매립지 침출수 처리의 고율 혐기성 처리 (High-rate Anaerobic Treatment of Landfill Leachate)

  • 상향류 혐기성 블랭킷 반응조를 이용한 매립지 침출수 처리시 입상슬러지 첨가 유무에 상관없이 성공적인 처리가 가능하였다. 입상슬러지의 첨가는 초기 운전기간를 현저히 단축할 수 있었다. 수리학적 체류시간 1일과 $4-8kgCOD/m^3.d$ 의 유기물 부하율에서 Control 반응조와 Granule 반응조의 COD 제거율은 90% 이상을 유지하였다. 실험기간 동안 입상슬러지 첨가 유무에 상관없이 슬러지 표면과 반응조 벽면에 무기 침전물이 축적되었다. 비메탄 활성도는 미생물의 기질에 대한 적응도와 유기물 부하량이 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. Granule 반응조의 최대 비메탄 활성도의 값은 $0.57gCOD/g{\cdot}VSS{\cdot}.d$로 나타났다. 비록 본 연구에서는 과도한 무기물 축적으로 인한 비메탄 활성도의 저감은 발생하지 않았으나 무기물의 제거를 위하여 유입수의 전처리 공정이 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

생물학적 수처리에 있어서 미생물 탈수소효소 활성도 측정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Measurement of Microbial Dehyrogenase Activity in Biological Treatment)

  • The assay on microbial dehydrogenase activity by using TTC was investigated. The experimental results are summarized as follows: 1. The TF production was affected by dissolved oxygen. Dissolved oxygen in samples could be effectively removed by adding $Na_{2}SO_{3}$ as reductant prior to incubation. 2. The toxic effect on TF formation was observed at up to 0.1% of final TTC concentration when VSS concentration was 2.7g/l. As the VSS concentration increased the effect decreased. 3. It was clearly revealed that the TF generation rate decreased with increasing VSS concentration. The dilution of sludge could be applicable when VSS level is below 3.5g/l. 4. The TF production of endogenous phase (De) could be used as a measure for the viable fraction of sludge over various sludge ages. The additional TF production (Ds) due to extracellular substrate responded to De, not to VSS concentration.

생물학적 하·폐수처리 공정에서 생물촉진제 첨가의 영향 (Effects of Bio-stimulant Addition on Biological Wastewater Treatment Processes)

  • The enzyme Xeronine was investigated as a microbial activating substance in biological wastewater treatment processes. Xeronine as bio-stimulant was injected in the anaerobic sludge and the activated sludge treating wastewater in order to examine the effect of hidden benefits. Bio-stimulant did not show significant improvement of anaerobic treatablity. In the aerobic system, higher bio-stimulant dose condition resulted in slightly more removal of nitrogen and phosphorus. Floc aggregation and zone settling velocity as solid-liquid separation factors in activated sludge systems was enhanced by bio-stimulant. Effects of bio-stimulants injection on improvement of water quality and microbial activity did not clear in terms of normal operation conditions.

적응기질 종류에 따른 혐기성 슬러지의 탈질속도 (The Influence of Different Adaptation Substrates on Denitrification Rate of the Anaerobic Sludge)

  • 본 연구에서는 혐기성 슬러지의 적응 기질에 따른 탈질능력을 관찰하고자 탄소기질로서 포도당 이외에 기질등을 사용하여 탈질 및 메탄반응의 변화 및 SDNR(Specific Denitrification Rate) 등을 관찰하였다. 순수 메탄생성 슬러지에서 아세테이트를 사용하였을 경우, SMA 값은 $0.76gCOD/g{\cdot}VSS{\cdot}day$로 가장 높았고, SDNR 측정결과 탈질균의 비율이 상대적으로 높은 C/N 비 5에 적응된 슬러지에서 아세테이트를 탄소기질로 사용하였을 경우에 가장 높은 $1.38g{\cdot}NO_3{^-}N/g{\cdot}VSS{\cdot}day$이었다. 혐기성 탈질반응 및 메탄 생성반응은 탄소기질 및 슬러지의 종류에 따라 영향을 받았고, C/N 비 5에 적응된 슬러지에서 다른 탄소기질보다 아세테이트를 사용하였을 경우에 탈질반응상수 값은 $1.96hr^{-1}$로 가장 높았다. 다양한 탄소기질에 적응된 혐기성 슬러지에 포도당을 전자공여체로 이용하여 비탈질속도(SDNR)를 측정한 결과 포도당, 축산폐수, 아세테이트 기질에 적응된 슬러지 순으로 나타났다. 탄소기질에 대한 미생물의 적응여부와 혐기성 소화공정 각 단계에서 성장하는 미생물군(bio-community)의 상호공생관계가 탈질 속도를 향상시킬 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

