  • We have applied front contact metallization of plated nickel and copper for high efficiency passivated emitter rear contact(PERC) solar cell. Ni is shown to be a suitable barrier to Cu diffusion as well as desirable contact metal to silicon. The plating technique is a preferred method for commercial solar cell fabrication because it is a room temperature process with high growth rates and good morphology. In this system, the electroless plated Ni is utilized as the contact to silicon and the plated Cu serves as the primary conductor layer instead of traditional solution that are based on Ti/Pd/Ag contact system. Experimental results are shown for over 20 % PERC cells with the Plated Ni/Cu contact system for good performance at low cost.

  • Novel organic dyes, JK-34, JK-35 and JK-36 containing bis-dimethylfluorenyl amino coumarin unit are designed and synthesized. Nanocrystalline TiO2 dye-sensitized solar cells were fabricated using these dyes. Under standard global AM 1.5 solar condition, the JK-34 sensitized cell gave a short circuit photocurrent density of 10.05 mA cm?2, open circuit voltage of 0.65 V, and a fill factor of 0.68, corresponding to an overall conversion efficiency η of 4.54%. We found that the power conversion efficiency was shown to be quite sensitive to the structural modifications of bridging thiophene moiety.

  • A solar cell is primary parts to produce electrical energy from the Sun. And, we can utilize those solar cells as a power generation system in home, factory, and so on. In order to make proper power, the solar cells are configured in series and parallel lay down. In condition of uniform illumination, the solar array will produce an enough power by photovoltaic effects from the solar cells. In case of non-uniform illumination on the solar cells, the power will be dramatically decreased compared to design. Fortunately, there were so many research outputs regarding the illumination effects on solar array. In this work, we tried to find out the non-uniform effects on unit CPV solar cell, because there were no research outputs for unit CPV solar cell considering illumination. The CPV solar cell was used in CPV system to make a power by the Sun. We chosen the triple junction solar cell of GaAsInP2Ge for simulation, which has a 30 % of conversion efficiency. By simulation, we obtained the output performance of CPV solar cells in condition of various illumination by using Hamming Window function. Its performance was degraded by 10 % to 50 % depending illumination conditions.

  • Low-cost, high efficiency solar cells are tremendous interests for the realization of a renewable and clean energy source. ZnTe based solar cells have a possibility of high efficiency with formation of an intermediated energy band structure by impurity doping. In this work, ZnO/ZnTe:Cr and ZnO/i-ZnTe structures were fabricated by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. A pulsed (10 Hz) Nd:YAG laser operating at a wavelength of 266 nm was used to produce a plasma plume from an ablated a ZnTe target, whose density of laser energy was 10 J/cm2. The base pressure of the chamber was kept at approximately $4{\times}10-7Torr$. ZnTe:Cr and i-ZnTe thin films with thickness of 210 nm were grown on p-Si substrate, respectively, and then ZnO thin films with thickness of 150 nm were grown on ZnTe:Cr layer under oxygen partial pressure of 3 mTorr. Growth temperature of all the films was set to $250^{\circ}C$. For fabricating ZnO/i-ZnTe and ZnO/ZnTe:Cr solar cells, indium metal and Ti/Au grid patterns were deposited on back and front side of the solar cells by using thermal evaporator, respectively. From the fabricated ZnO/ZnTe:Cr and ZnO/i-ZnTe solar cell, dark currents were measured by using Keithley 2600. Solar cell parameters were obtained under Air Mass 1.5 Global solar simulator with an irradiation intensity of 100 mW/cm2, and then the photoelectric conversion efficiency values of ZnO/ZnTe:Cr and ZnO/i-ZnTe solar cells were measured at 1.5 % and 0.3 %, respectively.

  • PV (photovoltaic) has becoming an important industry to invest due to its high robustness and require very little maintenance which goes a long time. Solar cell fabrication involves a few critical processes such as doping to make the N-type and P-type silicon, contact metallization, surface texturization, and anti-reflection coatings. Anti-reflection coating is a kind of surface passivation which ensures the stability, and efficiency of the solar cell. Thus, I will focus on the changes happen to the solar cell due to the reflectance and anti-reflection coating by PC1D. By using the PC1D (solar cell simulation program), I would analysis the effect of reflectance on the N-type cell. At last I will conclude the result regarding what I learned throughout this experiment.

  • Current characteristic curve of an illuminated solar cell was used to determine its reverse saturation current density ($J_0$), ideality factor (n) and resistances, by using numerical diode simulation. High efficiency amorphous silicon, heterojunction crystalline Si (HIT), plastic and organic-inorganic halide perovskite solar cell shows n=3.27 for a-Si and n=2.14 for improved HIT cell as high and low n respectively, while the perovskite and plastic cells show n=2.56 and 2.57 respectively. The $J_0$ of these cells remain within $7.1{\times}10^{-7}$ and $1.79{\times}10^{-8}A/cm^2$ for poorer HIT and improved perovskite solar cell respectively.

  • The behavior of ozone micro bubble cleaning system was investigated to evaluate the solution as a new method of solar cell wafer cleaning in comparison with former conventional RCA cleaning. We have developed the ozone dissolution system in the ozonated water for more efficient cleaning conditions. The optimized cleaning conditions for solar cell wafer process were 10 ppm of ozone concentration and 12 minutes in cleaning periods, respectively. We have confirmed the cleaning reliability and cell efficiencies after ozone micro bubble cleaning. Using this new cleaning technology, it was possible to obtain higher efficiency, higher productivity, and fast tact time for applying cleaning in the fields on bare ingot wafer, LED wafers as well as the solar cell wafer.

  • Cu(In,Ga)3Se5 (β-CIGS) has a band gap of 1.35 eV, which is an optimum value for high solar-energy conversion efficiency. The effects of Cu and Ga content on the cell performance were investigated previously. However, the effect of Se content on the cell performance is not well understood yet. In this work, β-CIGS films were fabricated by three-stage co-evaporation of elemental sources with various Se fluxes at the third stage instead of at all stages. The average composition of five samples was Cu1.05(In0.59,Ga0.41)3Sey, where the stoichiometric y value is 5.03 and the stoichiometric Se/metal (Se/M) ratio is 1.24. We varied the Se/metal ratio in a range from 1.18 to 1.28. We found that the best efficiency was achieved when the Se/M ratio was 1.24, which is exactly the stoichiometric value where the CIGS grains on the CIGS surface were tightly connected and faceted. With the optimum Se/M ratio, we were able to enhance the cell efficiency of a β-CIGS solar cell from 9.6% to 12.0% by employing a Na2S post deposition treatment. Our results indicate that Na2S post deposition treatment is very effective to enhance the cell efficiency to a level on par with that in α-CIGS cell.

  • In the present work, ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) have been dispersed alone in the same solvent of the active layer for improving performance parameters of the organic solar cells. Different concentrations of the ZnO NPs have been blended inside active layer of the solar cell based on poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT), which forms the hole-transport network, and [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM), which forms the electron-transport network. In the present investigations, the ZnO NPs may represent an efficient tool for improving light harvesting through light scattering inside active layer, electron mobility, and electron acceptance strength which tend to improve photocurrent and performance parameters of the investigated solar cell. The fill factor (FF) of the ZnO-doped solar cell increases nearly 14% compared to the non-doped solar cell when the doping is 50%. The present investigations show that ZnO NPs improve power conversion efficiency of the solar cell from 1.23% to 1.64% with increment around 25% that takes place after incorporation of 40% as a volume ratio of the ZnO NPs inside P3HT:PCBM active layer.
