  • In this paper, a new architecture of operating software associated with the component-based method is proposed. The proposed architecture comprises 문 execution module and a decision-making module. In order to make effective development and maintenance, the execution module is divided into three components. The components are referred to as Symbol, Gateway, and Control, respectively: The symbol component is for the GUI environments and the standard interfaces; the gateway component is for the network communication and the structure of asynchronous processes; the control component is for the asynchronous processing and machine setting or operations. In order to verify the proposed architecture, and off-line version of operating software is made, and its steps are as follows; I) Make virtual execution modules for the manufacturing devices such as dual-arm robot, handling robot, CNC, and sensor; ii) Make decision-making module; iii) Integrate the modules and GUI using a well-known development tools such as Microsofts Visual Basic; iv) Execute the overall operating software to validate the proposed architecture. The proposed software architecture in this paper has the advantages such as independent development of each module, easy development of network communication, and distributed processing of resources, and so on.

  • A thermal design software is developed for the heat recovery steam generator(HRSG) of combined cogeneration systems. The heat transfer is calculated by using the element method to account for the varying thermal properties across the heat transfer elements. The circulation balance is computed for the evaporator to accurately estimate the steam generation rate and to check the proper circulation of the boiler water through the tubes. The software developed can be used to simulate HRSG systems with various combinations of auxiliary burner, wall superheater, superheater, reheater, evaporator, and economizer. Systems with several different combinations of the system components are successfully tested. And it is concluded that the developed software can be used for the design of heat recovery steam generators with various combinations of heat transfer components.

  • PICARD (Port-Interface Component Architecture for Real-time system Design) is a software architecture and environment, which is aimed to reduce development time and cost of real-time, control system. With PICARD, a control engineer can construct a control system software by assembling pre-built software components us ing interact ive graphical development environment. PICARD consists of PVM(Picard Virtual Machine) , a component library, and PICE(PIcard Configuration Editor). PVM is a real-time engine of the PICARD system which runs control tasks on a real-time operating system. The component library is composed of components which are called task blocks. PICE is a visual editor which can configure control tasks by creating data-flow diagrams of task blocks or Ladder diagrams for sequential logics. For the communication between PVM on a target system and PICE on a host computer, a simple protocol and tools for stub generation was dove]oped because RPC or CORBA is difficult to be applied for the embedded system. New features such as a byte-code based run time system and a simple and easy MMI builder are also introduced.

  • For a multiprocessor System-on-Chip (MPSoC) to achieve high performance via parallelism, we must consider how to partition a given application into different components and map the components onto multiple processors. In this paper, we propose a software pipeline-based partitioning method with cyclic dependent task management and communication optimization. During task partitioning, simultaneously considering computation load balance and communication optimization can cause interference, which leads to performance loss. To address this issue, we formulate their constraints and apply an integer linear programming approach to find an optimal partitioning result - one that requires a trade-off between these two factors. Experimental results on a reconfigurable MPSoC platform demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, with 20% to 40% performance improvements compared to a traditional software pipeline-based partitioning method.

  • Components are stored in a component repository for later reuse. Effective search and retrieval of desired components in a component repository is a very important issue. It usually takes a lot of time and efforts to gather information about a component, and its availability is essential to implement a repository. Software Component Descriptor proposed in CORBA 3 contains information about a component using an XML vocabulary. In this paper we extend Software Component Descriptor to be useful for the search of a component repository. We use a facet scheme as a search method of a component repository. And our new retrieval method supports queries connected with logical operators such as AND, OR, NOT, which were not supported with existing facet retrieval methods. Also we reduce the search complexity considerably.

  • This paper presents a component-based integration framework and its software component architecture for supporting the rapid integration of legacy design supporting systems in the distributed environment. Also, using standard interface, this software component architecture provides flexibility, extensibility and compatibility which ensure software components to be independent of the integration middleware and systems to be integrated.

  • This paper illustrates applications of the Component Object Model (COM) for power system software developments. As an integral part of Microsoft's component services, COM has gained increased popularity for developing enterprise applications. This paper illustrates the concepts of COM and the latest developments as well as the available tools for developing COM components. Possible COM applications for developing power system software, such as sparse matrix manipulation, fault location, genetic algorithm applications, and so on. are presented. Advantages and promises brought about by COM are manifested through these examples.

  • The rapid growth of communication and globalization has changed the software engineering process. Security has become a crucial component of any software system. However, software developers often lack the knowledge and skills needed to develop secure software. Clearly, the creation of secure software requires more than simply mandating the use of a secure software development lifecycle; the components produced by each stage of the lifecycle must be correctly implemented for the resulting system to achieve its intended goals. This study demonstrates that a more effective approach to the development of secure software can result from the integration of carefully selected security patterns into appropriate stages of the software development lifecycle to ensure that security designs are correctly implemented. The goal of this study is to provide developers with an Integrated Security Development Framework (ISDF) that can assist them in building more secure software.

  • A software GNSS signal generator for the GPS L1/L2/L5 and Galileo E1/E5 signals is proposed in this paper. And this signal generator is designed and implemented with several components by considering the reuse and expansion of components for similar GNSS signals. The characteristics of the reusability of the components are confirmed with the carrier generation and the band-pass filter components. And the functionality of the GNSS multi-band IF signal generator is validated by using the commercial software GPS L1 receiver, and the performance of signal acquisition, tracking and accuracy of horizontal position error are analyzed for this validation. As a result, the GPS L1 signal generator operates successfully and it could be expected that other signal generators also operate well because most of components are the same as those of the GPS L1 signal generator.

  • These days, most of safety-critical systems, which are systems those failures or malfunction may result in death or serious injury to people, or loss or severe damage to social systems, or environmental harm, are being built of embedded software or loaded controlling software systems on computers, electrical and electronic components or devices. There are a lot kind of fault analysis methods to evaluate safety of the safety-critical systems equipped computers, electrical and electronic components or devices with software. However, the only assessment method to evaluate software safety of a safety-critical system is not enough to analysis properly on account of the various types and characteristic of software systems by progress of information technology. Therefore, this paper proposes the integrated evaluation method and carries out a case study for the software safety of safety-critical system which embedded or loaded software sizes are small and control response times are not sensitive by use of two security analysis methods which are Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Fault Modes and Effect Analysis (FMEA) for ubiquitous healthcare system.
