In order to perform photovoltaic (PV) operation and management (O&M) efficiently, individual PV module monitoring is becoming more important. In this research, we developed wireless IoT sensor which can monitor individual photovoltaic modules. This IoT sensor can detect the output voltage, current and module temperature of individual modules and provide monitored data by wireless communication. Measured voltage error was 1.23%, and it shows 16.6 dBM, 0.42sec and 7.1 mA for voltage, transmittance output, response time and mean power consumption, respectively. IoT sensors were demonstrated in the test field with real climate environment condition and each of 5 sensors showed precise results of voltage, current and temperature. Also, sensors were compared with commercial power-optimizers and showed result difference within 5%.
PSS(Pyramidal type 2-axes Analog Sun Sensor) which will be used for KAISTSAT-4 is designed to be small, light, low in power consumptions, and adequate for small satellite attitude sensor. The PSS for the KAISTSAT-4 consists of the pyramidal structure, solar cells and amplifier. The pyramidal structure is suitable for the 2-axes sensing, Solar cells are made up of a rectangular shape of crystal silicon. The PSS measures the angle of incident light and initial satellite attitude measurement, and provides an alarm for the sunlight-sensitive payloads. This paper explains the PSS structure and the characteristic test result about the PSS with $\pm$$50^{\circ}$in FOV, less than $\pm$$3^{\circ}$in accuracy.
COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) is a geostationary satellite and has been developing by KARI for communication, ocean observation and meteorological observation. Conventional thermal control design, using MLI (Multi Layer Insulation), OSR (Optical Solar Reflector), heater and heat pipe, is utilized. Ka-band components are installed on South wall, while other equipment for sensors are installed on the opposite side, North wall. High dissipating communication units are located on external (surface) heat pipe and are covered by internal insulation blankets to decouple them from the rest of the satellite. External satellite walls are covered by MLI or OSR for insulation from space and for rejection internal heat to space. The ocean and meteorological sensors are installed on optical benches on the top floor to decouple thermally from the satellite. Single solar array wing is adopted in order to secure clear field of view of radiant cooler of IR meteorological sensor. This paper presents principles of thermal control design for the COMS.
In this paper. a prototype of a mobile Sun tracking system is proposed. The proposed system uses 2-axis tilt sensor and 3-axis magnetic sensor to measure the orientation and the posture of the system according to the horizontal system of coordinates, which are used to compensate the slope effects. Then through astronomical calculation using the time and position information obtained by GPS sensor the azimuth and altitude of the Sun from that location is calculated. The position of the Sun is converted to that of the mobile Sun tracking system coordinates and used to control A-axis and C-axis of the system.
Active control of solar panels with honeycomb core and carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) facesheets for smart structures using piezoelectric patch sensor and actuator to reduce the amplitude of vibration is a lack of the previous study and it is the novelty of this research. Of active control elements are piezoelectric patches which act as sensors and actuators in many systems. Their low power consumption is worth mentioning. Thus, deriving a simple and efficient model of piezoelectric patch's elastic, electrical, and elastoelectric properties would be of much significance. In the present study, first, to reduce vibrations in composite plates reinforced by carbon nanotubes, motion equations were obtained by the extended rule of mixture. Second, to simulate the equations of the system, up to 36 mode shape vectors were considered so that the stress strain behavior of the panel and extent of displacement are thoroughly evaluated. Then, to have a more acceptable analysis, the effects of external disturbances (Aerodynamic forces) and lumped mass are investigated on the stability of the system. Finally, elastoelectric effects are examined in piezoelectric patches. The results of the present research can be used for micro-vibration suppression in satellites such as solar panels, space telescopes, and interferometers and also to optimize active control panel for various applications.
In this paper, we newly introduce a wireless identification system using a solar cell and RF transceivers. The reader sends interrogating signal to a transponder using LED visible light, and the transponder responds to the reader using RF signal. The transponder consists of a solar cell, an amplifier, a microprocessor, and an RF transmitter. The solar cell receives the visible light from the reader and generates current to supply electric power to the other devices in the transponder. At the same time, the solar cell detects interrogating signal in the reader light. The microprocessor senses the interrogating signal and generates a responding signal. The RF transmitter radiates the responding signal to the reader. The transponder is a passive circuit because it operates without external power. In experiments, the maximum read distance between a reader and a transponder was about 1.6 meter.
Using six SMD(surface mount device) type AlGaAs/GaAs single junction solar cells connected in series, a power source was fabricated for a white GaN LED. The electrical properties of the power source was measured and analyzed under one sun (100mW/$cm^2$) and various indoor light (300 - 900 lux) conditions. Under 600 lux indoor light condition, output power was 17.06 ${\mu}W$ and it was 30.75 ${\mu}W$ under 900 lux indoor light condition. Using the fabricated solar cell power supply, we have turned on the white GaN LED. It was worked well under 15 ${\mu}W$(at 480 lux) power supplied from solar cell array. This kind of solar cell power supply can be used as a power source for ubiquitous sensor network (USN).
