  • This study examined the effects of ego-resilience and directors' and fellow teachers' social support on childcare teachers' job stress. The participants were 323 childcare teachers in Chung nam Province and Daejeon Metropolitan City. The research instruments were Job Stress Scale by Cho(2004), Ego-resilience Scale by Park(1996) with CPI and CAQ correction, and Social Support Scale by Park(1985). Collected data were analysed by t-test, F test and Scheff$\acute{e}$ test for post hoc test, Pearson's productive correlation and stepwise multiple regression, and Cronbach's $\alpha$ for reliability by SPSS PC program (17.0 version). The results were as follows: First, the childcare teachers' job stress level was low (M=2.51, SD=.63), while ego-resilience level and social support level of directors and fellow teachers (M=3.68, SD=.58; M=3.62, SD=.94; M=3.83, SD=.69, respectively) were above the average. Second, there were significant differences between different levels of ego-resilience and of social support from directors and fellow teachers. Last, directors' social support and childcare teachers' optimistic attitude of ego-resilience were the most dominant variables that affected childcare teachers' job stress level(R2=38.3% for total score of childcare teachers' job stress).

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between depression, alexithymia, social support and somatic symptom in adolescents. Methods: The subjects were 1,519 adolescents in Seoul. Radloff's CES-D (The Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression scale) for depression, Bagby, Parker and Taylor's TAS (Toronto Alexithymia Scale) for alexithymia, Park's social support and Derogatis's SCL-90 (Brief Symptom Inventory & Matching Clinical Rating Scale) were used. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, t or F test, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Depression and somatic symptom were lower but social support was higher when compared to mean score. The somatic symptom was significantly positive correlations to age, depression, alexithymia but no correlation to social support. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that 21.8% of the somatic symptom was significantly accounted for depression, alexithymia, social support, gender, economic status, living alone, and living with parent. Conclusion: These results suggest that depression, alexithymia, living alone can be potential risk factors for somatic symptom in the adolescents. Therefore, these findings will give useful information for developing a promotion program focused on social support in the adolescents.

Methods: A total of 459 college students from a university in Incheon, participated in this study. Data were collected between April 6 to 30, 2010 using the Korean version of the Children of Alcoholics Screening Test (CAST-K), CAGE, Social Support, Self-Esteem, Family Adaptability and Cohesion, and Resilience measurements. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Resilience among the ACOA group showed significant relationships with self-esteem (r=.53, p<.001), social support (r=.43, p<.001), and family adaptability and cohesion (r=.25, p<.013). Multiple regression analysis showed that 45% of the variance for resilience in the ACOA group was accounted for by age, gender, social support, self-esteem, and religion. Conclusion: The results of the study show that self-esteem and social support are important determinants of resilience in ACOA, thus it is recommend that further resilience training programs for ACOA be developed to enhance their social support and self-esteem, and ultimately to increase their resilience.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was by understanding the correlation between the depression, social support and self-care of tuberculosis patients and by identifying the factors that influence the self-care. Methods: The study subjects were 119 outpatients who were diagnosed with pulmonary and respiratory tuberculosis at a university hospital in D city. The survey questions measured depression, social support, self-care. Using the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program, the collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlations and multiple regression analysis. Factors affecting self-care of the subjects were social support (β=.51, p<.001), depression (β=-.32, p<.001), drug discontinuation experience (β=-.30, p<.001) and drug resistance (β=-.14, p<.001).
