  • The purpose of this study was to compare the chemical properties of white soil and refined clay sediment, which are produced early in the refining process. The characteristics of the white wares made at the kiln site in Goseong-ri, Chuncheon were also examined. Three groups of materials were examined: white wares excavated from the white wares kiln, raw material from white soil collected from the surface, and a refined clay sediment group. There were also three analysis methods, which were a main components analysis, a trace components analysis, and a mineral analysis. The main components analysis found that the white wares clay was in the RO24.04~4.28 and the RO + R2O 0.30~0.31 mole areas, which were similar to the results for the refined clay sediment. However, the refining process used to produce better quality white wares meant that the large differences in the early white soil raw material appeared in the refined sediment. The mineral phase analysis showed that the crystals detected in the early white soil raw materials and refined clay sediment were almost identical. However, quartz and mullite mineral phases, which can occur above a certain temperature, were detected in the excavated white wares clay. Rare earth elements that were not affected by the pottery making process and the weathering of clay materials were found to have the same origin in all three groups.

  • This study compared Pottery, Hwaecheongware, Buncheongware and Whiteware pieces excavated in Hakbong-ri of Chungnam analytically by observing their refined structures and estimating their firing temperature. As a result, base soil components of the specimens were mostly similar to those of typical Buncheongware, but the content of the fluxing agent was rather high, and it seemed that the Whiteware had been made with fairly different components from those of other sherds. Although the glaze showed less difference than base soil in general, the content of the glaze changed according to the decorating methods of Buncheongware. Based on the SEM-EDS analysis, it was found that the base soil components of the ceramics seemingly rather different were actually different and the analysis on the fine crystals of the base soil, the anorthite in the glaze and crystals in the ironing part, and the components and contents of white earth showed there were some noticeable points in the process of making each of the sherds. In the refiring experiment to estimate the firing temperature, mostly similar results were gained as $1150^{\circ}C$ to $1200^{\circ}C$ for pottery, $1100^{\circ}C$ to $1150^{\circ}C$ for Hwaecheongware, and $1100^{\circ}C$ to $1200^{\circ}C$ for iron-brown Buncheongware however, the results imply good quality Whiteware was burnt at above $1300^{\circ}C$ while bad quality Whiteware was burnt at a temperature far lower than that. Thus, there was clear difference between Whiteware sherds and other kinds of sherds.

  • The total suspended particles (TSP) collected at the 1100 site of Mt. Halla have shown higher compositions for the anthropogenic components followed by marine and soil originated ones. The concentrations of the soil originated nss-$Ca^{2+}$, Al, Fe, Ca components have been increased in spring, and the anthropogenic $NH{_4}^+$, $K^+$, nss-$SO{_4}^{2-}$ components showed high concentrations in June. Meanwhile, the concentration of $NO{_3}^-$ as same as nss-$Ca^{2+}$ was higher in spring. It's likely due to the influence of its long-range transport from China. Compared to the non-Asian Dust periods, the concentrations of nss-$Ca^{2+}$, Al, Ca, and Fe have been increased 7.2~9.5 times in Asian Dust storm periods, and those of nss-$SO{_4}^{2-}$ and $NO{_3}^-$ were 1.3 and 3.8 times, respectively. From the factor analysis, the TSP compositions were influenced mainly by anthropogenic emission sources, followed by oceanic and soil sources. The backward trajectory analysis has shown that the concentrations of the anthropogenic and soil components were increased when the air parcels had been moved into Jeju island via China in a northwesterly wind.

  • In this paper, new simple model is developed to evaluate the variation of the magnitude and the phase contrast of force components with the development of excess pore pressure in backfill soil. Also, Newmark sliding block analysis is performed inputting the calculated total force from new model. The applicability of new simple model and Newmark sliding block model is verified from the analyses of 1g shaking table test results.

