  • In this paper, the group velocity dispersion curves of the $S_o$ symmetric mode in unidirectional CFRP plate was calculated as varying the propagating direction. The group velocity curve was obtained with the group velocities of the $S_o$ symmetric mode corresponding to 0.2 MHz-mm under the first cut-off frequency in the dispersion curves, and corrected by introducing the slowness curve. The velocities of the $S_o$ symmetric mode in the unidirectional CFRP plate were measured as varying the propagating direction and compared with the col?rotted group velocity curve. The measured velocities were good agreement with the corrected group velocity curve except near the fiber direction which was called the cusp region. It implies that the direction of the group velocities incline toward the fiber direction of the unidirectional CFRP plates when the propagation direction is not accorded with the principal axis. It is supposed that this phenomenon rerults from the preferential propagating the energy toward the direction with the faster propagation velocity.

  • As a study of efficient velocity analysis in sonic log, several preexisting techniques have been adopted to the sonic data taken from model borehole in Kangwon National University, and the results were compared. For the data taken from monopole source, Slowness-Time Coherence method which is a common technique for nondispersive wave was used. For the data taken from dipole source, conventional STC and Tang's method(Tang et al., 1995) were used. From the good matches in the P and Stoneley wave velocities, we could confirm the effectiveness of STC computation. We also could find that shear velocity obtained from Tang's method were exactly matched with shear velocity obtained from monopole source, and that the velocity were within the range of S wave velocity values obtained from conventional STC application to dispersive flexural waves.

  • Slowness time coherence (STC) technique has been applied to 3-receiver slim hole sonic log using 3 NX sized concrete model holes of different physical properties. We analyzed the effects of different source center frequencies on the wave forms, their amplitude spectra, and their STC results. We could determine the sonic velocity of each mode accurately by the application of STC method with the semblance projection and efficient selection of center frequency. Theoretical model and experimental model hole studies indicate that 4-receiver condition is the most ideal for STC in near surface slim hole sonic log. The result also indicates that favorable STC result can be obtained from three-receiver sonic log provided with the help of the first arrival picking method.

  • Accurate diagnosis of movement disorders is important for providing right patient care at right time. In general, assessment of motor impairment relies on clinical ratings conducted by experienced clinicians. However, this may introduce subjective opinions into scoring the severity of motor impairment. Digital devices such as table PC and smart band with accelerometer can be used for more accurate and objective assessment and possibly helpful for clinicians to make right decision of patient's states. In this study, we introduce quantification algorithms of motor impairment which uses the digital data acquired during four clinical motor tests (Line drawing, Spiral drawing, Nose to finger and Hand flip tests). The step by step procedure of quantifying metrics (Tremor Frequency, Tremor Magnitude, Error Distance, Time, Velocity, Count and Period) are provided with flowchart. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is presented with the result from simulated data (normal, normal with tremor and slowness, poor with tremor, poor with tremor and slowness).

  • One of the hardest problems that limit real application of production system is its slowness. One way to overcome this problem is to speed up the matching operation which occupies more than 90% of the total execution time. In this paper, we try to speed up the matching operation with parallel execution of a typical pattern matching algorithm, RETE, in a multiprocessor environment, This requires not only to make partitions of the rules but also to allocate the partitioned rules to processors, respectively. A partition strategy is proposed to make groups of similar rules by evaluating the similarity of rules according to the number of common conditions between rules. An allocation strategy is proposed to make the load of each processor even by assigning the different priority to the group of rules according to the expected amount of time required for matching operation. To compare with the existing methods, we perform simulation using OPS5 sample programs. The simulation results show that the proposed methods can improve the performance of production system.

  • General source location method that use an arrival time differences among sensors is restricted to the composite material and the complex-shaped material. In this study, a bundle-type acoustic sensor composed of 6 pinducers was utilized to determine wave propagation direction and then to estimate source location of the unidirectional GFRP. For the purpose of the study, slowness curve for the material was obtained and made an assumption that the incident waves on pinducers are propagated as a plane wave. According to the results, measured propagation directions of the wave were coincide with theoretical background, however, it was a hassle to determine the source location exactly. But, it is expected that bundle-type sensor gives more accurate results for zone location than generally used acoustic sensors.

  • In displaying a virtual wall using a passive haptic device equipped with passive actuators such as electric brakes, unsmooth motion frequently occurs. This undesirable behavior is attributed to time delay due to slowness in the virtual environment update and force approximation due to the inability of a brake to generate torque in arbitrary directions. In this paper a new control scheme called direct control is proposed to achieve smooth display on the wall-following task with a passive haptic device. In direct control, brakes are controlled so that the normal component of a resultant force at the end-effector vanishes, based on the force analysis at the end-effector of the passive haptic device using the passive FME (Force Manipulability Ellipsoid). Various experiments have been conducted to verify the validity of the direct control scheme with a 2-link passive haptic system.

  • Simulated annealing (SA) is a very promising general purpose algorithm which can be conveniently utilized for various complicated combinatorial optimization problems. But its slowness has been pointed as a major drawback. In this paper, we propose an accelerated SA and test its performance experimentally by applying it for two standard combinatorial optimization problems (TSP(Travelling Salesman Problem) and GPP(Graph Partitioning Problem) of various sizes. It turns out that performance of the proposed method is consistently better both in convergenge speed and the quality of solution than the conventional SA or SE (Stochastic Evolution). In the second part of the paper we apply the accelerated SA to solve the virtual path management problem encountered in ATM netowrks. The problem is modeled as a combinatorial optimization problem to optimize the utilizy of links and an efficient SA implementation scheme is proposed. Two application examples are given to demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm.

  • Ageing induces huge dramatic change of society and economy rather than simple change of population structure. Ageing causes the decrease of working age population and production capable population, thus this brings growth slowness and long-term stagnation. In addition, progress in ageing decreases saving rate, consequently low saving rate brings about the decrease of country-wide investment resources. This ageing problem which is progressive rapidly needs core competence and implementation of human resource professionals to overcome this kind of environment change. First of all, it needs turnover in thinking way toward talents. Secondly, we need innovation one team to pursue innovation and creativity. Thirdly, it should be considered in a new way with the number of workers and efficiency of personnel expenses. Fourthly, employees should make effort for self-advancement. Under the environment with newly change human resource personnels' function and role should be emphasized to maintain sustainable growth and overcome the change of management environment. Therefore, human resources should be emphasized to become competitive personnel and organization with leading the change master and creating the value of the organization.

  • Genetic algorithms were described as a method of solving large-scaled optimization problems with complex constraints. It has overcome their slowness, a major drawback of genetic algorithms using hardware implementation of genetic algorithm processor (GAP). In this study, we proposed GAP effectively connecting the goodness of survival-based GA, steady-state GA, tournament selection. Using Pipeline Parallel processing, handshaking protocol effectively, the proposed GAP exhibits 50% speed-up over survival-based GA which runs one million crossovers per second(1MHz). It will be used for high speed processing such of central processor of EHW, robot control and many optimization problem.
