Continuous Human Activity Detection Using Multiple Smart Wearable Devices in IoT Environments

  • Recent improvements on the quality, fidelity and availability of biometric data have led to effective human physical activity detection (HPAD) in real time which adds significant value to applications such as human behavior identification, healthcare monitoring, and user authentication. Current approaches usually use machine-learning techniques for human physical activity recognition based on the data collected from wearable accelerometer sensor from a single wearable smart device on the user. However, collecting data from a single wearable smart device may not provide the complete user activity data as it is usually attached to only single part of the user's body. In addition, in case of the absence of the single sensor, then no data can be collected. Hence, in this paper, a continuous HPAD will be presented to effectively perform user activity detection with mobile service infrastructure using multiple wearable smart devices, namely smartphone and smartwatch placed in various locations on user's body for more accurate HPAD. A case study on a comprehensive dataset of classified human physical activities with our HAPD approach shows substantial improvement in HPAD accuracy.

일 병원의 환자중심 지능형 병상 지원(Smart Bedside Station) 시스템의 이용현황 및 사용 만족도 (Utilization of and Satisfaction with Smart Bedside Station System as a Patient-centered Healthcare System)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the utilization of and satisfaction with the smart bedside station (SBS) system among users in a hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive design was used. The participants were 190 patients, 186 family caregivers, and 154 nurses in a hospital. Results: Around 78.1% of patients or family caregivers used the SBS system at least once during their hospital stay. The commonly used items on the SBS system menu were "lab findings", "hospital cost", "today's medication", and the "alarm message". Satisfaction with the SBS system of patients and family caregivers were significantly higher than those of nurses (F=39.88, p<.001). Conclusion: A patient-centered SBS system was a useful system that could increase patient satisfaction and comfort. More specific and technical service contents reflecting the current healthcare system should be added.

스마트 교육을 활용한 팀 기반 문제 중심 학습의 효과: 고위험 신생아 간호를 중심으로 (Effects of Team-based Problem-based Learning Combined with Smart Education: A Focus on High-risk Newborn Care)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of team-based problem-based learning combined with smart education among nursing students. Methods: A quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group, pre-posttest design was used. The experimental group (n=36) received problem-based learning combined with smart education and lectures 7 times over the course of 7 weeks (100 minutes weekly). Control group (n=34) only received instructor-centered lectures 7 times over the course of 7 weeks (100 minutes weekly). Data were analyzed using the $x^2$ test, the Fisher exact test, and the independent t-test with SPSS for Windows version 21.0. Results: After the intervention, the experimental group reported increased learning motivation (t=2.70, p=.009), problem-solving ability (t=2.25, p=.028), academic self-efficacy (t=4.76, p<.001), self-learning ability (t=2.78, p<.001), and leadership (t=2.78, p=.007) relative to the control group. Conclusion: Team-based problem-based learning combined with smart education and lectures was found to be an effective approach for increasing the learning motivation, problem-solving ability, academic self-efficacy, self-learning ability, and leadership of nursing students.

도농복합도시의 스마트도시 전략 모델 제시 - 충청남도 금산군 사례분석을 중심으로 - (A Smart City Model in Urban-Rural Complex Area - A Case Study of Geumsan-gun -)

  • This paper conducted a survey of residents and public officials for the projects to make smart-city plans of Geumsan-gun. In introduction, several domestic and foreign cases related to smart-city projects were Investigated. To initiate the smart-city project of Geumsan-gun, the local status of Geumsan-gun was investigated regarding various aspects of natural, social, urban environment and smart-city facilities. The results of this survey are as follows: Overall, more than half of survey respondents said they had satisfaction of their housing quality. Several problems in their residence areas, such as insufficient welfare systems, shortage of parking spaces, industrial infrastructure, were reported. Meanwhile, the survey result indicated that tourism and leisure facilities, health care support systems, industries promote the economy and job market of the area. An interview with public official is also important to select the relevant meaningful projects and regional issues. Three models for each spatial unit were proposed in Geumsan-gun based on the natural, agricultural, and geographical environment. In result, the three smart-city models are categorized as urban type(large area), complex city type(medium area), and smart village type(small area)