SHARON/ANAMMOX 결합공정에서 슬러지의 입상화와 특성 (Granulation and Characteristics of Sludges in the Combined SHARON/ANAMMOX Processes)

  • The combined SHARON (Single reactor system for High ammonium Removal Over Nitrite)-ANAMMOX (Anaerobic ammonium oxidation) reactor were operated in mesophilic condition ($35^{\circ}C$). In this study, microbial granulation and characteristics of SHARON and ANAMMOX sludges were investigated using settling test, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH). In SHARON reactor, Aerobic granulation with diameter of 1.5~2.5 mm was accomplished but aerobic granulation was weaker than anaerobic granular sludge. Initial seed sludge of ANAMMOX reactor was used as attached media for biofilm growth. ANAMMOX sludge was more compact and rounder rather than seed sludge. Though ANAMMOX sludge has high activity, it has lower settling ability than the seed granule. The color of ANAMMOX sludge was changed from dark to redish brown granular with diameter of 1~2 mm. In FISH of ANAMMOX sludge, high fraction of Candidatus B. stuttgartiensis which paid great role of nitrogen conversion was detected. Also, FISH results reveals that ANAMMOX bacteria inhabit at inner parts near surface, having advantages in utilization of substrates and protection from oxygen inhibition.

Tubular형 막을 이용한 활성슬러지법에 있어서 여과특성에 미치는 인자에 관한 연구 (A Study on Characteristic Factors of Tubular Membranes in a Membrane coupled Activated Sludge Process)

  • We elucidated factors such as membrane pore size, activity of the activated sludge and MLSS. affecting filtering characteristics or filtering resistance in an activated sludge bio-process using tubular type membranes. We used a commercial membrane module with $0.5m^2$ of effective membrane area and a bundle of 7 tubes(13mm of ID and 2m long) in the experiments. As a result, the flux was maintained in the range of $35{\sim}105l/m^2$ hr at 5,000~20,000mg/l of MLSS concentration, and there seemed to be a correlation between the flux and the MLSS. Also the greater the pores were, the higher the flux was in some comparison experiments using UF and MF membranes, but the water permeated through both of the membranes showed almost the same quality. However, the MF membrane showed a great reduction in filtering resistance initially, but went back to a stable stage afterwards. The activity of the activated sludge in the aeration tank was also found to be considered as a factor showing permeation characteristics of the membrane.

지렁이에서 추출한 Acetylcholinesterase, Cytochrome P450, and Heat Shock protein 70을 이용한 유기성슬러지 독성 평가 (The Assessment of Toxicity on organic Sludge Using Acetylcholinesterase, Cytochrome P450, and Hsp70 Extracted from Earthworm (Eisenia fetida))

