In this paper, an analytic model of sleep model operation in the IEEE 802.16e is investigated. A mobile subscribe. station (MSS) goes to sleep mode after negotiations with the base station (BS) and wakes up periodically for a short interval to check whether there is downlink traffic to it. If the arrival of traffic is notified, an MSS returns to wake mode. Otherwise, it again enters increased sleep interval which is double as the previous one. In order to consider the situation more practically, we propose the sleep mode starting threshold, during which MSS should await packets before it enters the sleep mode. By modifying the M/G/1 with multiple vacations model, energy consumption ratio(ECR) and average packet response time are calculated. Our analytic model provides potential guidance in determining the optimal parameters values such as sleep mode starting threshold, minimal sleep and maximal sleep window.
There is a problem to measure neutral bio-signals during sleep because of inconvenience of attaching lots of sensors. In this study, we measured single electrocardiogram(ECG) signal and analyzed the correlation with sleep. After R-peak detection from ECG signal, we extracted 9 features from time and frequency domain of heart rate variability(HRV). Mean of HRV, RR intervals differing more than 50ms(NN50), and divided by the total number of all RR intervals(pNN50) have significant differences in each sleep stage. Specially, the mean HRV has an average of 87.8% accuracy in classifying sleep and awake status. In the future, the measurement ECG signal minimizes inconvenience of attaching sensors during sleep. Also, it can be substituted for the standard sleep measurement method.
Objectives : In this study, the dental treatment satisfaction degree of the patients, who experienced the sleep dental treatment or non-sleep dental treatment, the revisit rate and the differences among the encouraging intention were compared and analyzed, and the primary factors through which the satisfaction degree of sleep dental treatment has influence on the revisits and the encouraging intention were analyzed, and the proposal was made on clinic management to raise qualitative medical service level on the basis of this study. Methods : The questionnaires filled out by the 202 users of a certain dental clinic located in Pohang-si, Gyeongbuk were analyzed. The frequency analysis and the crosstabulation analysis of the general characteristics of survey participants were carried out, and the satisfaction difference between the sleep dental treatment and the non-sleep dental treatment was identified with the t-test analysis. The multiple regression analysis were carried out to identify the factors through which the sleep dental treatment has influence on the through which the satisfaction degree of sleep dental treatment has influence on the satisfaction degree of the medical service and the revisited dentists. Results : In the medical service satisfaction degree in general, the sleep dental treatment had the higher meaningful value than the non-sleep dental treatment(p<0.05). In the case of the difference in satisfaction degree on each medical service factor, the satisfaction of the sleep treatment group was high in every case, but the meaningful difference showed up in the factors of waiting time, treatment procedure, revisit and the encouraging intention(p<0.01). The revisit to the sleep treatment dental clinic and the recommending dentist increased in proportion to the satisfaction degree of sleep dental treatment, and the Beta value appeared to be 0.337 at the influence of the subordinate variable(p<0.001). As for the influence on the sleep dental treatment satisfaction, the Beta value of the dental hygienist was the highest, marking the value at 0.375(p<0.01). As for the satisfaction of the patients who experienced the sleep dental treatment, the Beta value of the treatment fee was the highest, marking 0.352(p<0.001), in the multiple regression analysis of the revisit and the encouraging intention, and the 0.156 of dentist factor and the 0.152 of treatment procedure and waiting time showed lower regression coefficient(p<0.05). Conclusions : It is assumed that the satisfaction degree of sleep dental treatment, which is carried out as a new dental service has influence on the increase of revisit to the dental clinic as an important factor. But it was disclosed that the high level of treatment fee has the biggest influence on choice of revisit to the dental clinic. In the current medical charge system, the sleep dental treatment appeared to have a big influence on raising the quality of dentists, the satisfaction of patients, the revisit and encouraging intention, and also the roles of the dental hygienist was important. It is assumed that these facts are functioning as the factors that are linked to the increase of revisit and the encouraging intention.
