The western-style industrial forest management practice involving large scale clearcutting, silviculture with industrially desirable species, and inadequate consideration on ecosystem preservation, has faced severe criticisms from environmentalists, ecologists and conservationists. With an increasing concern about environmental degradation the general public has also been becoming vocal in demanding ecologically sound alternative forest management. An age-old practice of sustainable ecosystem management variously defined as community forestry, social forestry or homestead forestry, has received increased attention in recent days. This type of traditional, and often not very organized method of natural resource management has been practised in many countries from the prehistoric times. It is believed that with a clear understanding of the functioning of ecosystem and community needs, the existing landuse method can be developed into a more productive one. The nature of community forestry management will vary depending on the scale, geographical location, social/community structure and expectations. This article argues that although the rate of economic growth may be lower with community forestry than with industrial forestry, the former fosters the principle of ecosystem sustainability. Industrial forestry may have an initial high growth rate but often it is associated with unsustainable harvesting leading to ecosystem degradation. A review of the traditional methods of economic analyses shows that they do not take into account the many social and environmental costs associated with forestry. It is argued that a well managed community forestry can maintain the critical balance between economic and ecosystem sustainability. An integrated model of community/homestead forestry development is proposed by coordinating the extension services of the departments of agriculture, forestry and environment.
This study aims to reveal the capacity of impacts that the diffusion of networked computer in rural areas, or so-called rural telematics, has on regional development schemes. It is accomplished mainly by a case study of a small rural village near the city of Weonju, Korea, which has been recently designated as an information model village by the provincial government and given supports for information infrastructure. The case study shows that although the residents'computer use is confined to a very elementary level in every respect of using internet, e-mails, and visiting village portal site, there is high potential that extended use of networked computer would bring positive changes in life-styles and community formulation, and hence new possibilities of regional development. These positive moves will be possible by increasing economic, social and cultural benefits that the residents receive from using computer facilities. One of the important prerequisites is to transform external motivation to internal one and to lead the residents to a more active use of computers.
With the advent of communication technologies including electronic collaborative tools and conferencing systems provided over the Internet, virtual collaboration is becoming increasingly common in organizations. Virtual collaboration refers to an environment in which the people working together are interdependent in their tasks, share responsibility for outcomes, are geographically dispersed, and rely on mediated rather than face-to face, communication to produce an outcome. Research suggests that new sets of individual skill, knowledge, and ability (SKAs) are required to perform effectively in today's virtualized workplace, which is labeled as individual virtual competence. It is also argued that use of online social networking sites may influence not only individuals' daily lives but also their capability to manage their work-related relationships in organizations, which in turn leads to better performance. The existing research regarding (1) the relationship between virtual competence and task performance and (2) the relationship between online networking and task performance has been conducted based on different theoretical perspectives so that little is known about how online social networking and virtual competence interplay to predict individuals' task performance. To fill this gap, this study raises the following research questions: (1) What is the individual virtual competence required for better adjustment to the virtual collaboration environment? (2) How does online networking via diverse social network service sites influence individuals' task performance in organizations? (3) How do the joint effects of individual virtual competence and online networking influence task performance? To address these research questions, we first draw on the prior literature and derive four dimensions of individual virtual competence that are related with an individual's self-concept, knowledge and ability. Computer self-efficacy is defined as the extent to which an individual beliefs in his or her ability to use computer technology broadly. Remotework self-efficacy is defined as the extent to which an individual beliefs in his or her ability to work and perform joint tasks with others in virtual settings. Virtual media skill is defined as the degree of confidence of individuals to function in their work role without face-to-face interactions. Virtual social skill is an individual's skill level in using technologies to communicate in virtual settings to their full potential. It should be noted that the concept of virtual social skill is different from the self-efficacy and captures an individual's cognition-based ability to build social relationships with others in virtual settings. Next, we discuss how online networking influences both individual virtual competence and task performance based on the social network theory and the social learning theory. We argue that online networking may enhance individuals' capability in expanding their social networks with