  • In this paper, we propose a classification analysis method for diagnosing and predicting problematic smartphone use in order to provide policy data on problematic smartphone use, which is getting worse year after year. Attempts have been made to identify key variables that affect the study. For this purpose, the classification rates of Decision Tree, Random Forest, and Support Vector Machine among machine learning analysis methods, which are artificial intelligence methods, were compared. The data were from 25,465 people who responded to the '2018 Problematic Smartphone Use Survey' provided by the Korea Information Society Agency and analyzed using the R statistical package (ver. 3.6.2). As a result, the three classification techniques showed similar classification rates, and there was no problem of overfitting the model. The classification rate of the Support Vector Machine was the highest among the three classification methods, followed by Decision Tree and Random Forest. The top three variables affecting the classification rate among smartphone use types were Life Service type, Information Seeking type, and Leisure Activity Seeking type.

  • As users' convenience increases, the issue of personal information leakage about smartphones is also becoming serious. Since all of the user's personal information needed to provide functions such as electronic banking services and personal file storage is stored in the smartphone, the user's important personal information may be exposed if the smartphone is lost or stolen. In order to protect this privacy, governments and telecommunications companies offer smartphone locking or initialization services, but there are many loopholes and problems. In this paper, we design and implement applications that prevent malicious use of a user's personal information stored on a smartphone when a smartphone is lost or stolen, and that automatically initializes the smartphone used after removing or altering the USIM chip and destroys the user's personal information stored within the phone. The proposed application prevents users from maliciously using their personal information when a smartphone is lost or stolen.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing sleep quality of nursing students, focusing on depression, smartphone usage before sleep, and academic score. Among nursing students in the 3rd and 4th grades of two universities, 196 subjects were randomly selected. Data were collected from April to July 2021 using tool of sleep quality(PSQI-K), depression(Korean BDI-II), and smartphone usage before sleep, and the effect on sleep quality was analyzed through Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis. As a result of the study, two factors, depression and smartphone usage before sleep, had 39.0% explanatory power for the sleep quality of nursing students, and were statistically significant. That is, the higher the depression level and the more frequent smartphone usage before sleep, the worse the sleep quality level. However, academic score was not a significant variable. In conclusion, in order to improve the sleep quality of nursing students, it is necessary to reduce the pattern of sleep disorders related to depression and to correct the lifestyle by reducing smartphone usage before sleep.

  • With the development of ICT(Information and Communication Technology), the number of smart devices is rapidly increasing. LBS(Location Based Service) applications that provide user's location based service are used in various fields. There is also a growing demand for indoor precision positioning technology to provide seamless services. In this paper, we propose an indoor positioning system that estimates the location of a smartphone user. The proposed algorithm determines whether the received signal is LOS(Line-of-Sight) or NLOS(Non-Line of-Sight) in order to decrease multipath effect by the indoor environment. The proposed positioning algorithm is very simple and requires only the AP(Access Point) coordinates. In addition, it requires only two APs for estimating the location of a smartphone user. The proposed algorithm is a practically applicable technology without any additional hardware and kernel modification in the smartphone. In the experiment results, the reliability of the positioning system was found to be within 0.83 m.

  • This study aimed to identify the dimensions of benefits and costs that consumers perceive in utilizing locationbased applications (LBAs) on smartphones, and to distinguish consumer groups according to their perceptions of those benefits and costs. A web-based consumer survey was conducted-among consumers who had experience using LBAs. Four hundred participants were 20's to 40's, with 200 women and 200 men. Descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, t -tests, one-way analysis of variance, and cluster analysis were used for data analysis. The findings of this study are as follows: first, LBAs accounted for about 20% of the smartphone apps used by consumers. Second, factor analysis identified the underlying dimensions of the benefits and costs of smartphone LBAs. The underlying dimensions of benefits perceived by consumers were information/economic/convenience, entertainment and personalization. Privacy concerns, lack of trust and lack of behavioral control were the underlying dimensions of the perceived costs of LBAs. Third, ANOVA showed that the perceived benefits and costs of smartphone LBA services differed according to the characteristics of the consumer. Cluster analysis identified three distinctive consumer groups according to the levels of perceive costs and benefits of smartphone LBAs. The three groups were labeled the 'benefit-cost balanced group,' 'cost centered group,' and 'benefit centered group.'

  • In the paper, a smartphone-controlled personal mobility system(PMS) based on a compass sensor is developed. The use of a magnetic compass sensor makes the PMS move according to the heading direction of a smartphone controlled by a rider. The proposed smartphone-controlled PMS allows more intuitive interface than PMS controlled by pushing a button. As well, the magnetic compass sensor makes a role in compensating for the mechanical characteristics of motors mounted on the PMS. For adequate control of the robot, two methods: absolute and relative direction methods based on the magnetic compass sensor and wireless communication are presented. Experimental results show that the PMS is conveniently and effectively controlled by the proposed two methods.
