A Saliency Map based on Color Boosting and Maximum Symmetric Surround

  • Nowadays, the saliency region detection has become a popular research topic because of its uses for many applications like object recognition and object segmentation. Some of recent methods apply color distinctiveness based on an analysis of statistics of color image derivatives in order to boosting color saliency can produce the good saliency maps. However, if the salient regions comprise more than half the pixels of the image or the background is complex, it may cause bad results. In this paper, we introduce the method to handle these problems by using maximum symmetric surround. The results show that our method outperforms the previous algorithms. We also show the segmentation results by using Otsu's method.

자동차의 자기 주행차선 검출을 위한 시각 센싱 (Vision Sensing for the Ego-Lane Detection of a Vehicle)

  • Detecting the ego-lane of a vehicle (the lane on which the vehicle is currently running) is one of the basic techniques for a smart car. Vision sensing is a widely-used method for the ego-lane detection. Existing studies usually find road lane lines by detecting edge pixels in the image from a vehicle camera, and then connecting the edge pixels using Hough Transform. However, this approach takes rather long processing time, and too many straight lines are often detected resulting in false detections in various road conditions. In this paper, we find the lane lines by scanning only a limited number of horizontal lines within a small image region of interest. The horizontal image line scan replaces the edge detection process of existing methods. Automatic thresholding and spatiotemporal filtering procedures are also proposed in order to make our method reliable. In the experiments using real road images of different conditions, the proposed method resulted in high success rate.

Simultaneous Overexpression of Integrated Genes by Copy Number Amplification of a Mini-Yeast Artificial Chromosome

  • A copy number amplification system for yeast artificial chromosomes (YACs) was combined with simultaneous overexpression of genes integrated into a YAC. The chromosome VII (1,105 kb) was successfully split to 887 kb, 44 kb containing the element for copy number amplification, and a 184-kb split-YAC. The 44-kb split-mini YAC was amplified a maximum of 9-fold, and the activity of the reporter enzymes integrated into the split-mini YAC increased about 5-7-fold. These results demonstrate that the mini-YAC containing a targeted chromosome region can be readily amplified, and the specific genes in the mini-YAC could be overexpressed by increasing the copy number.

  • 본 논문에서는 고내압 및 고속 스위칭 특성을 갖는 고성능 BCD(Bipolar- CMOS-DMOS) 소자 구조를 고안하였다. 공정 및 소자 시뮬레이션을 통하여, 최적화된 공정 규격과 소자 규격을 설계하였으며, 고안된 소자의 전기적 특성을 만족시키기 위하여 이중 매몰층 구조, 트랜치 격리 공정, n-/p- 드리프트 영역 형성기술 및 얕은 접합 깊이 형성기술 등을 채택하였다. 이 스마트 파워 IC는 20V급 Bipolar npn/pnp 소자, 60V급 LDMOS소자, 수 암페어급의 VDMOS, 20V급 CMOS소자 그리고 5V급 논리 CMOS를 내장하고 있다.

Siamese Network for Learning Robust Feature of Hippocampi

  • Hippocampus is a complex brain structure embedded deep into the temporal lobe. Studies have shown that this structure gets affected by neurological and psychiatric disorders and it is a significant landmark for diagnosing neurodegenerative diseases. Hippocampus features play very significant roles in region-of-interest based analysis for disease diagnosis and prognosis. In this study, we have attempted to learn the embeddings of this important biomarker. As conventional metric learning methods for feature embedding is known to lacking in capturing semantic similarity among the data under study, we have trained deep Siamese convolutional neural network for learning metric of the hippocampus. We have exploited Gwangju Alzheimer's and Related Dementia cohort data set in our study. The input to the network was pairs of three-view patches (TVPs) of size 32 × 32 × 3. The positive samples were taken from the vicinity of a specified landmark for the hippocampus and negative samples were taken from random locations of the brain excluding hippocampi regions. We have achieved 98.72% accuracy in verifying hippocampus TVPs.

