  • Present study was investigated the effect of the particle of the counterface of unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced composite. The friction coefficient of composite and the specific wear rate different sliding velocity were measured for this materials. The friction track of counterface was observed by an optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. There were insignificant effects of the specific wear rate under lower Sic abrasive particle, however it showed high effect on $30{\mu}m$ abrasive particle size. There were significant effects of friction and wear behavior of the fiber direction under 0.3m/s sliding speed. Major failure mechanisms can be classified such as microfracture, plowing, microcutting, cutting and cracking.

  • Miscentering in the left and right X axis direction during CT examination affects dose and quality. When the CT Gantry Isocenter and the center of the examination objective are matched using the Lateral Sliding Table, the image quality is improved and the exposure dose is reduced. CTDI Head Phantom (Kimda, Korea) and dosimeter (Ray Safe, Sweden) were used to measure dose comparison CTDI (mGy) due to center deviation, and Water Phantom (HITACHI, Japan) was used to measure noise to see the difference in uniformity due to center deviation. Measurements of doses for dose comparison CTDI (mGy) with a deviation showed that doses were consistently reduced and exact dose was not projected until they were moved to 80 mm by 20 mm from the Isocenter. SD values were measured to see the difference in uniformity due to center deviation and the noise continued to increase until it was moved by 20 mm to 80 mm. The range of collimation has increased by the extent of deviating from the center and the range of exposure has increased. Using the Lateral Sliding Table, you can easily adjust the Isocenter, increase the quality of the image by adjusting the Isocenter in areaa such as the cardiac examination of the location away from the Isocenter, Extreme bone and Shoulder, and greatly reduce the collimation to the Isocenter, so it can be used to reduce unnecessary exposure dose.

  • This is the study on dry sliding wear behavior of unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced epoxy matrix composite at ambient temperature. The wear rates and friction coefficients against the stainless steel counterpart specularly processed were experimentally determined and the resulting wear mechanisms were microscopically observed. Three principal sliding directions relative to the dominant fiber orientation in the composite wear selected. When sliding took place against smooth and hard counterpart, the highest were resistance and the lowest friction coefficient were observed in the antiparallel direction. When the velocity between the composite and the counterpart went up, the wear rate increased. The fiber destruction and cracking caused fiber bending on the contact surface, which was discovered to be dominant wear mechanism.

  • Strength and displacement of jig body in index machine utilized for multiprocess machining such as drilling, boring and tapping, etc, at the same time were analyzed by the use of finite element analysis soft ware ANSYS 5.2A. The whole geometry was constructed by 4048 elements and 7016 nodes employing 8 node brick element. The analyses were carried out on five loading cases combining vertical and horizontal machining to simulate the case occurring large displacement and the one occurring small displacement one and provided following conclusions. (1) Jig body had sufficient strength because its safety factor was 6.95 even in the most severe loading case. (2) The largest displacement in Z direction was 549 m and that in radial direction was 43.7 m. (3) In order to reduce the displacement, vertical machining rather than horizontal or two or three processes should be adopted in the same station. (4) Alternate change of horizontal machining direction at consecutive stations can reduce the displace ment. (5) The dimension of the slider should be increased to reduce the displacement by the tolerance in the sliding part. (6) A bypass idle piston head needs to be installed to give a counterpart supporting load from opposite direction for a single horizontal machining case.

  • In this study, the effect of Carbon/PEEK composites on the tribological properties has been investigated. Also, its validity has been tested in the capacity of alternative materials of the Ti-based materials used for artificial hip joint. Moreover, this work evaluated the mechanical properties according to the fiber ply orientation, along with the fractured surfaces of the carbon/PEEK composites. The composites with a unidirectional orientation had higher tribological properties than those with a multidirectional orientation. This was caused by the debonding between the carbon fiber and the PEEK, which was proportional to the contact area between the sliding surface and the carbon fiber. The friction test results showed that there were no significant differences in relation to the fiber ply orientation. However, the friction properties of the carbon/PEEK composites were higher than those of the carbon/epoxy composites. In addition, the results showed that a composite that slid in a direction normal to the prepreg lay-up direction had a smaller friction coefficient than one that slid in a direction parallel to the prepreg lay-up direction.

