  • This paper has attempted to propose a more progressive direction for U-environmental sculptures in a ubiquitous urban space in terms of usability, service, function and formative characteristics that enhance user satisfaction with these sculptures. For this, Media Pole, a U-environmental sculpture on Gangnam U-Street, has been examined. The results of this study are as follows: First, a study of user satisfaction was planned after establishing levels of satisfaction in terms of service, function and formative characteristics. In terms of satisfaction by the section of Media Pole, the public transportation map was the most influential in service while street culture and beauty of shape were critical in function and formative characteristics, respectively. In the relationship between satisfaction by section and overall satisfaction, furthermore, functional satisfaction had the biggest influence. Therefore, the development of human-centered functional factors which have pleasant and touching stories to facilitate communication with citizens are important in order to develop various Media Pole contents to enhance user satisfaction with the U-environmental sculpture and allow it evolve into a Gangnam landmark Since we are in the initial stage of a U-city, there are many problems that need to be addressed such as a lack of natural beauty, poor material quality of environmental sculptures, absence of storytelling, poor technology, lack of content, poor profitability and lack of means of social communication. In the end, the development of a comfortable, people-friendly space and U-environmental sculptures are needed in consideration of economic, social and cultural aspects instead of focusing on advanced technology only.

  • Recently, many people have attempted to combine the 4th industry in various fields. Citizen participation has also become more important in the policy making and decision making process. Therefore, this study examined ways to encourage citizen participation by integrating the 4th industry in the field of urban planning and design. The research method was to design street space using virtual reality, and to examine the preference of design and the satisfaction of using a virtual reality device for Cheongju citizens and residents. The main result is that the use of VR in the design process of street space can achieve a sufficient outcome in terms of inducing resident participation. The opinions of the respondents before and after the VR experience were different from each other. After the VR experience, understanding, participation and interest in design were improved. On the other hand, during the course of the study, there are many difficulties in obtaining a place that satisfied the conditions of the PC-VR equipment. Although it can be used by connecting a smart phone and a VR device, the constraint of free movement and degradation of the graphic quality are inevitable. In addition, it is difficult to operate simple interfaces because VR devices are not yet popularized. Accordingly, it will be necessary to popularize and commercialize VR equipment and establish a legal basis.

  • Recently, theservice field based on the location while expanding into a variety of business areas and have generated significant revenue. In particular, the map service provides a variety of information in conjunction with such public transport directions. Therefore, this study evaluated the map service, as one of the key technologies, StreetView and LoadView photographs of panoramic photograph-support service-modules that can be supported on smart phones. For this, purpose sensors were provided to allow smart phone users to easily publish panoramic photographs. The unnecessary parts could be removed from several photos and pictures using the design technology, and the naturalness of the connection could be maintained by applying the algorithm to handle a single photograph. Finally, a system to work with smartphone panoramic photographs was configured and designed to operate a smartphone application panoramic photograph for 6 months.

  • Snow removal system is named for machinery which manages roads for passing of pedestrians and automobiles when snow is piled up on the road. This paper studies configuration design of snow removal system that has several functions-melting snow in the street without moving it to other place, transferring snow to the melter and cleaning road by spraying water for cleaning road. These sorts of functions are analyzed by function decomposition method of Kirshman and Fadel and, based upon which, machine parts are selected. Layout design would follow functional design to testify if the selected component satisfies space which is allowed by constraints.

  • Living in the age of information people face problems related to information overload. Information is easy to produce, store and distribute through various communication channels, one of which is emails. With the appearance of the mobile devices, such as smart phones and tabs, people can have access to email inbox at any moment of time from everywhere. In this paper we present information extraction system with a specific goal of extracting meeting location from the announcement of seminar or conference. We apply a machine learning method (conditional random fields, CRF), train the system using annotated corpus of seminar and conference announcements and validate results by applying various extracted correction rules and patterns. Furthermore, we normalize extracted location, and reference using geo-coding databases, OpenStreetMap and Wikipedia resources to determine real geographical coordinates.

  • To suggest lighting regulations to prevent light pollution, domestic and international standards were analyzed and the luminance of outdoor signboards of main street at night was measured. In addition, to regulate the methods of luminance measurement, experiments on the measuring distance and direction from the signboards were conducted. The regulations were set as maximum luminance for outdoor signboard lightings of channel letter type, and limitations were suggested on each of the four lighting zones.

  • In recent years, many researchers studies to promote the welfare of disabled people using IT technology. In particular, their suggestions are used a lot of mobile sensor installed on the street. These systems are acquired and to store the data sent to the server over the network, and by analyzing the users life log to judge of their risk state. In particular, persons with disabilities are exposed to various risks. So, they must need to the guardians if he go out. Thus, this study is a method for alleviating these so much pressure to smart appliances and impaired life log analysis system.

  • In this paper, we designed a LBS-based smart platform for Lifelog service that can utilize the other's lifelog information. The conventional Lifelog service means that the system records the daily activities of the smart device user so the user can retrieve the early-recorded information later. The proposed Lifelog service platform uses the GPS/UFID location information and the various information extracted from the image as the lifelog data. Further, the proposed Lifelog platform using DB can provide the user with the Lifelog data recorded by the other service user. The system usually provide the other's Lifelog data within the 500m distance from the user and the range of distance can be adjustable. The proposed smart platform based on image recognition for Lifelog can acquire the image from the smart device directly and perform the various image recognition processing to produce the useful image attributes. And it can store the location information, image data, image attributes and the relevant web informations on the database that can be retrieved by the other use's request. The attributes stored and managed in the image information database consist of the followings: Object ID, the image type, the capture time and the image GPS coordinates. The image type attribute has the following values: the mountain, the sea, the street, the front of building, the inside of building and the portrait. The captured image can be classified into the above image type by the pattern matching image processing techniques and the user's direct selection as well. In case of the portrait-attribute, we can choose the multiple sub-attribute values from the shirt, pant, dress and accessory sub-attributes. Managing the Lifelog data in the database, the system can provide the user with the useful additional services like a path finding to the location of the other service user's Lifelog data and information.
