  • The time distribution of rainfall is one of the most important considerations for evaluating soil slope stability. In order to study the rainfall-induced slope failure, the rainfall pattern has generally been assumed as uniform rainfall intensity for rainfall duration. However, it should be noted that the time distribution of the design rainfall method has a significant effect on the soil slope instability. The study implemented Mononobe, Huff, and uniform method as three types of time distribution method of the design rainfall to estimate the factor of safety of soil slopes by rainfall duration. As a result, the difference of soil suction and unsaturated hydraulic properties in a soil by rainfall pattern was found through the application of an appropriate time distribution method to numerical simulation for rainfall-induced slope stability.

  • The Latent Growth Modeling(LGM) is known as the arising analysis method of longitudinal data and it could be classified into unconditional model and conditional model. Unconditional model requires estimated value of intercept and slope to complete a model of fitness. However, the existing LGM is in absence of a structured methodology to estimate slope when longitudinal data is neither simple linear function nor the pre-defined function. This study used Sequential Pattern of Association Rule Mining to calculate slope of unconditional model. The applied dataset is 'the Youth Panel 2001-2006' from Korea Employment Information Service. The proposed methodology was able to identify increasing fitness of the model comparing to the existing simple linear function and visualizing process of slope estimation.

  • The pattern of domestic slope construction has been steadily changed from the simpled and small-scale to the large-scale and complicated one, frequently near the existing structures, as the density of population and the traffic increases. In some cases, the slopes become steeper and larger due to the road improvement and construction. For the rock slope, the existence of discontinuity cannot be disregarded and acts as an important factor on the slope stability. Most of the existing methods for stabilizing the slope were focused on reducing the slope angle. Under the specific geographic condition, it is necessary to concentrate more efforts on the research and development of supporting system for the slope stability. As a supporting system, it is often very advantageous to use the FRP pipe grouting method that is similar to the existing soil nailing method or the rock bolting method but uses the high strength FRP pipe as a principal reinforcement in place of steel bar. Through the FRP pipe, the grout material can be injected into the rock mass to improve its shear strength to the required value. .In this study, the characteristics of FRP are investigated by the laboratory tests and the field tests. And, the practical aspects of FRP method are reviewed and analyzed.

  • The pixel information of the object was obtained sequentially and pixels were clustered to a label by the line labeling method. Feature points were determined by finding the slope for edge pixels after selecting the fixed number of edge pixels. The slope was estimated by the least square method to reduce the detection error. Once a matching point was determined by comparing the feature information of the object and the pattern, the parameters for translation, scaling and rotation were obtained by selecting the longer line of the two which passed through the matching point from left and right sides. Finally, modified Hausdorff Distance has been used to identify the similarity between the object and the given pattern. The multi-label method was developed for recognizing the patterns with more than one label, which performs the modified Hausdorff Distance twice. Experiments have been performed to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm and method for simple target image, complex target image, simple pattern, and complex pattern as well as the partially hidden object. It was proved via experiments that the proposed image matching algorithm for recognizing the object had a good performance of matching.

  • This study focuses on the enhancement of maskless photolithography as well as the peptide synthesis application with single crystalline silicon micromirrors. A single crystalline silicon micromirror array has been designed and fabricated in order to improve its application to the peptide synthesis. A micromirror rotates about ${\pm}\;9^{\circ}$ at the pull-in voltage, which can range from 90.7 V to 115.1 V. A $210\;{\mu}m-by-210\;{\mu}m$ micromirror device with $270\;{\mu}m$ mirror pitch meets the requirements of an adequately precise separation for peptide synthesis. Synthetic 16 by 16 peptide array corresponds to the same number of micromirrors. The large size of peptide pattern and the separation facilitate biochip experiments using fluorescence assay. The peptide pattern has been synthesized on the GPTS-PEG200 surface with BSA-blocking and thereupon the background was acetylated to reject non-specific bindings. Hence, an averaged slope at the pattern edge has been distinguishably improved in comparison to patterning results from an aluminum micromirror.

  • A variety of learning methods are used for neural networks. Among them, the backpropagation algorithm is most widely used in such image processing, speech recognition, and pattern recognition. Despite its popularity for these application, its main problem is associated with the running time, namely, too much time is spent for the learning. This paper suggests a method which maximize the convergence speed of the learning. Such reduction in e learning time of the backpropagation algorithm is possible through an adaptive adjusting of the slope of the activation function depending on total errors, which is named as the variable slope algorithm. Moreover experimental results using this variable slope algorithm is compared against conventional backpropagation algorithm and other variations; which shows an improvement in the performance over pervious algorithms.

  • To understand the basic relationship between 3D curved surface model and 2D pattern, simplified torso model was generated by commercial CAD program (IDEAS). 3D torso model was then divided into different blocks and unfolded into a flat pattern as in ordinary works of clothing item design. As results, 2D pattern development of different part of 3D torso model was attempted and analyzed mathematically. It was found that different height, radius and tangent slope of 3D blocks resulted in different 2D pattern. The relationships between the shape parameters of 3D torso blocks and those of 2D patterns were analyzed using regression equations. Direct way of drawing a 2D pattern of corresponding 3D torso block was also illustrated for the convenience of pattern making using conventional measurements of upper/ lower radii and height of 3D torso block.
