The renewable energy is known as eco-friendly energy to reduce the use of fossil fuel and decrease the environmental pollution due to exhaust gas. Targets of solar collector in domestic are usually acquisitions of hot water and hot air. System of air-heating collector is one of the technologies for obtaining hot air in cases of especially heating room and drying agricultural product. The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of thermal flow such as relative pressure, velocity, outlet temperature and buoyancy effect in air-heating collector using solar heat. The flow field of air-heating collector was simulated using ANSYS-CFX program and the behaviour of hot air was evaluated with SST turbulence model. As the results, The streamline in air-heating collector showed several circular shapes in case of condition of buoyancy. Temperature difference in cross section of outlet of air-heating collector did not almost show in cases of buoyancy and small inlet velocity. Furthermore merit of air-heating collector was not observed in cases of inlet velocities. Even though it was useful to select condition of buoyancy for obtaining high temperature, however, it was confirmed that the trade off between high temperature of room and rapid injection of hot air to room could be needed through this numerical analysis.
The heat from PV modules should be removed for better electrical performance, and can be converted into useful thermal energy. A photovoltaic-thermal(PVT) module is a combination of PV module with a solar thermal collector which forms one device that produce thermal energy as well as electricity. In many studies various water type PVT collectors have been proposed in effort to increase their electrical and thermal efficiency. The aim of this study is to evaluate the heating performance of heating system combined with PVT collectors that on integrated building roof. For this study, the BIPVT system of 1.5kWp was installed at the experimental house, and it was incorporated with its heating system. From the experimental results, the solar fraction of the heating system with BIPVT was 15%. It was also found that was analyzed that the heating energy for the house can be reduced by 47%, as the heat gained from BIPVT system pre-heated the water used for heating system.

A small domestic solar water heating system in thermosyphonic flow was tested in Seoul. The system consisted of four flat plate aluminium roll bond type collectors of total effective area $3.28m^2$ and a $280{\iota}$ storage tank. It was tilted $52^{\circ}$ relative to the horizon. And the collector plate, collector tube and storage tank were equiped with 14 thermocouples. As the results, the following facts were found; 1) To provide water at $55^{\circ}C$ for a family of four in Seoul, a collector area of $3-4m^2$ and a storage capacity of $180{\iota}- 200{\iota}$ are suggested. And this system can supply hot water at above $45^{\circ}C$ day about. 2) In the late afternoon hours, it might be advantageous to stop the flow in the system as heat losses to the environment increase unduly. 3) Without any hot water consumption throughout the day, water temperature distributions inside the storage tank was found almost linear. This indicates essentially no mixing inside the storage tank. 4) In case of a small domestic solar water heating system, it is better to employ a single transparent cover rather than double one.

It has been recognized that solar water heating systems are economically inferior to conventional gas water-heaters and boilers using light oil as fuel in spite of having practical possibilities among other alternative energy facilities in Korea. The solar system, however, should be revaluated due to the sharp rise of oil prices recently. We have calculated the energy amount and cost through a series of research projects for the system by experiment and simulation, which lead to analyzing reliable life cycle costs. For the economic analysis, the gas water-heater and light oil boiler were taken as base cases while the solar systems implemented with these facilities were compared as alternatives. As a result, the solar system using the light oil as an auxiliary fuel surpassed the light oil boiler in economics. And a $50\%$ government subsidy for the initial cost is needed to maintain competitiveness with the gas hot-water heater. With this support, the simple payback period of the system can approach 12.8 years under $20\%$ additional curtailment of expenditure.
There are the stirring test and drain test in the daily performance test to determine the thermal performance of a domestic solar hot water system. The drain test is a test that measures the discharge heating rate while drain the hot water from the top of the storage tank and supply the city water to the bottom of the tank. From the perspective of the user, this drain test is more effective than the stirring test. In this study, the thermal performance were compared through the drain test for a passive type and an active type domestic solar hot water systems consisting of the same storage tank and collectors. At this point, a passive type was used the horizontal storage tanks, and an active type was used vertical storage tank. In the drain test, when the hot water drained up to the reference hot water temperature, an active type which have vertical storage tank represents excellent daily performance than a passive type which have horizontal storage tank regardless of weather conditions. The reason for this is because the vertical storage tank is advantageous to thermal stratification in the tank. After the drain test, the residual heat for the horizontal storage tank was much more than the vertical storage tank, but in the next day the amount of discharged heat were less than the those of vertical storage tank neither. Thus, the solar water heating system which have horizontal storage tank should be adopted preheating control method rather than separate using control method when connected with auxiliary heat source device.

