As smartphone use is increasing within the middle-aged population, society should pay closer attention to the mental health problems associated with smartphone addiction. This study examines the possibility that depression, anxiety, and ADHD can be interpreted not only as negative aspects, but also as positive aspects, in an addiction-related individual. We used habitual and addictive smartphone behavior as the dependent variables; anxiety, ADHD, depression, and habitual smartphone use as the independent variables; and self-control as a moderating variable. Depression and ADHD in smartphone users were found to be associated with higher levels of addictive smartphone use. Anxiety was having negative effect on addictive smartphone use. However, habitual smartphone use didn't significantly affect addictive smartphone use. Further analysis indicated that depression, anxiety, and ADHD have mediating effects on habitual smartphone use. This study confirmed that psychological factors in adults, as well as habitual/addictive smartphone use and self-control, significantly influence smartphone overdependence.
The study analyzed questionnaires of 431 radiologists in the field of radiology for identifying the effects of smartphone addiction on self-control for college students using smartphones. The results showed that the standard of living for smartphone addiction was higher for middle-income brackets, and that for girls, it was high for gender. Male students showed high self-control among men and women, while those who are not addicted to smartphones showed high levels of self-control among non-addicted people. In addition, the results of correlation are gender and smartphone addiction (r=.221, p<.001) showed a static correlation between smartphone and self-control (r=-.371, p<.001) It has been found that there is a negative correlation. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that university students will be able to improve their program development and self-control ability to prevent smartphone addiction and will be used as basic data for prevention education.
Multiple convenience features have been getting installed in recently released cars. However, the control of them has many uncomfortable matters yet. To resolve them, it is needed to study how to use easier the convenience features and control them remotely. Currently, wide range of convergence services are being released in various industries by using smartphone and smartphones with its state-of-the-art functions also are being released. In this paper, we design and implement smartphone-based applications for controling the vehicle's convenience features to control the vehicle convenience features with smartphone. To do this, we configure CAN (Controller Area Network) communication between the vehicle's various convenience features, and establish MCU (Micro Controller Unit) to control each feature. We also connect between the MCU and smartphones to make them available for the remote control. We can control lights, turn signals, audio, windows, air conditioner, and so on with the implemented smartphone-based control service of vehicle's convenience features using CAN remotely.
This study presents an examination of the effects of the sub-factors of both self-control and school adjustment on smartphone addiction among a sample of elementary school students. The study is comprised of 93 5th-grade students from x elementary school located in Seoul, Korea. A descriptive analysis, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis were performed, and the following two study results are presented: 1) Among the sub-factors of self-control, instant gratification positively predicts smartphone addiction. 2) Among the sub-factors of school adjustment, a student's adherence to school rules negatively predicts smartphone addiction. Based on these results, the implications for preventing smartphone addiction among elementary-school students are discussed.
In this paper, we propose a control system for synchronizing attitude between an Android smartphone and a mobile robot. The control system is comprised of a smartphone and a mobile robot. The smartphone transports its attitude to the mobile robot and receives the attitude of mobile robot through bluetooth communication. Further, the smartphone displays the mobile robot on the screen by using embedded camera, which can be used as a pseudo augmented reality. Comparing the received attitude data from smartphone, the mobile robot measures its attitude by an AHRS(attitude heading reference system) and controls its attitude. Experiments show that the synchronization performance of the proposed system is maintained in the error range of $1^{\circ}$.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the factors affecting on smartphone addiction according to the classification of addiction-risk groups among college students, focusing on self-control. Methods: A sample of 242 college students at K University in Seoul was recruited to participate in the study. A structured questionnaire composed of items for the self-rated smartphone addiction scale and self-control scale was used to collect data. Results: The number of students in smartphone addiction-risk group was 66 (27.3%). This study had 17.5% of the explanatory power, including perceived smartphone necessity (${\beta}=.330$, p=.007), and instant self-control (${\beta}=-.281$, p=.028) in addiction-risk group. Whereas, in non-risk group, the affecting factors included gender (${\beta}=.194$, p=.004), self-awareness of addiction (${\beta}=-.290$, p<.001), and instant self-control (${\beta}=-.281$, p<.001) with 31.3% of the explanatory power. Conclusion: There is a need to develop an intervention program to prevent the addiction of smartphones and to improve self-control among college students.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of smartphone use on muscle fatigue and tenderness in the cervical erector spinae (CES) and the upper trapezius (UT) and on the cervical range of motion among subjects with and without neck muscle pain. The subjects were 30 smartphone users in their 20 s who -were assigned to either an experimental group with neck muscle pain or a control group without neck muscle pain. Muscle fatigue and tenderness in the CES and the UT as well as the subjects' cervical range of motion were measured before and after 20-min smartphone sessions in a sitting position. In a between-group comparison of muscle fatigue, the experimental group showed a significantly greater decrease in median frequency in the CES and the right UT after smartphone use (p<.05). Regarding the assessment of muscle tenderness after smartphone use, the experimental group showed a statistically significant decrease in the pressure-pain threshold (PPT) in all muscles (p<.05), whereas the control group showed a significantly decreased PPT in the right CES and the UT (p<.05). The assessment of the cervical range of motion revealed a statistically significant reduction in the cervical flexion-extension and left lateral flexion in the experimental group (p<.05) after smartphone use. However, there was no significant change in the cervical range of motion in the control group (p>.05) after smartphone use. When compared with the control group, the experimental group demonstrated greater changes in cervical extension, lateral flexion, and rotation, except for cervical flexion (p<.05). In conclusion, when smartphone users have pre-existing neck muscle pain, the use of a smartphone further increased muscle fatigue and tenderness in the neck and reduced PPT and the cervical range of motion.
Purpose : To investigate the degree of smartphone addiction among health-related college students, and to compare and analyze the effect of the degree of addiction on attention control and interpersonal support. Methods : 184 people who voluntarily participated and agreed to fill out the questionnaire were randomly sampled. The smartphone self-diagnosis scale was used to measure the degree of smartphone addiction, and the Attentional Control Questionnaire (ACQ) was used as a tool to measure the degree of attention control. In addition, the Interpersonal Support Evaluation List (ISEL) was used to measure the degree of interpersonal support. Results : In comparison of the degree of smartphone addiction according to the general characteristics of the subjects, there was no significant difference according to religion, major, and grade, but there was a significant difference in gender and daily use time of smartphones (p <.05). There was a significant difference in the degree of attention control according to the level of smartphone addiction (high risk, potential risk, general user group) (p <.05), but there was no significant difference in the degree of interpersonal support. Conclusion : The degree of smartphone addiction was relatively higher for women than for men, and users who used it for a long time per day were more addicted. It also showed that attention control was further reduced in highly addictive users.
