An Exploratory Study on Information System Adoption and Implementation in a Small and Medium Enterprise : A Case of Hwacheon (중소기업의 정보시스템 도입과 실행과정에 대한 사례연구 : 화천기공을 중심으로)

  • One of the most important issues in a small and medium sized enterprise (SME) is to identify how to apply IT to the organization so that it maximizes the effectiveness of IT. In general, a large company mainly plans to adopt, implement, and stimulate a new IT in a viewpoint of advanced IT system's capability for maximizing the effectiveness of IT. However, SME requires a totally different approach since SME's situation is different from a large enterprise's one. In this study, we investigate several factors that have an influence on the successful IT adoption and implementation of a SME through the case of Hwacheon. We also find out that CEO's support, CEO-initiating strategic meeting, IT development ability, and organizational compatibility in the introduction stage of IT are relatively more important than those in the implementation stage of IT, whereas IT flexibility, system quality, training and support, overcoming organizational resistance and performance improvement in the implementation stage of IT play critical roles in the IS success. Our results show that the advance of IT may not guarantee the success of IT implementation.

Practical Evaluation of Intellectual Capital (IC) Measurement Tool for Contract Foodservice Management Company (위탁급식전문업체 지적자본 측정도구의 운용시험 평가)

  • The purposes of this study were to a) measure the IC identified of CFMC (contract foodservice management company) ,b) examine IC circumstance of CFMC, c) evaluate practically IC measurement tool of CFMC, and d) present information for selecting an adequate CFMC to clients. The questionnaires of IC measurement were handed out to 108 CFMCs, there composing of main office employees, foodservice managers, customers, and clients of 207 school,38 hospital, and 86 husiness/industry foodservices. The statistical data analysis was completed using SPSS Win (ver 12.0) for descriptive analysis, t-test, Mann-Whitney U test. First, CFMCs had operational experience for an average of 8 years and 8 months, and served an average of 38,540 meals a day. Most of the respondent companies specialized in the school foodservice field and managed an average of 66 clients for the contract period of 2 years and 3 months. Second, the respondent companies had gotten a score of 77.78 points for the total average, 77.7 points in the large enterprise group and 78.1 points in the small and medium-sized enterprise group. Therefore, the minimum number of points for the accrediting license on Qualification is suggested to be over 70 out of a 100 point scale; this study would be serve as reference for the certification license on qualification. On the level of evaluation category, the scores were 14.15 to 20 points on $\ulcorner$finance$\urcorner$, 19.24 to 25 points on $\ulcorner$customer$\urcorner$, 19.33 to 25 points on $\ulcorner$process$\urcorner$, 14.31 to 20 points on $\ulcorner$human resource$\urcorner$, and 8.6 to 10 point on $\ulcorner$renewal and development$\urcorner$ . $\ulcorner$Renewal and development$\urcorner$ and $\ulcorner$customer focus$\urcorner$ received better grades than other evaluation categories. Third, $\ulcorner$Finance$\urcorner$ indicated similar distribution overall. Small and medium-sized companies had lower grades than large companies on 'market ability' of $\ulcorner$customer$\urcorner$ , but, clients of small and medium-sized companies had higher grade for 'client satisfaction' than large companies. Most of the companies supported 'infrastructure support for foodservice operation' of $\ulcorner$process$\urcorner$ by the main office of CFMCs, but, the branch chain offices of CFMCs were not applied efficiently. Large companies made more effort to improve the 'employee ability' of $\ulcorner$human focus$\urcorner$ than small and medium-sized CFMC. The 'research and development cost' of $\ulcorner$renewal and development$\urcorner$ was increased compared to the previous year. In conclusion, if CFMCs were to perform self-evaluation and a routine checkups by utilizing CFMC's IC measuring tool, improvements in CFMC operational capacities as well as foodservice quality can be noted. Medium-Small and Venture Firm Size Distribution and Trade Welfare (중소벤처기업규모와 무역후생)