  • Terzaghi proposed a 2D formula for arching based on the assumption of a vertical sliding surface induced in the upper part due to the downward movement of a trapdoor. The formula was later expanded to consider 3D tunnel excavation conditions under inclined sliding surfaces. This study further extends the expanded formula to consider the effects of different ground properties and inclined sliding conditions in the transverse and longitudinal directions considering anisotropic ground conditions, as well as 3D tunnel excavation conditions. The 3D formula proposed in this study was examined of the induced vertical stress under various conditions (ground property, inclined sliding surface, excavation condition, surcharge pressure, earth pressure coefficient) and compared with the 2D Terzaghi formula. The examination indicated that the induced vertical stress increased as the excavation width and length increased, the inclination angle increased, the cohesion and friction angle decreased, the earth pressure coefficient decreased, and the surcharge pressure increased. Under the conditions examined, the stress was more affected at low excavation lengths and by the ground properties in the transverse direction. In addition, The comparison with the 2D Terzaghi formula showed that the induced vertical stress was lower and the difference was highly affected by the ground properties, inclined sliding conditions, and 3D tunnel excavation conditions. The proposed 3D arching formula could help to provide better understanding of complex arching phenomena in tunnel construction.

  • Leaf type foil bearings have been used successfully in many aerospace applications such as air cycle machines, turbocompressors and turboexpander. These applications are characterized by light loads, constant speeds and low to moderate temperatures. But, as system on start-up or shutdown, sliding contact between the shaft and foil surfaces cause wear. So, in present study, to understand pressure-flow characteristics and deformation of foil bearing, flow/structure interaction analysis was used. and using this method, 2D and 3D calculation was peformed for shape of foil bearing to know circumferential direction flow and leakage flow characteristics of axial direction.

  • Insulators for high-voltage and large-power should be endured mechanically the weight of mold bushing itself and the force of pushed from contact with circuit breaker and conductor. But dielectric breakdown could be occurred result from the external circumstances and internal factors such as chemical reaction, partial discharge, change of temperature and the relation of temperature-time in process of casting. Therefore, to get rid of external and internal factors of dielectric breakdown. Furthermore, to prevent the internal cracks, void, cavity which resulted from the contraction originated on the interface between copper and epoxy resin, formed semi-conductive layer with partially carbon painted on copper bar. The PD properties and the insulation qualities of epoxy molded insulators were improved by roles of cushions for the direction of diameter and natural sliding effects as like separated from conductor for the direction of length.

  • This research deals with the non-linearities associated with impact and sliding for the rocking behavior of rigid block subjected to two dimensional excitation of horizontal and vertical direction. The non-linearities examined of impact between block and base: The transition of two governing rocking equations, the abrupt reduction in kinetic energy associated with impact. In this study, the rocking vibration system of two types are considered for several friction condition. One is the undamped rocking vibration system, disregarding energy dissipation at impact and the other is the damped rocking system, including energy dissipation at impact. The response analysis by non-dimensional rocking equation is carried out for the change of excitation amplitude. The chaos responses were discovered in the wide response region, particularly, in the case of high vertical excitation and their chaos characteristics are examined by Poincare map, power spectra and Lyapunov Exponent. The complex behavior of chaos response, in the phase space, were illustrated by Poincare map. Therefore, Poincare map will be a significant material in order to understand chaos of rocking system.

  • It is well known that the geometry of the articular surface has a major role in determining the position of articular contact and the lines of action for the contact forces. The contact force calculation of the knee joint under the effect of sliding and rolling is one of the most challenging issues in this field. We present a 3-D human knee joint model including sliding and rolling motions and major ligaments to calculate the lateral and medial condyle contact forces from the recovered total internal reaction force using inverse dynamic contact modeling and the Least-Square method. As results, it is believed that the patella, muscles and tendon affect a lot for the internal reaction forces at the initial heel contact stage. With increasing flexion angles during gait, the decreasing contact area is progressively shifted to the posterior direction on the tibia plateau. In addition, the medial side contact force is larger than the lateral side contact force in the knee joint during normal human walking. The total internal forces of the knee joint are reasonable compared to previous studies.
