This study mainly examined the unit space (room) called 'MARI' of the private houses that were built between the 19c and the early 20c in the insular areas of southwestern sea. Generally, this region has unique historicity (restructure of the insular environment in the 17c and the 18c) and geographic environment that are different from inland regions thus the environment is presumed as a related factor to developments and structures of the private houses. 'MARI' is a noticeable space that is installed in a main building without an exception even in small 3 bedroom private houses. Its nature has location and usage distinctions in an architectural plan with similar 'MARU' of inland Jeollanam-Do. There are large crocks filled with grains at MARI. Thus, MARI is a storage room. Mostly rice and various other kinds of grains are stored in the several crocks, large and small. Many household goods are kept here as well. Another peculiar function of MARI is that this space commonly enshrines ancestral tablets of three generations. Hence, MARI takes a role of a shrine of an aristocratic house from an inland region. Considering the size of the house and space, this seems to be a very unprecedented utilization of area. MARI is located at the top (at the head of the house) on the floor plan. In other words, it is located at the space in the highest rank. The importance of ancestor worship and grains is evinced architecturally. It is really interesting fact that MARI is also located within recently built modern houses (Cheongsan Island, Joyak Island, etc.). Therefore, it can be said that the unique MARI tradition of this region has an intact continuity even today. After all, MARI has a great significance as a unique unit space of insular areas of southwestern sea that is installed in the main buildings of all houses regardless of size and shape of the houses, and their insular locations.

This study gives the results of the measurements and analysises of the reverberation times in a small room such as apartment houses. We measured the RT by changing measurement conditions, which were sound sources. sound source's positions, receiving point & height, sampling time and so on. The critical factor affecting reverberation time was sound source in unoccupied houses and the reverberation time differences between result of RT using impulsive and interrupted sound source was 0.3sec at 500Hz frequency. And the difference of RT due to sound sources affected the sound insulation such as apparent sound reduction index and sound level difference about 1dB at each frequency in unoccupied houses.
The demand for one-room system house as a new type of house will increase gradually, and residents also tend to be diversified. However, a method of planning of planning of one-room system house was limited and unified. Current floor plans of the one-room don't utilize a benefit of open plan in small areas. The purpose of this study is to propose several guidelines for the planning of one-room system houses that correspond to residents' needs in order to facilitate the benefit of open plan such as efficiency and multi-purpose use in small area. For this, a field survey was carried out as case studies, with individual interviews, questionnaires, and actual survey including taking pictures. Subjects were 50 residents who living in one-room system houses in Busan. Space usage behavior of residents, residential satisfactions, and preference attitudes on the attached service facilities were analyzed. The results were synthesized to suggest several guidelines for planning of one-room system house.
In the modern society, phenomena such as a decrease in population and an increase in urban small houses caused by demographic changes, a decrease in midium-large housing constructions, and the concentration of one to two person families in the capital area cultivated ground for the growth of small house market. In response to these trends, interior coordination becomes a critical factor to be applied to the small houses in order to suit the residents' needs in most convenient, efficient and aesthetic ways. Therefore, an evaluation element is in demand to extract, evaluate and constantly improve the interior coordination elements. This study extracts and analyzes the essential elements required for small houses into spatial structure, system coordination and interior coordination. In domestic cases, most of spatial structure was conventional and linear while in foreign countries, various variations were found to reflect the needs from different consumers. For the system coordination, convenience played the most important role to emphasize on the easy use of digital system and built-in appliance system in domestic cases. However, in foreign countries, safety issue and economic aspects were the most considered when it comes to the interior coordination. In regard to interior coordination, installations of the storages for the limited small spaces that also support as extended spaces were rare to find in both cases for domestic and international settings. It is expected that systematic studies focused on more objective standards for interior coordination shall be implemented to provide indicators to measure the interior coordination cases in the near future.

The purpose of this study was to measure the indoor air quality of small-scale apartments and then proposed a method to improve the indoor air quality of the small-scale apartments by comparing with the result of indoor air quality in the Clean-Healthy House. In case of formaldehyde, a highly volatile organic compound, the concentrations of indoor measured both in small-scale apartments and the Clean Healthy houses did not exceed- the guideline of Korea. The guideline of Korea for acetaldehyde was not available, so the guidelines of Japan and the World Health Organization were used to measure the concentration of acetaldehyde. The study results demonstrated that three out of seven small-scale apartments investigated exceeded the guideline of Japan; and the preliminary research on the Clean-Health Houses was low at about 30-60% of the guideline of Japan. The result of the VOCs measurement showed that toluene, ethylbenzene, and styrene in some small-scale apartments exceeded the guideline of Korea. However, the Clean-Healthy Houses in the previous studies did not exceed the guideline of Korea with regard to all the pollutants. Therefore, this study suggests the application of the construction standards of the Clean-Healthy house in order to improve the indoor air quality of small-scale apartments. In addition, the current study anticipates that improvement of the indoor air quality in the residential environments should be universally applied, not limited to the type and size of the residence.