In this study, an analysis was performed on the performance of the solar water heating system with geo-thermal heat pump for a detached house. This system has a flat plate solar collector ($8\;m^2$) and a 3 RT heat pump. The heat pump acts as an auxiliary heater of the solar water heating system. These systems were installed at four individual houses with the same area of $100\;m^2$. The monitoring results for one year are as follows. (1) The average daily operating time of the solar system appeared to be 313 minutes in spring (intermediate season), and 135 minutes and 76 minutes in winter and summer respectively. The reason for the short operating time in summer is the high storage temperature due to low water heating load. The high storage temperature is caused by a decrease in collecting efficiency as well as by overheating. (2) The geothermal heat pump as an auxiliary heater mainly operates on days of poor insolation during the winter season. (3) Despite controlling for total house area, hot water consumption varies greatly according to the number of people in the family, hot water usage habits, etc. (4) The yearly solar fraction was 69.8 to 91.5 percent, which exceeds the maximum value of 80% as recommended by ASHRAE. So the solar collector area of $8\;m^2$ appeared to be somewhat greater for the house with an area of $100\;m^2$. (5) The observed annual efficiency of solar systems was relatively low at 13.5 to 23.6%, which was analyzed to be due to the decrease in thermal efficiency and the overheating caused by a high solar fraction.
In this paper, performances of solar hot water supply systems are parametrically analyzed with the variations of solar collector area, slope of collector and volume of storage. All simulations are conducted by using TRNSYS computer program. Average solar fractions, collector efficiencies and temperatures of storage are investigated monthly as well as annually. For system analysis, the maximum value of monthly average solar fractions has a limitation of 90 percent. As a result, the designed solar thermal system with $6m^2$ collector area, $50^{\circ}$ slope and $0.36m^2$ storage volume could provide almost an annual average solar fraction of 72 percent. By increasing the storage volume to $0.42m^2$, the annual solar fraction of system increases up to 73 percent.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the field Operation Characteristics of a sea water heat source cascade heat pump system and system applicable to Building. Cascade heat pump system is composed R410A compressor, R134a compressor, EEV, cascade heat exchanger, Plate heat exchanger etc. Building area is $890m^2$ and has five floors above ground. R410A is used for a low-stage working fluid while R134a is for a high-stage. The system could runs at dual mode. One is mode of general R410A refrigeration cycle in summer and the other is cascade cycle. In order to gain a high temperature supply water in winter season, the system is designed to perform a cascade cycle. The filed test results show that the sea water heat source heat pump system exhibits a COP of about 5.5 in cooling mode along with a heating COP of about 4.0 in 1-stage heating mode. Cascade 2-stage heat pump system is enough to supply $60^{\circ}C$ water and heating COP is about 3.0
The goal of this study is to measure and compare the performance of solar heat pump for room and hot water heating. To accomplish the goal, solar heat pump with alumium roll bond type evaporator and indoor heat exchanger(condenser) was built and fully instrumented with thermocouples and pressure transducers etc. The test results showed that the COP(coefficient of performance) of HFC-134a($CF_3CH_2F$) were higher than those of CFC-12($CF_2Cl_2$). One "stratospherically safe" new refrigerant is 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane(HFC-134a), which is thermodynamically similar to CFC-12 and considered to be a potential direct replacement for CFC-12 in air-conditioning and refrigeration applications. The solar heat pump system for room heating was designed to show the best efficiency that the room temperature make $18{\sim}20^{\circ}C$ and $23{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ in the southern part of South Korea during November, December, and January.
