  • The domestic construction industry is becoming larger, high-rise and specialized. However, safety consciousness is still staying in low levels and falling accidents are apt to rise compared to other industries. So, the new way of safety management is required for reducing of the construction falling accidents. In this paper, we evaluate appropriateness of safety management on construction sites utilizing USN using smart safery equipment. Thus, we calculate loss costs of falling accidents considering accident rates and costs of the USN using smart safery equipment installation then compare both calculated costs. This research aims to propose the method for reduction of construction accidents in addition to conventional safety control methods by analyzing the propriety of applying USN using smart safery equipment on construction sites.

  • With increasing number of serious construction disasters such as death, a safety management in real-time is more required recently. One of the ways to support the needs, a convergence with Information Technology (IT) has been noticed. Although number of inefficiencies including a limitation of IT equipment (weight, control inconveniences) has been concerned, data exchanging and processing fields have been improved at a wide range with an advance of mobile communication and an introduction of smart mobiles that are simple and convenient. In this research, a framework is realized in connection with smart mobile to find the problems of current safety management and derive demands in order to support effective safety management. Two smart mobile applications, Safety Management application and Safety Guideline application, enable a real-time safety management and less re-work by provided safety information.

  • To prevent fall from height, interest in the development and introduction of smart harness is increasing as policies and laws such as mandatory use of smart safety equipment at construction sites. However, despite the potential of smart harness, construction safety cannot be contributed unless adopted or used by users. The objective of this research is to examine the perception between safety managers and workers on smart harness, user perception according to user's experience and differences through semi-structured in-depth interviews. As a result of the interview and comparative analysis, both safety managers and workers perceived smart harness as uncomfortable, and workers with experience in using smart harness perceived that simple functions that inform risks are useful for securing safety. This research results show different user's perception of smart harness can be confirmed how much factors affect the use of smart harness, which can provide implication into establishing measures to strengthen the use of smart harness in the future.

  • As contemporary building construction type is getting higher and deeper, construction equipment usage is getting more, and related fatal accidents are on an increasing trend. Because of this, a method was drawn which could grasp the present state of construction equipment management and manage safety of the equipment more easily for accident prevention by choosing 2 kinds of Construction equipment which cause safety accident frequently among the equipment mainly used in construction site. This study suggested a method about construction equipment safety management using "smart phone" base which could be used in safety management for construction equipment by whomever in construction site. After attachment of QR code included safety checklist, It became possible that site managers could check more efficiently by scanning with their smart phone when they inspect equipment. Moreover, by the construction interested who didn't know what and how they have to inspect could point out unsafe condition in the early stage of equipment entering or take unsafe one out of the site by using new smart phone safety checking system is installed, it became possible that critical accident caused by construction equipment was prevented in advance.

  • As contemporary building construction type is getting higher and deeper, construction equipment usage is getting more, and related fatal accidents are on an increasing trend. In these days, due to the deteriorating construction business circumstance, job finding problem of equipment operator, and dumping contract, equipment lease suppliers are putin jeopardy. In high-rise building construction, especially tower crane, mobile elevated work platform and other High place operation cars among construction equipment cause many critical accidents because of drop supply of construction biding bringing out dumping contract could cause unsafe and poor construction management. Because of this, a method was drawn which could grasp the present state of construction equipment management and manage safety of the equipment more easily for accident prevention by choosing 2 kinds of Construction equipment which cause safety accident frequently among the equipment mainly used in construction site. • Although the construction industry has become highly advanced, traditional accidents still occur on construction sites, prompting numerous studies and systems aimed at accident prevention using smart construction technology. This study is an exploratory investigation of utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for safety management. The study aims to verify harmful and hazardous factors that UAVs can detect on construction sites, classify management factors, and define improvement measures to present a checklist for each process. Through this, we hope that smart construction technology will be further expanded and applied for on-site safety management.

  • Railroad construction requires a lot of budget, manpower, and equipment, and as a result, many accidents occur. Although efforts are being made at the national level to reduce the accidents at railway construction sites, the occupational accident rate is not showing a downward trend. Various efforts are needed to reduce accidents, the application of smart construction safety technology will be effective. However, if smart construction safety technology is introduced indiscriminately without analysis, duplicate investment may occur, which may lead to a waste of budget for railway construction. In this regard, this study analyzes accident cases at railroad construction sites through a survey of stakeholders and proposes smart construction safety technologies to be effective for those accident types.

  • Recently, many disasters have occurred due to poor management of construction site. In addition, as legal regulations on safety management at construction sites are strengthened, its importance is being further emphasized. In relation to smart safety management technology, a study was introduced to build an analysis model through various safety-related data collected within construction companies. This model derives quantitative disaster risk about the site level through information related to past disasters and near misses. However, construction work is performed separately by work group of each partner company. There is a limitation in that individual workers cannot directly experience this analysis information. In this study, we propose a method to derive the safety disaster risk of individual work units from disaster risk of the site level. We expect that this study to be helpful for smart safety management technology of construction sites.