  • This study is an empirical analysis of the welfare of small and medium venture company trade. In the past, although the study analyzes the trade welfare for representative firm, this research is focusing on the distribution of an entire industry of companies analyzed. In this study, medium-to venture enterprise-scale for logarithmic normal distribution and Pareto distribution is estimated, and this study investigates the trading welfare changes. Results of the analysis can be summarized as follows. First of all, greater trade benefits enterprise-scale heterogeneity appeared to be significant. The result of this finding appeared to be the same to large firms as well as small and medium ventures. Trading welfare, assuming the distribution of Pareto rather than logarithmic normal distribution it's supposed to be overwhelmingly large. Secondly, the case of large corporations shows the more trade welfare than that of small and medium venture companies. Third, assuming homogeneous distribution of enterprise-scale trade welfare differences did not exist. Finally, from the point of view of increasing the welfare of trade, the diversity aiming of venture business is a very important role in the long term, because of the small and medium-sized ventures trade role.

The Effect of Technology based Small and Medium-sized Enterprise's Entrepreneurial Orientation, Organizational Culture and the Support of Technopark on the Innovation Performance (기술기반 중소기업의 기업가지향성, 조직문화, 거점기관의 지원이 혁신 성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study identifies interest and reasons for small- and medium-sized technological firms to increase their uses of Technopark for product innovation and development. To determine whether interest exists, a research model was built, based upon the innovative process that small and medium sized enterprises'experience when developing capabilities. The model was characterized by its entrepreneurial orientation, organizational culture and support of the Technopark. Small and medium-sized technological firms operating in Technopark were surveyed in the Fall of 2019. Responses were collected and analyzed using structural equation modeling. Among the findings: supporting greater uses of Technopark can impact a firm's performance positively by mediating new product development capabilities. Firms with relatively limited resources and capabilities are most likely to benefit from using regional innovation hubs such as Technopark to improve their innovative capabilities and performance. Government and Technopark need to develop and implement demand-based support programs, especially ones to focus on improving the innovation capabilities of technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises.

  • In a smart factory environment in a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) environment, sensors and actuators operating on actual manufacturing lines, programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to manage them, human-machine interface (HMI) to control and manage such PLCs, and consists of operational technology server to manage PLCs and HMI again. PLC and HMI, which are in charge of control automation, perform direct connection with OT servers, application systems for factory operation, robots for on-site automation, and production facilities, so the development of security technology in a smart factory environment is demanded. However, smart factories in the SME environment are often composed of systems that used to operate in closed environments in the past, so there exist a vulnerable part to security in the current environment where they operate in conjunction with the outside through the Internet. In order to achieve the internalization of smart factory security in this SME environment, it is necessary to establish a process according to the IEC 62443-4-1 Secure Product Development Life cycle at the stage of smart factory SW and HW development. In addition, it is necessary to introduce a suitable development methodology that considers IEC 62443-4-2 Component security requirements and IEC 62443-3 System security requirements. Therefore, this paper proposes an application plan for the IEC 62443 based development security process to provide security internalization to smart factories in an SME environment.

A Study on the Affecting Factors in Performance of Internal Leakage Prevention on Industrial Technology (산업기술의 내부 유출방지 성과에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구)

  • According to the statistics of the National Industrial Security Center under the National Intelligence Service, 209 national technologies have been leaked abroad in the past 5 years. Small and medium-sized enterprises and leakage by insiders accounted for 73% and 80% of them, respectively. This suggests that all the capabilities for preventing leakage of industrial technology should be focused on small and medium-sized enterprises and leakage by insiders. Related studies have been actively conducted on legal consideration of industrial technology leakage crimes, improvement of industrial security policies, and industrial security measures for preventing leakage of industrial technology, but adequate empirical studies have not been carried out on factors of leakage of industrial technology. In particular, there have been few studies on the effect of the experience of industrial technology leakage and enterprise scale(large enterprise, small and medium-sized enterprise) on achieving results in leakage prevention. Therefore, this study extracted factors affecting performance to prevent industrial technology leakage by analyzing previous related papers and to empirically analyze relationships with performance by applying the TAM model after classifying variables into the TOE framework by characterizing these properties.

