In this study, we conducted verification of key influencing factors during cone penetration testing using the developed Mini Cone Penetration Tester (Mini-CPT), and compared the experimental results with empirical formulas to validate the equipment. The Mini-CPT was designed to measure cone penetration resistance through a Strain Gauge, and the resistance values were calibrated using a Load Cell. Moreover, the influencing factors were verified using a model ground constituted in a soil box. The primary influencing factors examined were the boundary effect of the soil box, the distance between cone penetration points, and the cone penetration speed. For the verification of these factors, the experiment was conducted with the model ground having a relative density of 63.76% in the soil box. It was observed that the sidewall effect was considerably significant, and the cone penetration resistance measured at subsequent penetration points was higher due to the influence between penetration points. However, within the speed range considered, the effect of penetration speed was almost negligible. The measured cone penetration resistance was compared with predicted values obtained from literature research, and the results were found to be similar. It is anticipated that using the developed Mini-CPT for constructing model grounds in the laboratory will lead to more accurate geotechnical property data.
This study was performed to evaluate the heating characteristics of soils for the application of electrical resistance heating process combined with soil vapor extraction. Laboratory tests were conducted to find out optimum heating conditions by the adjustment of electrical supply and electrode. Results show that fine soil particles are more efficient for electrical heating. As water content of soil increases, more efficient electrical heating is observed. However, as the soil is saturated with water above the soil porosity, decrease in the heating efficiency is observed. The higher the voltage, is and the shorter the distance between the electrodes is, the better the heating efficiency is. The soil contaminated by fuel is also more efficient than non-contaminated soil in electrical resistance heating. From the relationship between the intial electrical current and the conductivity obtained in this study, soil temperature by electrical heating can be estimated.

Until now, study on the hydraulic resistance characteristics of the ground at the river and the ocean current has been focused on the behavior under uni-directional flow without the direction change of flow. However, recent research result shows that scour rate which were measured under the bi-directional flow was much higher than those measured under uni-directional flow for both fine grained and coarse soil. Since the direction of inflow and return flow at the shore, where the structure will be constructed, is not always $180^{\circ}$, effect of the incidence angle on the hydraulic resistance capacity of the ground should be examined. Using the improved EFA which can consider the direction change of flow, hydraulic resistance capacities of the artificially composed clayey fine grained soil and clayey sandy soil under $0^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $135^{\circ}$, $180^{\circ}$ flow angle of incidence were assessed. Test result shows that hydraulic resistance capacity decreases and scour rate increase with the increase of the incidence angle between inflow and return flow. For the low consolidation pressure condition, hydraulic resistance capacity of the fine grained soil decreases rapidly. While the hydraulic resistance capacity of the coarse grained soil decreases more rapidly than fine grained soil under high consolidation pressure. Eventually since the larger the incidence angle between inflow and return flow, the larger the scour rate. Hydraulic resistance capacity under bi-directional flow($0^{\circ}{\longleftrightarrow}180^{\circ}$) should be examined for the design purpose.

Four hundred and thirteen oxytetracycline-resistant bacteria were recovered from six freshwater giant prawn farms with a history of oxytetracycline use. Most oxytetracycline-resistant isolates were Gram-negative bacteria. Six groups of oxytetracycline-resistant bacteria were classified using cluster analysis based on a comparison of levels of oxytetracycline resistance. Complex fingerprint patterns were obtained for 71 isolates studied. In general, the band patterns of isolates from different ponds were very similar, and the data indicated that the isolates were closely related. The exploration for cross-resistance found that most of the 71 oxytetracycline-resistant isolates were also resistant to tetracycline and chlortetracycline, but had a relatively low resistance to doxycycline. Many isolates showed higher chlortetracycline resistance than oxytetracycline resistance. Additionally, the oxytetracycline-resistant isolates were examined for the presence of tetracycline resistance (tet) genes. Fifty percent of the isolates carried one of the 14 known tet genes examined. The most common determinants were TetA and TetD. However, TetB, TetC, TetE, TetK, TetL, and TetM were also found with various frequencies.