  • The development of models for agriculture systems, especially for crop production, has supported the prediction of crop yields under various environmental change scenarios and the selection of better crop species or cultivar. Crop models could be used as tools for supporting reasonable nutrient management approaches for agricultural land. This paper outlines the simplified structure of main crop models (crop growth model, crop-soil model, and crop-soil-environment model) frequently used in agricultural systems and shows diverse application of their simulated results. Crop growth models such as LINTUL, SUCROS, could provide simulated data for daily growth, potential production, and photosynthesis assimilate partitioning to various organs with different physiological stages, and for evaluating crop nutrient demand. Crop-Soil models (DSSAT, APSIM, WOFOST, QUEFTS) simulate growth, development, and yields of crops; soil processes describing nutrient uptake from root zone; and soil nutrient supply capability, e.g., mineralization/decomposition of soil organic matter. The crop model built for the DSSAT family software has limitations in spatial variability due to its simulation mechanism based on a single homogeneous field unit. To introduce well-performing crop models, the potential applications for crop-soil-environment models such as DSSAT, APSIM, or even a newly designed model, should first be compared. The parameterization of various crops under different cultivation conditions like those of intensive farming systems common in Korea, shortened crop growth period, should be considered as well as various resource inputs.

  • Accumulation of soil chemical components in plastic-house is serious problem in Korea. This study was carried out to solve the problem by comparing the contents of soil chemical properties in plastic-house with that of upland field. The content of organic matter and available $P_2O_5($ in plastic-house soil were higher than that of upland field. Particularly, organic matter content in plastic-house soil (43g/kg) was 1.7times higher than that of upland soil (26g/kg), and content of available $P_2O_5($ (893mg/kg) in plastic-house: soil was 4.9 times higher than that of upland soil(183mg/kg). The content of exchangeable K, Ca and Mg in plastic-house soil were 0.5, 6.8 and 1.6cmol/kg and that of upland field soil were 0.5, 2.3 and 2.5cmol/kg, respectively.

  • To get the basic information about ginseng seedling production, yield of ginseng seedling and soil physico-chemical components of Ban-Yang-Jik (semimodified soil) nursery in 29 farmer's field were investigated. The number of available seedling per Kan (Kan means $180{\times}90cm$ area) is $362{\pm}226$. Root weight per seedling was negatively correlated with ammount of fine and extremely fine sand. Positive correlations were shown between pH and OM, K, Ca and Mg, and also between EC and Ca, Mg and ammonium and nitrate nitrogen in soil of nursery. There were significant linear relations between root weight and OM, K, Ca and Mg in soil of nursery. On the other hand, quadratic relation was held between the root weight and $P_2O_5$, but the root weight has no correlation with nitrogen. The nitrogen contents of soil might not influence on the growth of ginseng seedling as greatly as those of $P_2O_5$, K and Ca. The contents of $P_2O_5$, K and Ca in root were increased with increase of the contents of $P_2O_5$, K and Ca in soil of nusery, respectively. It showed the linear correlation between the root weight and $P_2O_5$ and Ca, otherwise quadratic correlation between the root weight and K in root.

  • Generally, ready-mixed concrete(RMC) gets hardened by time, so the remaining concrete in the drum should be cleaned. But if the RMC waste water generated from this is discharged to soil without any treatment, the strong alkaline elements and heavy metals affect water and ecosystem pollution. Although about 10 to 15% of water used for cleaning in the RMC factory is discharged to soil or river, the concrete report of this affecting soil pollution has not been sufficient. Hence, in this study it was analyzed the extraction of cleaning water from RMC factories all over the country and heavy metal and pH components remaining in soil when this is penetrated to various soils having water permeability. The specimens used for the experiment are weathering soil and soils having different particle size, and it is made to be penetrated to those for 24 hours while fixed thickness of the layer is maintained. Cleaning water is divided into that before deposition treatment(sludge water) and that after deposition treatment(upper water) to be penetrated into soil, and according to the result of penetrating sludge water to soil, Cu and Mn, Fe, and Zn were found to be remained over 23 to 90%. However, it is analyzed that in upper water having deposition treatment, Cu and Mn remain as 60% or more only in weathering soil.