An Effects of Succession Plan on Organizational Performance (중소기업의 승계 계획의 활용 정도가 조직성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The previous researches on the succession plan have the limitation that it has focused on policies or systems at the government level to facilitate succession, or is limited to family companies. In this study, we would like to analyze the effect of the actual utilization of the succession system for small and medium-sized enterprises rather than the succession by direct families or the government's policies. We would also like to identify other situational factors that may affect this relationship to better understand the succession plan and its relationship with organizational performance. To this end, the analysis of 172 small and medium-sized enterprises in the Human Capital Enterprise Panel showed that the more practical the succession plan of small and medium-sized enterprises is used, the more positive the organizational performance is. These results suggest that small and medium-sized enterprisess succession plan can have a positive impact on organizational performance, such as implicit transfer and formation of positive impressions of companies. Furthermore, cooperative industrial relations strengthened the degree of utilization of succession plans and the positive relationship with organizational performance. Such results showed that the more cooperative the labor-management relations are, the more the successor can secure legitimacy in the process of succession planning based on trust between labor and management.

  • Domestic industry calamity rate did decrease in large numbers by many efforts of the safety and health organizations. But that is low yet among the OECD countries. Calamities are started In most work inexperience and safety consciousness absence. So, we can know that education is how important. Domestic small and medium enterprises are in trend that industrial accident is increased by deterioration of hardware, not enough preparedness of safety equipments. But, the safety and health education had not been utilized so far effectively and applied systematically. Therefore, the most important among many means to reduce calamity is the safety and health education. An efficient education will supply suitable knowledge and technology to work people. And that will lead to prevent accident by building right habit and attitude. This research did the survey about problems of education that is enforced in small and medium enterprises. That survey is done to three groups of workers, administrators and managers. We compared domestic safety and health education system and advanced foreign system. And, analyzed problems and presented a solution. Finally, this research presented efficient operation model of the safety and health education suitable to domestic medium and small enterprises.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the success factor of Quality Management (QM) in the manufacturing conditions aspect of medium and small-sized sanitary enterprise. The requisite for manufacturing factors are classified into manufacturing human factors (the number of production employee, training and teaching, discuss on quality, manufacture expertness, etc.), manufacturing facility factors (coating, hardening, and molding equipment), manufacturing core component factors (temperature and viscosity, line, surface). And the indicator of quality outcomes are measured by reorder and recommendation to others.

  • In the Knowledge-based Economic Era, all of the enterprises are facing global competitive pressure. The activities of knowledge accessing, codifying, and application will obviously become the main inner function on enterprise operation. Knowledge will be the primary competitive advantage; therefore, he who wants to hold the competitive advantage should do the knowledge management (KM) very well. In this study, we construct the research dimensions and variances by the successful factors of KM, which had been practiced very well by big enterprises inside and outside our country, and which was recommended by the related scholars. In order to approach the differences between big enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) towards implementing KM, this study takes the way of questionnaire investigation to do empirical analysis and to construct the model of KM by path analysis. The study found out when implementing KM, SMEs should highlight 'leadership,' 'library-architecture,' and 'corporate culture' these three aspects, while 'information technology' and 'performance evaluation' these two aspects show no remarkable influence. It shows that he who wants to construct KM might not too overweight on information technology to build the KM system. Therefore, we suggest when implementing KM, enterprises should reinforce the corporate culture by sharing, organized KM process, learning environment for all employees, and highly authorization by top managers in order to reach the expectant success of KM. The result of this study offers practical thinking directions to reach the expectant success for the policy makers in SMEs, who are accessing to or evaluating to implement KM.