Through the industrialization since 1960, Korean housing has been developed in a uniform way which is to demolish first and then construct from the scratch. In this process, detached houses and multi-family living detached houses have disappeared without being paid much attention. The detached houses with blood or non-blood related multi-family living situations are typically popular, and worthy enough to explore for professionals right and creative solutions to enhance their values. But many of the people suffered for the expenses and the absence of the idea to enhance their housing themselves. The purpose of this research is to clarify user's demands of developing an adaptable lifespan house and to try to find the solution about the expenses of self improvement. This study used a Small group workshop Panel Method. The workshop consisted of three stage, such as the awareness of their existing residence and lease status, the needs of the housing improvements and the demands of the adaptable house. This study is expected to serve as a fundamental data to promote discussion on reuse of existing residence building and to promote rental detached houses.

In South Korea, millions of poultry have died due to repeated heat waves every year. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of heating and cooling loads of chicken houses in Korea and to present an effective insulation and ventilation measures to minimize the damage of poultry due to summer heat wave and to save energy in chicken houses in winter. The heating and cooling loads of standard chicken house were calculated. As a result of the calculation of maximum heating load based on the minimum ventilation rate in winter, the outdoor air temperature requiring heating was $6{\sim}7^{\circ}C$ to keep the indoor air temperature of chicken houses as $24^{\circ}C$. The peak cooling load of chicken houses was mostly taken by the heat generated by chickens and the heat gain due to ventilation. The heat gain through building envelopes was as small as neglectable. Most of chicken houses is usually cooled by gigantic forced ventilation in summer in Korea. When the chicken houses are cooled by electric cooling machine such as cooler or air conditioner, it is more effective to keep minimum ventilation rate to reduce the maximum cooling load. To lower the temperature of supplying water to cooling pad, it is recommended to use the underground water below 10 meters from the ground if there is abundant underground water.

This study aims to find out the change trend of the existing vacant houses in the small and medium sized farming city. And the using method of those houses is proposed in this paper. Especially to find out the change trend ratio of vacant houses in the case, the historic conservation area - Keumma village is selected as the research target area. To carry out this study, it was surveyed in 2013 when they were not designated as the special area first. And it is reviewed in 2017 when it is designated. The contents of the survey were their use, old age, structure, materials, color, roof of the main building and wall. they were surveyed by direct and interview survey. And thew were analyzed and synthesized. It is concluded that the 142 vacant houses in 2013 were declined 46houses in 2017. It is caused by the government support. And they will be declined continuously. The architectural statues of vacant houses between in 2013 and in 2017 are almost same in it's use, old age, structure, materials, color, roof of the main building and wall. In the use ratio of the vacant houses that of residence is most high, and that of warehouses, commerce are followed in turn. The reason of that statues is moving out is the first and the death of house holder, the difficulty of managing are followed. As the their re-use plan of owners, the selling is the first, constructing new buildings and the renovation them are followed. As the method of their use, re-use, community facilities, managing in the vacant houses bank are proposed. As the vacant houses are the reason of bad elements in the rural landscape in the farm village, the method of its improvement will be carried out.
Recently housing demands are going to be diversified, and many suggestions are driven for the housing consumer's right of choice and expectation for welfare services. These require the policy change from the clear division between houses and facilities toward more market-oriented concept capable of mixed-use development of houses with facilities. The research explores the possibilities to provide various types of mixed-use developments of houses and facilities in the level of architectural design and political implication. Major case studies focus on the elderly welfare housing with serviced residence with the comparison of similar cases in Japan. The policy implications are, first, expanding the production of elderly housing with more elderly care services, second, challenging time-sharing residence composed of serviced residence and small dwelling units, third, activating the production of small scale housing development with small public facilities. The simulation shows the merits and demerits of this concepts and the efficacy of the policy implications.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the formational process of traditional house in old village that is the base of development on rural area. The method of this research is to use the family genealogy of the clan society village in the analysis of building times, and constructed with investigation by the residents. The results of this research are described as follows. 1. At the first period of settlement in the middle time of 18C, the small relative family was located at nearby of each other. They were divided three group. The first entered man is B-group. 2. At the period of 19C, the family was enlarged by the descendants. But at that time, the house was constructed by small type. And some tiled roof houses were built by A-group part at under area of the village. And the construction of village boundary was nearly completed. 3. At the early period of 20C, the great houses were constructed by C-group part at the upper area of the village. 4. At the late period of 20C, there were not changed largely. But small change was occurred by the divided of site. Except two house, every houses were changed to tiled roof house. The residents have continued the strong preservation mind of environment for 300 years. The family genealogy was very useful to analyze the formational process of traditional house in the clan society village.
