The attitude information of spacecraft can be obtained by the sensors attached to it using a star tracker, three-axis magnetometer, three-axis gyroscope, and a global positioning signal receiver. By using these sensors, the spacecraft can be maneuvered by actuators that generate torques. In particular, electromagnetic-torque bars can be used for attitude control and as a momentum-canceling instrument. The spacecraft momentum can be created by the current through the electrical circuits and coils. Thus, the current around the electromagnetic-torque bars is a critical factor for precisely controlling the spacecraft. In connection with these concerns, a solar-cell array can be considered to prevent generation of a magnetic dipole moment because the solar-cell array can introduce a large amount of current through the electrical wires. The maximum value of a magnetic dipole moment that cannot affect precise control is $0.25A{\cdot}m^2$, which takes into account the current that flows through the reaction-wheel assembly and the magnetic-torque current. In this study, we designed a 300-W solar cell array and presented an optimal wire-routing method to minimize the magnetic dipole moment for space applications. We verified our proposed method by simulation.
The light gets darker from center to edge of the light source. Therefore, we can find the center of the sun using shading histogram. Moreover, we can track the exact position of the sun with the shading histogram. In this paper, we propose a new technique using image-processing of digital camera, in order to locate the position of the sun.
This paper presents an improved orientation strategy for energy-efficiency in photovoltaic (PV) panels. Conventionally, PV panels are tilted with the site's latitude angle or the difference between the latitude angle and the solar declination angle. A monthly-based orientation strategy has been proposed and analyzed in this study. The proposed strategy implies that the PV panels are tilted with the monthly-based angle that achieves the maximum incident radiation. Furthermore, the impact of using the proposed orientation strategy and three conventional strategies on the produced power and on the PV system design features has been investigated in detail. A Japanese city (Fukuoka) and an Egyptian city (Al-Kharijah) have been considered as locations for the PV power system installation. The results showed that the proposed strategy achieved an increase in the power produced from the PV power systems at the two different sites, and consequently the required solar cells area can be saved. Therefore, the cost of the PV power system components can be reduced including the solar cells area and the land area.
This paper proposes a novel control strategy of a PV tracking system considering the shadow influence. If distance of between PV arrays is not enough, shadow can be occurred to PV module. In PV system, if shadow is occurred to PV modules then PV modules operates reverses bias, and will eventually cause hot-spot and loss. To reduce loss by shadow influence, this paper proposes shadow compensation algorithm using distance between arrays and shadow length of array. The distance between arrays is calculated by using azimuth of solar, and length of array shadow is calculated using by altitude of solar. The shadow compensation algorithm proposed in this paper compares distance between arrays and length of array shadow. When the shadow length is longer than the distance between arrays, the algorithm adjusts altitude of array to avoid the shadow effects. The control algorithm proposed in this paper proves validity through compared with conventional algorithm and proposes experiment result.

This paper presents the Performance of PV(Photovoltaic) system. the design of MPPT and the battery characteristic. The output power of PV depends on the environmental factors such as insolation and cell temperature. It is proposed that the MPPT is based on an simple power control algorithm. Furthermore the converter has to maintain the optimum duty ratio. A switching strategy of converter for battery may Protect against excessive discharge and overcharge. This paper includes discussion on system reliability power quality and effects of the randomness of the wind and the solar radiation on system design.
A novel decision reference based method for the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of PV arrays is presented in this paper. The proposed decision reference was derived from a simplified solar cell model. This method solves the problems of conventional MPPT algorithms, such as oscillation of the operating point at the steady state and confusion under rapidly changing insolation. It is shown by simulation and experimental results that the method properly tracks a rapidly changing insolation profile. The signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the new decision reference is also higher than those of conventional P&O and INC methods. An updating subroutine was included in the proposed MPPT algorithm to compensate for temperature and aging effects.
Techniques for mismatch loss minimization to increase the PV system efficiency are under development recently. In this paper, a method to make diagnosis of PV module mismatch is presented, which uses a concept of operating point factor. The method is based on the fact that the ratio of the incremental conductance of a PV module to instantaneous conductance is 1 when the module is operating at its maximum power point. The variations of module voltage and current are taking place by the maximum power point tracker in the power conditioning units of PV system. The effectiveness of the method is verified through an application to a real PV system.
The solar cell should be operated at the maximum power point every instant. Because this maximum power point is fluctuating due to the change in the insolation and temperature. In this paper, we propose a new maximum power' point tracker by using the microprocessor. The proposed step-down chopper system tracks always the maximum power point, regardless of the change in the insolation, temperature and load.
Generally, conventional solar tracking systems employ irradiance sensors to track a sun position, which enables the system to generate maximum solar energy. The usage of irradiance sensors increases system costs and deteriorates the performance of systems from sensor malfunctions. In this paper, a new solar tracking system without irradiance sensors has been proposed in which the controller capable of controlling and monitoring remotely is based on Artik platform. The proposed system tracks the sun position by comparing the amount of currents from several solar panels, resulting in removing irradiance sensors. In order to verify the performance of the proposed solar tracking method, the 12[V]-20[W] prototype system is built and implemented. Since the proposed system has remote monitoring functions through the employment of Artik as the IoT platform, more advantages in installation, maintenance and expanded functionality can be obtained compared to the conventional solar tracking system.
