  • A stepwise gradient elution with two wavelengths detection was performed for the separation and determination of some anions in saline water. The eight anions such as iodate, bromate, nitrite, bromide, nitrate, chromate, iodide and thiocyanate were successfully separated using AS-7 column and sodium chloride/sodium phosphate buffer solution as an eluant within 40 min. The separation behaviors of anions were studied at various sodium chloride concentrations. The peak shapes of anions of bromate, nitrite, bromide and nitrate gradually broadened as the concentration of sodium chloride increased until 1.0 M in the sample solutions. However, no effect was observed in the peak shapes of chromate, iodide and thiocynate. A good linearity was obtained at the range of ppm(mg/L). The detection limit was proved to be $10-720{\mu}g/L$ for the eight anions with $50{\mu}L$ injection volume. This method was applied to the determination of $Br^-$, ${NO_3}^-$ and $I^-$ in sea water.

  • Evaporation cooling phenomena of droplets containing fire suppression agents on a hot metal surface were experimentally investigated. Solution of water containing potassium acetate (30-50% by weight) and sodium bromide (10-30% by weight) were used in the experiments, and surface temperatures were ranged from 70-116$^{\circ}C$. The evaporation time of the droplet on the heated surface was determined by using frame-by-frame analysis of the video records. It is found that the apparent evaporation time is shorter in turns of pure water, sodium bromide solution and potassium acetate solution. However, the time averaged heat flux is higher in turns of pure water, sodium bromide solution and potassium acetate solution. In-depth temperature variation of the hot metal does not occur significantly by the kinds of additive.

  • The technique that could collect efficiently the hanji fibrous sludge from wastewater using surfactants was developed. When fibrous sludge of which concentration was about 80mg/L, was floated and collected, the optimum concentration of sodium oleate, the pore size of glass filter and the air flow rate were 10mg/L, $5-10{\mu}m$ and 200mL/min., respectively. The behavior of sodium oleate might be interfered by polyvalent cations such as $Ca^{2+}$. But when the concentration of $Ca^{2+}$ was less than 100mg/L, the interference effect did not appear. And when a typical cationic surfactant, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB), was used, the collecting yield was less than that of sodium oleate, and the amount of foam was higher than sodium oleate. When 1mg/L of CTAB was added to the hanji sludge sample contained 1mg/L of $PAMID^{(R)}$, a dispersant, fibrous sludge was effectively coagulated, the flotation time was very short and the collecting yield was above 95%. But in the case, sodium oleate was inefficient.

  • A variety of plasmid curing agents such as sodium dodecyl sulfate, acriflavine, ethidium bromide, and mitomycin-C were used to cure Bacillus subtilis cells of streptomycin resistant factor. The drug susceptibility was increased by 0.1% sodim dodecyl sulfate at stationary growth phase. The curing frequency was obtained highly at 4 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ of acriflavine, 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ of ethidium bromide, and 200 $\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$ of mitomycin-C. respectively. Curing action occurred competitively for the streptomycin and terramycin resistant factors in B. subtilis.

  • Esterolysis reactions of PNPDPP (p-nitrophenyldiphenylphosphate) by DCI ( dichloroisocyanuric acid sodium salt) in borate buffer pH8.0 micellar phase were studied. The rate of hydrolysis reaction was rapidly increased by adding cationic surfactants, CTAC (cetyltrimethylammonium chloride) or CTAB (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide), to the DCI solution. Especially in CTAB micellar system, the N-Cl bond of DCI was transformed to the N-Br bond during the reaction.

  • The inhibition performance of sodium gluconate (SG), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and their mixture (SG/CTAB) on the corrosion behavior of ${\alpha}$-brass in 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$ solution has been investigated by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), Scanning Electron Microscope with Energy-Dispersive Spectrometer (SEM-EDS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry (ICPS) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation techniques. The results reveal that SG with 5ppm CTAB, noted SG/CTAB, acts as a good corrosion inhibitor and its inhibition efficiency reached 89% after 24 h immersion in sulfuric acid solution, but slightly decreased at higher temperatures. The polarization curves displayed that SG/CTAB acts as a cathodic-kind inhibitor. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies revealed that the addition of 5ppm CTAB to different concentrations of SG considerably increases the corrosion resistance of ${\alpha}$-brass. The SEM-EDS and ICPS analyses support the experimental results. Further, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were used to understand the adsorption profiles of SG/CTAB on Cu(111) and Zn(111) surfaces.

  • Six year-old female shihtzu was presented as primary epileptic seizure. We had been treated with high dose phenobarbital sodium (6.5 mg/kg), but could not achieved adequate control seizures. In an add-on therapy, the dog was given potassium bromide at a dose of 20 to 40 mg/kg daily for a period of 24 months. This dog has showed a greater than 50% reduction in seizure frequency. The therapeutic range of serum concentration of potassium bromide was from 0.7 to 1.3 mg/ml at 6weeks after treatment. To begin an add-on therapy with potassium bromide it can be recommended at a daily dose of 20 to 40 mg/kg.

  • Organically modifidied montmorillonites were synthesized from sodium montmorillonite and alkylammonium halids (stearyltrimethyl bromide and cetyltrimethyl bromide) by solid-solid reaction. The structure of the products by solid-solid reactions was similar to that observed in a conventional solution method.