low costs. We also argue that online networking may enable individuals to learn the necessary skills regarding how they use technological functions, communicate with others, and share information and make social relations using the technical functions provided by electronic media, consequently increasing individual virtual competence. To examine the relationships among online networking, virtual competence, and task performance, we developed research models (the mediation, interaction, and additive models, respectively) by integrating the social network theory and the social learning theory. Using data from 112 employees of a virtualized company, we tested the proposed research models. The results of analysis partly support the mediation model in that online social networking positively influences individuals' computer self-efficacy, virtual social skill, and virtual media skill, which are key predictors of individuals' task performance. Furthermore, the results of the analysis partly support the interaction model in that the level of remotework self-efficacy moderates the relationship between online social networking and task performance. The results paint a picture of people adjusting to virtual collaboration that constrains and enables their task performance. This study contributes to research and practice. First, we suggest a shift of research focus to the individual level when examining virtual phenomena and theorize that online social networking can enhance individual virtual competence in some aspects. Second, we replicate and advance the prior competence literature by linking each component of virtual competence and objective task performance. The results of this study provide useful insights into how human resource responsibilities assess employees' weakness and strength when they organize virtualized groups or projects. Furthermore, it provides managers with insights into the kinds of development or training programs that they can engage in with their employees to advance their ability to undertake virtual work.

Purpose: Research on supply chain sustainability is important for exporters When the factor of sustainable development is considered by the businesses as well as governments of all countries. Research on supply chain sustainability is important for exporters. Sustainable supply chain management and supply chain dynamics will help enterprises adapt to changes in the business environment. This study analyzes the impact of sustainable supply chain management, and supply chain dynamic capabilities on the sustainable development of exporting enterprises in Vietnam. Research design, data, and methodology: The research model and survey are designed based on previous studies after surveying export enterprises. With 185 samples collected from export enterprises. The Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis technique is used. Data analysis is performed on SPSS and AMOS software (Reliability test, Confirmatory Factor Analysis, SEM). Results: Sustainable supply chain management and supply chain dynamic capabilities all have positive effects on the sustainable development of businesses (sustainable development is measured by distribution: measuring economic efficiency, social efficiency, and environmental performance). Conclusions: From the results of this study, the authors also made several recommendations to help export enterprises develop sustainability based on sustainable supply chain management and supply chain dynamic capabilities.
The primary purpose of this study is to develop a quality of life scale for adults with developmental disabilities and to test its validity and reliability. For this purpose, the authors generated a initial item pool composed of 62 items based on the conceptual model of Felce and Perry (1995). The initial items were evaluated by three reviewers, and then the items were revised based on their feedbacks. Utilizing a survey questionnaire including the scale items, data on 430 adults with developmental disabilities were collected in collaboration with 33 social welfare agencies and residential facilities for people with disabilities. Through descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, and relevant theories, the qualities of each item were examined, and then the best 20 items were selected. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for the final scale was .87. The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the 5-factor model fitted the data reasonably well, In addition, criterion validity of each subfactor of the scale was successfully established, employing t-test, one-way ANOVA, and correlation analysis. In discussion, implications and limitations of this study were examined.
While new service development has become one of the most popular topics among practitioners and academics, methodologies development for new service development is only in its infancy. Especially, despite the growing interests in open innovations that effectively utilize external resources for R&D, existing research on new service development methodology designed to use external resources is scant. This article proposes a new methodology to generate new service business models that utilize massive external resources in combination with internal resources using ICT. The "Open Collaboration Innovation Methodology (OCIM)" is built based upon the theory of open innovation model and social psychology theories on behavioral motivation for cooperation. The model begins with the procedures to identify external resources that meet service objectives and requirements, and suggests motivation, control and monitoring mechanisms to implement a new service model. A business case is followed to demonstrate the use of the model. We expect that this model can be practically used by companies that are planning for developing new business models, and will provide a better understanding on open collaboration models, collective intelligence and crowd sourcing models.
