On the Development of a Microwave Navigational Aid System Suitable for Small Fishing Boats (마이크로파를 이용한 소형어선용 선위측정방식 개발에 관한 연구)

  • A microwave Navigational Aid system is suggested suitable for fishing boats too small to be equipped with Radar or Radio-Direction-Finder. The system proposed here is similar to that of Talking-Beacon developed in Japan, but the distinctive modification proposed is that an increase of sixteen times in peak transmitting power, thus an accompanying increase of coverage, is achieved with the same mean transmitting power as that of Japan without sacrificing the clearness of azimuth information, by adopting a pulse repetition modulation instead of pulse width modulation as in Japan system. An experimental land station transmitter of transmitting frequency of 9, 370MHz and of peak power of 35kw with a microwave beam of 1 degree in horizontal width and 7 degrees in vertical width rotating once every three minutes, and also an experimental receiver of 20-dB in sensitivity and of an assumed cost of 100 dollars, operated by a 12 volts battery source are made, and the sail test results are reported showing that a bearing infromation of an accuracy of within two degrees can be obtainable every three minutes at a distance of as far as 24 miles from the transmitter if the transmitter is located as high as 100 meters above sea-level.

  • The sea-communication fishing equipment installed on small vessels such as offshore fishing vessels is highly dependent on foreign products due to its high dependence on foreign products. From the perspective of domestication, the development of localization at the overseas level is underway, and we intend to demonstrate it by creating a dedicated testbed in order to secure track records. In this paper, we wanted to derive the testbed shape and design method through basic research for the design of the testbed.

Tracking of an Individual Fish by Use of the Ultrasonic Tag (초음파표식에 의한 단체어의 행동 추적)

  • This paper described on the tracking of an individual fish at the fishing ground of set net by use of a small ultrasonic fish tag. The apparatuses used were composed with a tag, three receivers and two time-interval counter oscilloscope. A pulsed ultrasonic transmitter tag fitted to back of a dorsal fin of a yellowtail specimen, Seriola quinqueradidta TEMMINCK et SCHLEGEL is tracked by measuring differences in the time of arrival of the acoustic pulses at an arrangement of three receivers in the freeding tank. The successive positions of the fish were calculated from the differences in the received time of the signals. A fish carying the tag was tracked in the fishing ground of set net by use of the hydrophone and Loran-C. The results of the tests showed that this method gave good positional information to track the movement of an individual fish in the fishing ground of set net.

A Policy Direction of Vessel Buyback Program for Coastal and Offshore Fisheries in Korea (우리나라 연근해어선감척사업의 정책방향에 관한 연구)

  • The paper is to serve as a guide for deciding on a desirable direction for the vessel buyback program, reviewing their performance and economic effects from fish harvest reduction due to not reaching MSY. Compared with maximum willingness to pay for vessel buyback programs designed to avoid economic losses occurring as a result of overfishing, the portions of investment costs for buyback program are so small comparatively to the range of 0.32% to 12.19% at the annual base. The economic loss effects occurred in terms of the reduction of fishing harvest are comprehensively estimated at the present value of 30,877 billion won since 1971, and exceeded the revenues for fish harvests from 1999. In order to resole fish stocks through a vessel buyback program, this paper recommends that the yield should be reduced to less than the intrinsic growth rate. Otherwise, the buyback program policy eventually fails regardless of the temporal effect of benefits. This paper further argues that technical policy tools such as fishing grounds, fishing seasons, size of fish and minimum size of meshes should be effectively utilized.

  • The Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries have plaining the advancing fishery information integrated system for the fishing present condition, marine resource administration and applicability considering. The fishery information communication system is build up to the raw data & process-network-content. The communication system must be small size, low cost and adapted SSB transceiver, that is using fishery shipping. In this paper We present digital data communication network to exchange information for fishery and safety between fishing ship and coast station in cheeper communication fee using SSB in HF band.

  • Stainless steel has been stably used closed by passivity oxidation films(Cr₂O₃) is made by neutral atmospheric environment. However, passivity oxidaton films of the surface of stainless steel occasionally comes to be destroyed in seawater which is influenced by an environment having galogen ion like Cl‾, then, localization corrosion comes to occur Stainless steel 304 for shaft system material of the small-size FRP fishing boat on seawater environments made an experiment on simulation of sacrifical anode(Al, Zn). Through these experiment and study, following results have been obtained ; According to the field inspection and corrosion simulation, the corrosion on the 2nd class stainless steel shaft(STS304) in FRP fishing boat has been verified to occur by crevice corrosion and galvanic corrosion etc., According to the comparison and analysis of Stainless steel 304 was severely corroded, but, protected shaft specimen was not totallay corroded. This result is assumed to be made by the facts that anodic reaction, Fe → fe²++ 2e¯, has been restricted by the cathodic protection current of sacrificial anode material.

  • For the improvement of the traditional pots which is using purple spirals for fishing webfoot octopus, Octopus Ocellatus GRAY, some experiments are carried out on the color preference in water tank and also operated practical experiment with PVC pots at sea for the comparison on the basis of the above water tank experiment. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The colors which webfoot octopus prefer in water tank or at sea are gray, red and green in order. 2. The catching efficiency of the pots with small spout(dia. 40mm) is better than that of large spout(dia. 50mm). 3. The results of fishing efficiency between PVC pots and purple spirals are shown almost same tendency.

Fishing investigation with trammel nets by mesh size in the Korean deep-water of the East Sea (삼중자망에 의한 동해 심해 수산자원의 망목별 어획특성)

  • The investigation for species composition and catch in the Korean deep-water of the East Sea (also known as Sea of Japan) was carried out with trammel nets of 7 mesh sizes (6.1~24.2cm) offshore Donghae (2006) and Yangyang (2007) of Korea. The catches were 1,268kg and composed of 37 species between 200m and 1,200m in depth. The principal species caught were Taknka's snailfish, salmon snailfish, red snow crab, hunchback sculpin, snow crab, spinyhead sculpin, Tanaka's eelpout, Alaska cod and so on. Those were target fish for commercial value except salmon snailfish. The mesh sizes for the largest catch were 10.6cm and 15.2cm in the fishing ground of Donghae and Yangyang, respectively. The habitat of snow crab was shallower than that of red snow crab in both areas. Trammel net enabled to investigate fish in deep-water with small fishing vessel and rather cheap expenses in contrast to bottom trawl that required too much of it. With increasing inner mesh size of trammel net the mean size of some principal species such as Taknka's snailfish, spinyhead sculpin, hunchback sculpin, Pacific cod, snow crab, red snow crab and hybrid between snow crab and red snow crab tended to be large in certain range of mesh size.

  • Recently fishing industry is interested in efficient and automated fishing implementations to reach the level of the international leading technology. One of the important device used in fishing boat is an automated electric compass that harnesses the GPS and terrestrial magnetic sensor. The electric compass is desired to be minimized in size while keeping a high effectiveness in the characteristic of a magnetic compass. This device also can be used as a heading angle sensor to construct auto-navigation system in a small size of ships. However, there exists measurement errors induced from the slope of terrestrial magnetic sensor caused by the motion of boat. In this paper, a method has been proposed removing the measurement error arising from the slope of terrestrial magnetic sensor when the ship is in motion. We have designed a sensor with two DOF(degree of freedom) and a weight to maintain the horizontality of the sensor. Through this research, the hardware has been designed and also a test has been performed. The test shows a promissory result.