  • 4 종류의 폐기물(생활하수오니, 공단하수오니, 피혁오니, 주정오니)과 대조구로서 돈분퇴비가 지렁이에게 미치는 독성을 평가하기 위하여 대표적인 유해성 평가 biomarker 3종류 (acetylcholinesterase, cytochrome $P_{450}$, heat shock protein 70)를 사용하였다. 유기성 폐기물에 대한 acetylcholinesterase의 활성은 돈분퇴비의 경우 활성이 약간 촉진된 반면 생활하수오니, 공단하수오니, 피혁오니, 주정오니는 영향을 미치지 않았다. Cytochrome $P_{450}$의 활성은 공단하수오니와 피혁오니는 활성을 억제하였고 생활하수오니, 주정오니, 돈분퇴비는 영향을 미치지 않았다. 또한 Hsp70의 발현량은 증류수보다 돈분퇴비는 1.9배, 주정오니는 3.0배, 생활하수오니는 3.3배, 공단오니는 4.4배, 피혁오니는 4.7배 순으로 지렁이 (Eisenia fetida)에게 스트레스를 많이 주었다. 이상의 결과로부터, 4 종류의 폐기물(생활하수오니, 공단하수오니, 피혁오니, 주정오니)은 돈분퇴비보다 독성이 강한 것으로 판단하였다. 또한 AChE, Cytochrome $P_{450}$과 Hsp70은 추후 유기성 폐기물의 유해성을 모니터링하기에 적합한 biomarker로서 가치가 있다고 생각한다.

산업공정의 폐수처리에서 발생된 폐활성슬러지 및 인공음식폐기물을 이용한 생물학적 수소생성에 관한 연구 (Study on Bio-H2 Production from Synthetic Food Waste and Activated Sludge from Industrial Waste Water Processes using Dark-fermentation)

  • This study performed to extract operation factors of major organic wastes, which were food wastes and waste activated sludge generated in industries in order to use them as a substrate for bio-H2 production. According to the results of experimental analysis for hydrogen production capacity by various organic concentrations, the hydrogen production yield was the highest at 80 g/L, and the efficiency was improved by the pretreatment of waste activated sludge (acid treatment, alkali treatment). Hydrogen production efficiency was improved by mixing food wastes and waste activated sludge if waste activated sludge was below than 30%, however, it was decreased when it was more than 50%. The impacts of heavy metals on the hydrogen production shows that the inhibition level depends on the concentration of Cr, Zn, and Cu, Fe was able to enhance the hydrogen production.

PHYSICOCHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF UASB GRANULAR SLUDGE WITH DIFFERENT SIZE DISTRIBUTIONS

  • Upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) system employs granular sludge to treat various wastewaters including landfill leachate. CH$_4$ production of the granules determines overall performance of a UASB reactor. Sludge granules are developed by self-granulation of microorganisms and dynamic balance between granule growth and decay results in coexistence of granules with different sizes in the reactor. In this study, granules taken from a laboratory-scale UASB reactor were classified into 4 groups based on their diameters and their Physicochemical characteristics we were investigated. Each group was analyzed for settling ability, specific methanogenic activity (SMA), and elemental content. Settling ability was proportional to granule diameter. suggesting effective detainment of larger granules in the reactor. When acetate or glucose was used as a substrate, all groups showed relatively slight difference in SMA. However SMA with a volatile fatty acid mixture showed significant increase with granule diameter, suggesting better establishment of syntrophic relationship in larger granules. Larger granules showed higher value of SMA upon environmental changes (i.e., PH, temperature, or toxicant concentration). Comparative analysis of elemental contents showed that content (dry weight %) of most tested elements (iron, calcium, phosphorus, zinc, nickel. and manganese) deceased with granule diameter, suggesting importance of these elements for initial granulation. Taken together, this study verified experimentally that Physicochemical Properties of granules are related to granule size distributions. Overall results of physicochemical characterization supports that larger.

  • 높은 유기성분을 가지고 있으나 주로 매립에 의존하고 있는 맥주폐수 슬러지와 분뇨처리슬러지의 재자원화를 위한 이들 혼합물의 퇴비화에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 분뇨슬러지와 맥주폐수 슬러지의 적정 혼합비는 1:1로 나타났으며 초기 시료의 pH는 퇴비내 미생물의 활동을 위한 온도상승에 큰 영향을 미치지 않았다. 또한 혼합비가 1:1인 시료의 퇴비화시 C/N 비는 10-15를 유지하여 약간 낮게 나타났으나 pH의 상승없이 퇴비화가 잘 이루어짐을 알 수 있었고 주 1회 뒤집기를 수행하는 것이 가장 효율적인 것으로 나타났다.