Capturing real-time daily information on food prices is invaluable to help policymakers and development organizations address food security problems and improve public welfare. This study analyses the possible use of large-scale online data, available due to growing Internet connectivity in developing countries, to provide updates on food security landscape. We conduct a case study of Indonesia to develop a time-series prediction model that nowcasts daily food prices for four types of food commodities that are essential in the region: beef, chicken, onion and chilli. By using Twitter price quotes, we demonstrate the capability of social data to function as an affordable and efficient proxy for traditional offline price statistics.

This study analyze factors influencing the dietary life of Korean women. This study analyzed 653 women aged 19 (and over) in Korea using materials developed by Social Sciences Korea Food Sustainability Study Group in 2015. As a result, in dietary life characteristics, females with higher education in their 40s and 50s and with a high income level, married women, and women thinking are subjectively healthy and show a statistically significant difference compared to other groups. Next, a correlation analysis is conducted to examine the relationship between independent variables and dietary life. The results showed a positive relationship with all variables, and a high correlation in the sales recognition of homegrown products (r=.384), the recognition of a food environment (r=.349), the recognition of food welfare (r=.325), and the recognition of food safety (r=.322). Factors that influence dietary life are extracted and the causal relationship is verified through multiple regression analysis of which the dependent variable is dietary life. In a regression model of dietary life, the researcher finds the trend that explanation power increases by models that the variable group is added in an individual model ($R^2$ is changed from .090 to .215 and from .250 to .273). Subsequently, age, level of education, recognition about value of organic agricultural product, recognition about the sales of homegrown products, recognition of food environment, recognition of food safety, and recognition of food insecurity are factors that influence the dietary life of women.
Iranian women are at high risk of low compliance with repeat mammography due to a lack of awareness about breast cancer, negative previous experiences, cultural beliefs, and no regular visits to a physician. Thus research is needed to explore factors associated with repeated mammography participation. Applying the concept of perceived risk as the guiding model, this study aimed to test the fit and strength of the relationship between perceived risk and physician recommendation in explaining repeat mammography. A total of 601 women, aged 50 years and older referred to mammography centers in region 6, were recruited via a convenience sampling method. Using path analysis, family history of breast cancer and other types of cancer were modeled as antecedent perceived risk, and physician recommendation and knowledge were modeled as an antecedent of the number of mammography visits. The model explained 49% of the variance in repeat mammography. The two factors of physician recommendation and breast self-examination had significant direct effects (P < 0.05) on repeat mammography. Perceived risk, knowledge, and family history of breast cancer had significant indirect effects on repeat mammography through physician recommendation. The results of this study provide a background for further research and interventions not only on Iranian women but also on similar cultural groups and immigrants who have been neglected to date in the mammography literature.
Purpose: This study was conducted in order to explore self-perceived objectives, effects, determinant factors of satisfaction and demands on home-based rehabilitation service (HBRS) based on a community-based rehabilitation (CBR) model in community-dwelling disabilities. Methods: This research was conducted through in-depth interview. HBRS was conducted by four physical therapists for one hour a day, once a week, for eight weeks. After an eight-week intervention period, in-depth interviews were conducted using a semi-structured questionnaire for five recipients of HBRS and six care givers. Results: For the physical effect, some participants experienced positive effects, whereas others did not due to the short-term intervention period. For the social and emotional effects, 'occurrence of motivation for exercise', 'change of surroundings' and 'sorriness for the therapist' emerged as keywords. For the determinant factors of satisfaction, 'movement-inducing therapy', 'therapy from the specialist', 'development of friendship & social network', and 'learning the way of self-rehabilitation' emerged as keywords. For further demands on HBRS, participants stated that 'sufficient time for therapy', 'user opinion-reflected therapy', 'additional instructions for therapeutic exercise & activities of daily living', and 'active promotion for HBRS' were necessary. Conclusion: Participants were satisfied with the physical, social, emotional, and educational aspects of HBRS. In particular, the participants regarded educational aspects as the significant factor throughout self-perceived objectives, determinant factors of satisfaction and the demands. This result suggests that when providing HBRS to community-dwelling persons with disabilities, therapists should recognize the necessity and significance not only of the physical, but also the educational aspect of HBRS.
