  • With the rapid development of both ubiquitous computing and the mobile internet, big data technology is gradually penetrating into various applications, such as smart traffic, smart city, and smart medical. In particular, smart medical, which is one core part of a smart city, is changing the medical structure. Specifically, it is improving treatment planning for various diseases. Since multiple treatment plans generated from smart medical have their own unique treatment costs, pollution effects, side-effects for patients, and so on, determining a sustainable strategy for treatment planning is becoming very critical in smart medical. From the sustainable point of view, this paper first presents a three-dimensional evaluation model for representing the raw medical data and then proposes a sustainable strategy for treatment planning based on the representation model. Finally, a case study on treatment planning for the group of "computer autism" patients is then presented for demonstrating the feasibility and usability of the proposed strategy.

  • With the discovery in plants of the proteinaceous forisome crystalloid (Knoblauch, et al. 2003), a novel, non-living, ATP-independent biological material became available to the designer of smart materials for advanced actuating and sensing. The in vitro studies of Knoblauch, et al. show that forisomes (2-4 micron wide and 10-40 micron long) can be repeatedly stimulated to contract and expand anisotropically by shifting either the ambient pH or the ambient calcium ion concentration. Because of their unique abilities to develop and reverse strains greater than 20% in time periods less than one second, forisomes have the potential to outperform current smart materials as advanced, biomimetic, multi-functional, smart sensors or actuators. Probing forisome material properties is an immediate need to lay the foundation for synthesizing forisomebased smart materials for health monitoring of structural integrity in civil infrastructure and for aerospace hardware. Microfluidics is a growing, vibrant technology with increasingly diverse applications. Here, we use microfluidics to study the surface interaction between forisome and substrate and the conformational dynamics of forisomes within a confined geometry to lay the foundation for forisome-based smart materials synthesis in controlled and repeatable environment.

  • Nowadays, BIM(Building Information Modeling) technology has been slowly accepted and developed around the world, making smart construction possible. Many countries are also actively promoting the comprehensive application of BIM and changing the traditional construction methods of the construction industry. This study reviews foreign and domestic literature reviews on BIM application barriers and smart construction applications, providing a theoretical basis for Chinese construction enterprises to reduce or eliminate BIM application barriers. Based on the common feature of policies or strategies that promote the development of smart construction in developed countries, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Singapore, the deficiencies of China's smart construction policies for construction enterprises are analyzed. Moreover, according to the literature review of the development status of China's construction industry, the SWOT analysis matrix of China's smart construction strategy is obtained. Finally, based on the SWOT matrix analysis results, combined with the development status of China's construction industry and the obstacles faced by smart construction, the portfolio strategies and recommendations for the development of smart construction are proposed in this work. These portfolio strategies and recommendations can provide a reference value for construction enterprises.

  • The purpose of this study was firstly, to evaluate the contents of vocabulary game applications for young children's language learning. and secondly, to examine whether there is any differences between Korean and English word games in terms of the evaluation score. For this purpose, the word game applications in smart phone and tablet PC were analyzed, which included 30 Korean word games and another 30 English ones. The criteria to evaluate the contents were developed based on Children's Software Evaluation Instrument developed by CTR, the multimedia evaluation standard by Hee Sook Park, Young Joo Lee, and mobile contents evaluation standard by Soo Ui Choi. As a result, the educational value got the highest score whereas the design characteristics area got the lowest score in the whole evaluation analysis. And English word game applications mostly got higher score than Korean versions. The result of this study would suggest the way to evaluate educational game applications in use and to contribute to developing educational game contents aimed at young children's language learning.

  • Recently, there is a growing need for an open software platform where developers easily write intelligent motion control applications for smart cars, smart robots, smart factories, and so on. To this end, a general-purpose operating system with rich functionalities and various hardware supports can be a candidate for such a platform, but it is known to have limitations in guaranteeing the responsiveness of individual applications. In this paper, to assess the suitability of Linux to be such a platform, we evaluate the real-time performance of Xenomai-patched Linux on an ARM-based processor Exynos4210 with motion control applications. Experimental results show that it is possible to stably provide motion cycle times below 1ms to such applications even with background workloads.

  • With a rapid growth of hardware and product material industries, evolution of handheld terminal technologies is progressed. Various applications using mobile phone are the major trend in recent smart applications. Especially, interesting applications using camera module in a smartphone are developed continuously, mobile users are able to use various useful mobile applications nowadays. In this paper, we design and implement smartphone app for measuring real size of the shooting object in the image taken by a camera module in a smartphone precisely. We implement 4 different shooting modes for precise measurement of objects and 0 point control module is developed to minimize the differences of shooting images taken by different types and systems of various smartphones. The smartphone app proposed and implemented in this paper is analyzed and evaluated by a simulation study.

  • As the utilization rate of smart device increases, various applications for smart device have been developed. Since these applications can contain important data related to user behaviors in digital forensic perspective, the analysis of them should be conducted in advance. However, lots of applications get to have new data format or type when they are updated. Therefore, whether the applications are updated or not should be checked one by one, and if they are, whether their data are changed should be also analyzed. But observing application data repeatedly is a time-consuming task, and that is why the effective method for dealing with this problem is needed. This paper suggests the automatic system which gets updated information and checks changed data by collecting application information.

  • There is a growing interest in the development of smart environments through predicting the behaviors of inhabitants of smart spaces in the recent past. Various smart services are deployed in modern smart cities to facilitate residents and city administration. Prediction algorithms are broadly used in the smart fields in order to well equip the smart services for the future demands. Hence, an accurate prediction technology plays a vital role in the smart services. In this paper, we take out an extensive survey of smart spaces such as smart homes, smart farms and smart cars and smart applications such as smart health and smart energy. Our extensive survey is based on more than 400 articles and the final list of research studies included in this survey consist of 134 research papers selected using Google Scholar database for period of 2008 to 2018. In this survey, we highlight the role of prediction algorithms in each sub-domain of smart Internet of Things (IoT) environments. We also discuss the main algorithms which play pivotal role in a particular IoT subfield and effectiveness of these algorithms. The conducted survey provides an efficient way to analyze and have a quick understanding of state of the art work in the targeted domain. To the best of our knowledge, this is the very first survey paper on main categories of prediction algorithms covering statistical, heuristic and hybrid approaches for smart environments.

  • There are many assistive devices for the visually impaired. They are becoming smart. In this paper, we propose a device that help route guidance for a visually impaired person. It is composed of a smart phone, cane, and hands-free devices. The smart phone helps a route guidance. The cane detects an obstacle and transmits it to the hands-free device. The hands-free device communicates with a visually impaired person. We here present their architecture, signal flow, configuration, and their circuit diagrams.
