  • Relations of regulation, negative emotionality and problem behaviors to school adjustment were examined for 1,105 elementary school children from 558 2nd grade and 547 5th grade. Children reported their regulation and negative emotionality and teachers rated children's problem behaviors such as hyperactive and withdrawal behaviors and school adjustment including school life, grades, social competence with peers and teacher. Measures of problem behaviors were highly contributed to the prediction of children's school adjustment, especially hyperactive to school life and grades and withdrawal to social competence with peers and teacher. Behavioral regulation was associated with school adjustment including school life and social functioning with teacher and was able to modulate the influence of hyperactive. It was found that depression had both direct and indirect effects via withdrawal behavior on school adjustment.

For this study, an analysis was conducted using AMO 22.0 and SPSS Statistics 22.0, with 426 teenagers in general middle schools. The findings of the analysis were as follows. First, the GRIT of teenagers had a significant impact on social support and career preparation behaviors. Social support had a significant effect on career preparation behaviors, as well. Second, in the relationship between the GRIT of the teenagers and their career preparation behaviors, social support, and the sub-elements of the social supports, which are emotional support, information support, evaluatory support, and material support, all had mediating effects. These study findings showed that GRIT and social support were influential factors upon career preparation behaviors. Therefore, in order to promote career preparation behaviors among teenagers, it is necessary to provide social support in the family and school environments, and it is also helpful to enhance the GRIT, which is an individual trait.

  • This study identified fashion consumers disposal behavior and analyzed the effects of consumers pursuing values in disposal, environmental awareness, and sustainable fashion consumption attitudes in regards to fashion disposal behavior. A survey questionnaire was developed and data were obtained from 460 consumers in their 20's to 50's in Korea who had experienced fashion disposal behaviors during last 12 months. As a result, there were four different fashion disposal behaviors such as economical, practical, and social disposal as well as hoarding behaviors. Consumers pursuing values in disposal affected fashion disposal behavior. Practical and economical values had positively impacted economical disposal and hoarding behaviors. While hedonic value had a negative impact on economical disposal behavior, it had a positive impact on social disposal behavior. Also, environmental-social values had positively impacted practical and social disposal behaviors. Fashion-related environmental knowledge had positively impacted economical and practical disposal behaviors and PCE affected social disposal behavior, while environmental concerns had a negative impact on economical disposal behavior. Consumers attitude toward used-fashion items, fashion recycling, and fashion innovativeness affected all of fashion disposal behaviors. Although hoarding behavior has been an under researched area, the finding implied that hoarding behavior was affected by consumer's pursuing value in disposal and sustainable consumption attitude. Also, environmental-social values and attitudes toward used-fashion items would induce practical disposal behavior such as reuse by alteration or reform. Consumers economical and hedonic values can promote donations or exchange/resale of unwanted fashion items, which can lead to sustainable consumption.

  • This study explored the longitudinal developmental paths of preschooler's external problem behaviors from infancy. Subjects consisted of 205 preschoolers (106 boys, 99 girls aged 4) and their mothers recruited for the 2009 in-depth Panel Study on Korean Children. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlations, and structural equation modeling using SPSS 18.0 (SPSS Co., Chicago, IL, USA), Amos 18.0 (SPSS Co., Chicago, IL, USA). The results were as follows: Maternal depression at preschooler's age 0 had a direct effect on maternal social parenting style at preschooler's age 0. Maternal social parenting style at preschooler's age 0 had a direct effect on preschooler's effortful control at age 1. Preschooler's effortful control at age 1 had a direct effect on preschooler's external problem behaviors at age 4. Marital conflict at preschooler's age 0 did not have a direct effect on preschooler's effortful control at age 1. The direct effects of maternal depression at preschooler's age 0 on preschooler's effortful control at age 1, and on preschooler's external problem behaviors at age 4 were not significant. In addition, direct effect of maternal social parenting style at preschooler's age 0 on preschooler's external problem behaviors at age 4 was not significant. This study showed that maternal psychological characteristics, marital conflict, maternal social parenting style and preschooler's effortful control in infancy should be considered simultaneously to explain the effect on preschooler's external problem behaviors.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this descriptive study was to identify factors influencing pulmonary tuberculosis patients' self-care behaviors. Methods: The patients were 125 adults over the age of 19 who were diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis, receiving care at the National tuberculosis hospital. The survey questions measured family support, multidimensional scale of perceived social support (MSPSS), stigma and self-care behaviors. Results: The average score for self-care behaviors was 3.91, ranging from 2.22 to 5.00. There was a significant positive correlation between self-care behaviors and support system. There was a significant negative correlation between self-care behaviors and stigma. The significant variables influencing self-care behaviors were family support (β = .33, P< .001), smoking (β= -.23, p= .002), age (β= .22, p= .005) and experience of stopping treatment (β= -.17, p= .040). These factors explain 36% of pulmonary tuberculosis patients' self-care behaviors. Conclusion: Family support is very important to improve selfcare for tuberculosis patients. However, those in their fifties, men, and those who do not have a job and have underlying diseases have low family support, so they need active support at the national level. The study results suggest that a educational and nursing programs must be designed to reduce stigma and promote support system in order to enhance self-care behaviors.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the path model of child's sex, temperament, maternal parenting behavior, and child's emotion regulation on child social behaviors. The subjects were 286 elementary school children. Data were gathered through questionnaires reported by mothers and teachers. Path analysis revealed that (1) mother's overprotective or coercive parenting behaviors effected neither child's emotion regulation nor social behaviors (2) child's sex and activity level effected child's aggression both directly and indirectly through child's emotion regulation (3) child's 'activity level' and 'avoidance' temperament effected child's social withdrawal both directly and indirectly through child' emotion regulation. Findings underscore the role of emotion regulation as a mediator in predicting child aggression and social withdrawal.

  • In today's media environment, TV programmers and advertisers must strive ever harder to attract the attention of audiences. Yet what may be even more crucial is engaging audiences in conversations on social media and nourishing stronger relationships. To provide insights into how to improve audience experiences through social media television coviewing (STVC) behaviors, this study investigates audience motivations for using social networking sites (SNSs) while watching sports program (i.e., social media television coviewing-STVC) and examines relationships between identified motivations and key audience engagement outcomes. The results reveal four motivations for STVC behaviors: sports-related interaction seeking, information seeking, convenience seeking, and socializing. Further, results reveal that sports-related interaction seeking, information seeking, and socializing motivations are significant predictors of satisfaction, investment, and commitment to the program. Audience engagement outcomes are not predicted, however, by convenience seeking or by variables pertaining to SNS-use regarding STVC behaviors.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of perceived social support and self-efficacy on stress-coping behaviors among school-aged children. The subjects in this study were 312 selected students in an elementary school. Data were gathered from May 12 to 23, 2014. The collected data were analyzed by a statistical package SPSS. As a result, social support perceived by the children and their self-efficacy had significant positive correlations with positive stress-coping behaviors. As for influential predictors for positive stress-coping behaviors, social support and self- efficacy were significantly influential. The findings of the study ascertained that the children's positive stress-coping behaviors were under the heavy influence of social support and self-efficacy. In the future, the development of programs that aim at boosting social support and self-efficacy to affect the reduction of children's stress is required, and related intervention is also necessary.