Liquefaction phenomenon refers to a phenomenon in which excess pore water pressure occurs when a dynamic load such as an earthquake is rapidly applied to a loose sandy soil ground where the ground is saturated, and the ground loses effective stress and becomes liquid. The laboratory repetition test for liquefaction evaluation can be performed through a repeated triaxial compression test and a repeated shear test. In this regard, this study attempted to evaluate the effects of the relative density of sand on the liquefaction resistance strength according to particle size distribution using repeated triaxial compression tests, and additional experimental verification using numerical analysis was conducted to overcome the limitations of experimental equipment. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the liquefaction resistance strength increased as the relative density increased regardless of the classification of soil, and the liquefaction resistance strength of the SP sample close to SW was quite high. As a result of numerical analysis, it was confirmed that the liquefaction resistance strength increased as the confining pressure increased under the same relative density, and the liquefaction resistance strength did not decrease below a certain limit even though the confining pressure was significantly reduced at a relatively low relative density. This is judged to be due to a change in confining pressure according to the depth of the ground. As a result of analyzing the liquefaction resistance strength according to the frequency range, it was confirmed that there was no significant difference from the laboratory experiment results in the basic range of 0.1 to 1.0 Hz.
It is difficult to accurately measure the ground resistance because it varies widely not only with the type of soil but also with the ground parameters; the moisture, the temperature the buried depth of electrodes, and the ground augmentation material and so on. Therefore, in this paper we analyzed the relation between the parameters and the resistance of ground in order to obtain a method of maintaining ground resistance stable. In experiments, the variation coefficients of ground resistance were calculated by the monthly measured data. The ground resistance decreases as the length of the ground rod increases. The variation between the ground resistance and the moisture rate of soil was low in case of using the ground augmentation material. Without the ground augmentation material, the ground resistance decreases as the moisture rate of soil increases. The ground resistance becomes small when the earth temperature becomes low.
Investigation of the effective soil thermal conductivity($k$) is the first step in designing the ground loop heat exchanger(borehole) of a geothermal heat pump system. Another important factor is the borehole thermal resistance($R_b$). Thermal response tests offer a good method to determine the ground thermal properties for the total heat transport in the ground. The first step is measured for initial soil temperature. This is done by supplying a only pump power into a borehole heat exchanger. They need to supply into water unload heat power more than 30 minutes. In this study, the initial soil temperature was found to analysis $14.1{\sim}16.0^{\circ}C$,the ratio was 68.7% represented. In this case of $k$, was 2.1~3.0 $W/m{\cdot}k$, $R_b$ was 0.11~0.20 $m{\cdot}K/W$. In this work, it is also shown that the distribution of a soil thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance were on the influence of initial soil temperature. And soil thermal conductivity was related with factors of equation by linear least square method, borehole thermal resistance was on the influence of composite factors.
Trees enhance slope stability against down slope mass movement through the removal of soil water by transpiration and by the mechanical reinforcement of their roots. To assess the magnitude of this reinforcement on natural slope stability, direct shear tests were made on dry sand reinforced with different array types of roots. Pinus koraiensis was used as root specimens. The peak shear resistance at each normal stress level was measured on the rooted and unrooted soil specimens. Increased soil resistance(${\Delta}S$) by roots was calculated using parameters like internal friction angle and cohesion of tested soil and also evaluated the effects of root array in tested soil. As results, we find that shear resistance increased in tested soil shear box as diameters and arrayed numbers of root specimen increased and cross root array in tested soil had a much greater reinforcing effect than other root arrays. Comparison of traditional root-soil model with experiments showed that simulated reinforce strength by the model was different with those obtained by the experiment due to its linearity.
This study was carried out to find a method which can be used to measure the soil moisture content of the soil bin exactly and quickly. And gypsum block is used as an instrument in measuring soil moisture content in the field of green house farming, etc.. However the characteristics of gypsum block, or the guide line of making gypsum block is not well introduced in Korea. So the information about gypsum block such as the density of gypsum, type of electrode, dimension of electrode, distance between electrodes, density of surrounding soil were included in this study and their effects on the relationship between soil moisture content and electrical resistance were investigated. The results of this study are as follows; 1. The grid type electrode was quicker in accessing the equilibrium condition and showed more sensitive response to the change of soil moisture content than the plate type electrode. 2. The longer the distance between the electrodes, the larger the electrical resistance, and the distance of 3 to 5 mm was recommended. 3. The larger the width of the electrode, the smaller the electrical resistance. However, there was no significance between the levels designed in this study. Considering the size of the gypsum block itself, the adaptible range of width may be 4 to 8 mm. 4. The higher the density of gypsum, the smaller the electrical resistance. And the block of lower density was broken down in the soil of higy moisture content. The optimum ratio of gypsum to water was 7:5. 5. The measuring system used in this study allowed simultaneous, multi-data acquisition. So this system using A/D converter can be applied to the measurement of soil moisture content of soil bin.