서비스 디자인 관점에서 본 스마트 헬스케어의 선행 조건 : 고령자 경험 사례를 중심으로 (Prerequisites on Smart Healthcare in the Perspective of Service Design : Focusing on the Elderly Experience Case)

  • Due to the increasing interest in wellness aroused by the aging population and the pursuing feature of active old age, Korean elderly set importance on long life with their healthy condition. Following the change in the paradigm of the medical delivery system from hospital-oriented, treatment-oriented to personal-centered and self-care, Service design application of Smart Healthcare for the elderly became valuable. Smart Healthcare is a healthcare service provided through the fusion of ICT technologies including mobile/wearable devices, IoT, big data, and information technology, and it is utilized to prevent diseases managing abundant health information and living habits. As a methodology for delivering such Smart Healthcare to the elderly, Service design can be adopted. Therefore, this study would like to present the perquisites of Smart Healthcare design for the elderly through analyzing the results from in-depth interview methods between the elderly and medical staff. As a result of this study, guidelines for Service design application of health vulnerability management for the elderly utilizing smart phones were presented. Therefore, this study presented four prerequisites composed of 'high level of supplementation and ethical decision making', 'improvement of inequality in accessibility and experience', 'resolving problems in policy implementation' and 'user-friendliness' for the Smart Healthcare service design for the elderly. Overall, Service design is expected to play an innovative role in improving the quality of life for the elderly through the process of collecting and delivering information on Smart Healthcare centered on the experience of the elderly.

  • This paper presents development of a management system for the health and diseases of the elderly. This study aimed to the promotion of the u-healthcare industry and to the increase in its competitive power by developing and expanding a system for managing the health and diseases of the elderly, in cooperation with u-healthcare companies. The study is underway through the following four substudies. In the first substudy titled development of the bio-signal collection and analysis technology using smart media, a technology that supports the collection of bio-signals in the elderly using portable terminals. In the second substudy titled development of the patient-specific healthcare platform expansion and enhancement technology, a technology is being developed for making medical decisions and taking measures based on the results of the processing of the collected bio-signals. In the third substudy titled development of the N-screen based healthcare contents open service technology, a technology is being developed to provide information on health, diseases, and medicine to platforms. In the fourth substudy titled development of the oriental medicine diagnosis and analysis technology for senile diseases. This study is expected to help ensure an excellent workforce and new technologies in the healthcare sector using smart phones, and to help reduce medical expenses by improving the health of citizens.

Effects of 8-Week Elastic Resistance Exercise on Knee Isokinetic Rate of Velocity Development and Balance by Age

  • Ten women in their 20s and 10 women in their 50s were selected to investigate the effect of an elastic band exercise program for 8 weeks according to age on women's knee speed expression rate and balance. Knee isokinetic muscle strength measurement, single-legged standing with eyes closed, and YBT were performed 1 week before and after the exercise program. The measured data were analyzed through a mixed design two-way ANOVA, and if there was a significant difference, post hoc verification was performed using the bonferoni method. In our study, as a result of an 8-week elastic band exercise program, there was no difference in the speed development rate according to the measurement period, and the speed development rate according to age was found to be higher in people in their 50s than in their 20s. In our study, there was no difference in balance ability depending on the measurement period, and there was also no difference in balance ability depending on age. Discussing the results of our study, we found that 8 weeks of elastic band exercise cannot bring about significant changes in speed development ability and balance ability, which become more accurate with age.

u-라이프케어 모니터링 시스템 단말기 개발 (Development of u-Lifecare Monitoring System Device)