A Study on Object Detection in Region-of-Interest Algorithm using Adjacent Frames based Image Correction Algorithm for Interactive Building Signage

  • Recently, due to decrease hardware prices and the development of technology, analog signage has been changing to digital signage for providing content such as advertisements, videos. Furthermore, in order to provide advertisements and contents to users more effectively, technical researches are being conducted in various industries. In addition, including digital signage that uses displays, it can be seen that it provides advertisements and contents using diverse devices such as LED signage, smart pads, and smart phones. However, most digital signage is installed in one place to provide contents and provides interactivity through simple events such as manual content provision or touch. So, in this paper, we suggest a new object detection algorithm based on an adjacent frames based image correction algorithm for interactive building signage.

Study on Mobile Meteorological Information Services for Urban Area

  • On the limited urban area, precise measurement of meteorological data is not easy for the cost problem. The facilities collecting the data require high installment costs. The mobile sources can be a solution in city region. For example, a public bus on which some meteorological sensors are installed can act as moving information gathering station. The information is gathered on a server and aggregated to generate useful information for smart phone application. To implement the services, several obstacles are exists. This paper studies on a design of this mobile meteorological information service system for urban area.

  • Optimal design of a piezoelectric smart structure is studied for cabin noise control. A cubic shaped acoustic cavity with a flat plate which covers one side is taken as the problem. The sensor signal is returned to the actuator through a negative gain. The acoustic cavity is modeled using the modal approach which represents the pressure fields in the cavity as a sum of mode shapes of the cavity with unknown coefficients. By using orthogonality of the mode shapes of the cavity, finite element equation for the structure with the influence of the acoustic cavity is derived. The objective function is the average pressure at a certain region, so-called silent zone, in the cavity and the design variables are the locations and sizes of the piezoelectric actuator and sensor. The optimal design is performed at several frequencies and the results show a remarkable noise reduction.

  • Crushers are equipment that crush natural stones, to produce aggregates used at construction sites. As the crusher proceeds, the inner liner becomes worn, causing the size of the aggregate produced to gradually increase. The vision sensor-based aggregate analysis system analyzes the size and distribution of aggregates in production, in real time through image analysis. This study developed an algorithm that can segmentate aggregates in images in real time. using image preprocessing technology combining various filters and morphology techniques, and aggregate region characteristics such as convex hull and concave hull. We applied the developed algorithm to fine aggregate, intermediate aggregate, and thick aggregate images to verify their performance.

스마트 향촌을 위한 지능형 공간 디자인 연구 - 중국 저장성 시커우촌을 중심으로 (Research on Intelligent Space Design of smart rural - Focus on Xikou village, Zhejiang Province, China)

  • 스마트 향촌 건설은 중국 정부가 추진하는 '향촌 진흥' 사업의 중요한 추진 방향이다. 본 논문에서는 중국 저장성 지방정부에서 제시한 '미래 커뮤니티' 스마트 향촌 시범 발전사업인 시커우촌 프로젝트에 본 연구자가 참여하여 UX디자인 관점에서 정성적, 정량적 연구 방법을 통해 스마트 향촌 생활권의 지능화를 디자인하였다. 현지조사를 통해 스마트 향촌 지능화 디자인에 대한 사용자 수요를 파악하고, 이에 기초하여 지역 최대의 공간을 인지 가능한 수준의 스마트 향촌 시범 단지로 디자인하여 프로젝트 완료 후 사용자경험 피드백에 대해 계량화하여 분석하였다. 시범지역인 '시커우촌'에 실제 디자인 적용 전과 후를 3장과 4장에 향촌 시대를 기억할 수 있는 시그널, 향촌 문화교류 광장, 지능형 사무 공간과 생활 공간에 사용자 요구를 디자인 결과물로 구성하여 주민과 여행객이 지능형 환경으로 인한 불안감을 줄이기 위해 인위적인 수동 서비스 부분도 디자인하였다. 현재 주민이 거주하며 스마트 향촌 공간 디자인 사례로 활용되며 지속 발전 중이다.
