated Adsorbent)

  • A mathematical model using local thermodynamic equilibrium isotherms for adsorption in encapsulated adsorbent is proposed in order to optimize the design parameters in situ bioproduct separation process. The model accurately follows the experimental data on the adsorption of berberine, secondary metabolite produced in Thaictrum rugosum plant cell culture. The adsorption rate on encapsulated adsorbent is compared with that on alginate-entrapped adsorbent. The result shows that the higher loading capacity in encapsulated adsorbent is mainly due to the increase in the maximum solid phase concentration. Based on the adsorption rate and loading capacity, the encapsulated adsorbent would be more useful than the entrapped adsorbent when used in situ bioproduct separation process. Design parameters in situ bioproduct separation process, such as the size of the capsule, membrane thickness, the ratio of capsule volume to bulk volume, the ratio of single capsule volume to total capsule volume and the adsorbent content in the capsule, are evaluated by using the model. The ratio of single capsule volume to total capsule volume is the most effective parameter for adsorption of berberine on encapsulated adsorbent.

  • 돈분뇨에 함유된 질소.인의 부하저감과 액비살포면적 감소에 대하여 급속액상부숙기술 반응기(TAO system)과 28mesh, 200mesh의 막을 가진 고액분리기를 적용하여 연구한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 농가에서 발생하는 분뇨 $4.6m^3/day$에 함유된 질소와 인의 양은 22.5kg.N/day($4,893mg/{\ell}$), 7.32kg.P/day($1,592mg/{\ell}$)이었따. 2. 감량화 단계에서는 질소와 인이 각각 12.6kg.N/day($4,862mg/{\ell}$), 3.85kg.P/day$(1,397mg/{\ell}$)로 46.0%, 34.0% 감소하였다. 3. 고액분리단계에서는 질소와 인이 각각 12.0kg. N/day($5,000mg/{\ell}$), 2.2kg.P/day($929mg/{\ell}$)로 일일 발생량이 46.6%, 69.8% 감소하였다. 4. 질소시비량을 기준으로 처리 전.후의 액비 살포면적은 논의 경우, 74.7ha/y에서 39.0ha/y, 밭의 경우, 63.2ha/y에서 33.0ha/y로 감소하였다.

막오염현상이 중공사정밀여과막의 물투과특성에 미치는 영향 (Influences of Membrane Fouling on Water Permeability of Hollow Fiber Microfiltration Membrane)

  • The effects of membrane fouling on the water permeability were examined using the hollow fiber microfiltration (HMF)membrane. A membrane module with a pore size of 0.1 micron was submerged in the permeation tank and water bath. The applied pressure was 12.4 kPa for direct solid-liquid separation of activated sludge. As the concentration of MLSS(880~2180mg/l) of the feed solution increased, the decreasing rates of the water flux increased and the membrane was clogged more rapidly. The water flux through the membrane did not increase effectively even with the increase in the applied pressure(40.0~93.3kPa). When the membrane was cleaned with water, the recovery rate of water flux were larger for lower applied pressure. The results indicated that the process of direct solid-liquid separation using HMF membrane was effective at lower pressure.

Recovery and Refining Process of Gypsum from Waste Plaster Board

  • This study was conducted to obtain granular crystalline gypsum that can be used as raw material for Plaster boards or cements from waste Plaster board. Gypsum could be Preferentially disintegrated to gypsum needle in $10\mu\textrm{m}$ or less size by hydration after the dehydration of crushed waste Plaster board. The finer the gypsum needle, it is easier to remove coarse impurities and to recover the gypsum needle. The optimum conditions for obtain the finer gypsum size were dehydration rate of 75~85%, solid concentration at hydration of 10~15%, agitation speed of 250~400 rpm, crushing size before dehydration of 2 cm or less. Gypsum of 98.21% grade was recovered with 99.0% yield as the undersize of 325 mesh wet screening followed by the dehydration-hydration process performed at the conditions of dehydration rate of 80%, solid concentration at hydration of 15%, agitation speed of 300 rpm, crushing size before dehydration of 2 cm or less. After the recrystallization of recovered gypsum, Plate-like gypsum of $151\mu\textrm{m}$ size with 99.49% grade was obtained as the oversize of 270 mesh in a wet screening.