  • u-라이프 케어 단말기는 생체 정보를 수집하고, 운동을 패턴 별로 분류, 저장하고 일정 시간마다 안드로이드 폰에 블루투스 무선통신을 통해 전송한다. 전송된 정보는 안드로이드 폰 어플리케이션을 통해 확인할 수 있다. u-라이프 케어 단말기는 3축 가속도 센서를 이용하여 활동량을 모니터링한 후 소모한 칼로리를 계산한다. 생체 데이터 마이닝을 통해 건강상태를 판단하고 적절한 맞춤형 운동치료를 컨설팅하게 된다. 생체 정보를 전송할 때 블루투스 무선통신을 통해 안드로이드 폰에 바로 전송하기 때문에 기존의 라이프케어 제품들에서 센싱된 정보를 웹서버에 전송하기 위해 사용되어지는 모바일 게이트웨이나 홈 게이트웨이가 별도로 필요치 않다는 장점을 가지고 있다.

노인요양시설의 스마트 기술 도입에 대한 탐색적 연구 -요양시설 종사자 답변을 중심으로- (Adoption of the Use of Smart Technology by Health-care Workers in Nursing Homes: an Exploratory Study)

  • 본 연구는 노인요양시설에 도입가능한 스마트 기술을 탐색해봄으로 시설입소노인들의 삶의 질 향상을 꾀하기 위해 시도되었다. 조사대상자는 노인요양시설에서 노인의 직 간접적 케어에 종사하는 요양보호사, 사회복지사, 간호사 등을 대상으로 실시되었으며 총 6개의 요양시설에 근무하는 종사자들을 통해 총 127명의 자료가 수집되었다. 수집방법은 설문지를 이용하되 4명의 노인복지전공자들이 스마트기기에 대한 설명을 병행했다. 수집된 자료를 바탕으로 평균 및 표준편차를 통한 요구도를 분석한 결과 스마트 기술을 요양시설에 적용할 경우 가장 유용한 영역으로는 가족관계지원 영역, 건강지원 영역, 여가지원 영역, 물리적환 경적응지원 영역의 순으로 나타났다. 구체적 항목별로는 물리적환경적응지원 영역에서는 시설직원익히기, 특정공간 방향찾기였으며, 건강지원영역에서는 안전센서, 프로그램 알람이, 가족관계 지원영역에서는 가족 사진보기, 자신의 사진/동영상 앨범 활용이, 여가 지원영역에서는 음악듣기, 영화/텔레비젼 시청이 상대적으로 높게 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 응답자의 인구 사회적 특성 및 스마트기기 특성에 따라 다르게 나타났는데, 이를 토대로 향후 연구에서는 노인을 대상으로 스마트 기술에 대한 욕구를 파악함으로 좀 더 심도깊은 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다.

노인요양원 입소자의 복약순응도 향상을 위한 평가지표의 개발 및 임상활용 (Development and Clinical Use of Assessment Indicators for Improving Medication Adherence of Elderly Residents in Nursing Home)

  • Background: South Korea is rapidly being an aging-society and the demand of long-term care insurance services for elderly patients is rising. In addition, because the elderly taking multiple medicines, the adherence is lowered and the adverse events are easily occurred. Therefore, many are interested in introducing the geriatric pharmacy specialist to manage this situation. Purpose: By applying a similar program such as the geriatric pharmacy specialist working in nursing home, we conducted this study to evaluate the potential contribution to both the health insurance services and financial savings for the elderly patients. Methods: We conducted a trial in an elderly nursing home to collaborate between doctor and pharmacist making a checklist for improving medication adherence and establish a consultation system. Also we applied a smart phone application in the pharmaceutical care processes. Results: Thereby completing the drug therapy related checklist apply to nursing facilities in South Korea. And we got a performance that improves medication adherence when used in the clinical practice settings. Conclusion: By introducing a training program of pharmacy care managers and geriatric professionals such as the United States and Japan, we revealed the elderly nursing home residents and vulnerable elderly people living alone were improved the medication adherence and it will contributed to the health and quality of life of the patients.