Introduction: Although it is well known that medical students are not getting an adequate amount of sleep, there have been only few studies on the sleep patterns of medical students in Korea. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the life style and sleep patterns of Korean medical students and the impact they have on the students' academic performance. Methods: A questionnaire package was administered to the $3^{rd}$ year medical students at the Seoul National University to examine their sleep patterns on weekdays and weekends. It consisted of questions asking about their lifestyles as well as Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and GPA (Grade Point Average) that are considered relevant to their sleep patterns. A total of 110 students (85 males and 25 females, mean age $24.4{\pm}20.6$) responded to the survey and the result was analyzed using the independent t-test, the chi-square test, the paired t-test, Pearson's rank correlation and ANOVA. P-values of less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant in all analyses. Results: The weekend bedtime was significantly delayed (01:24 on weekday;03:12 on weekend; t=-5.23, p<0.01), the weekend rise time was delayed (07:36 on weekday;10:30 on weekend ; t=-24.48, p<0.01) and the total sleep time was increased on weekends (5:57 on weekday;8:17 on weekend ; t=15.94, p<0.01). They wished to sleep for 7 hours 6 minutes which was different from their actual weekday total sleep time (t=-11.41, p<0.01). The poor sleeper group had lower GPAs than the good sleeper group (t=2.05, p<0.05). The GPA of medical students were negatively correlated with age (r=-0.23, p<0.05), daily amount of smoking (r=-0.78, p<0.01), total amount of smoking (r=-0.75, p<0.01), weekday sleep latency (r=-0.23, p<0.05), weekend sleep latency (r=-0.23, p<0.05) and PSQI score (r=-0.30, p<0.01). Conclusion: Medical students were experiencing a lack of sleep during weekdays as they have a later bedtime and earlier rise time, and consequently had more hours of sleep on weekends. Overall, the responded students were experiencing poor sleep quality, and the GPAs of the poor sleeper group were lower than those of the good sleeper group.
Objectives: We attempted to study sleep habits and insomnia-associated factors in Korean rural adult population. Methods : In 1,441 adult subjects of three rural communities selected by cluster sampling, we administered an epidemiologic survey using questionnaire methods from July 14, 1996 to July 28, 1996. Results : 1) Mean sleep latency and mean time to sleep again after awakening during nocturnal sleep were longer in females than in males. Females suffered more frequently from insomnia symptom, awakening during nocturnal sleep. morning headache, dysphoric mood in the morning, and the feeling of 'not refreshed' on waking-up than males. 2) The older age group (defined as those older than 65 years) was found to have earlier bed-time, longer sleep latency, more frequent nocturia, longer time to sleep again after awakening during nocturnal sleep, and more frequent insomnia symptom. 3) The presence of insomnia symptom more than once a week was significantly associated with suffering from physical illness, being divorced-separated-widowed, frequently feeling depressed, nocturia, or low education level. 4) In multiple logistic regression analysis, old age, being female, low education level, frequently feeling depressed, and nocturia were independently associated with the presence of insomnia symptom more than once a week. Conclusion : We conclude that, in a Korean rural adult population, insomnia symptom increases with age and females usually suffer more from insomnia symptom than males. In addition, low education level, feeling depressed mood frequently, and nocturia are found to be significantly associated independently with the presence of insomnia symptom more than once a week.

This Paper Describes a Method for the Evaluation of Sleep Apnea, Namely, the Peak Signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of Wavelet Transformed Electroencephalography (EEG) Data. The Purpose of this Study was to Investigate EEG Properties with Regard to Differences between Sleep Spindles and K-complexes and to Characterize Obstructive Sleep Apnea According to Sleep Stage. We Examined Non-REM and REM Sleep in 20 Patients with OSA and Established a New Approach for Detecting Sleep Apnea Base on EEG Frequency Changes According to Sleep Stage During Sleep Apnea Events. For Frequency Bands Corresponding to A3 Decomposition with a Sampling Applied to the KC and the Sleep Spindle Signal. In this Paper, the KC and Sleep Spindle are Ccalculated using MSE and PSNR for 4 Types of Mother Wavelets. Wavelet Transform Coefficients Were Obtained Around Sleep Spindles in Order to Identify the Frequency Information that Changed During Obstructive Sleep Apnea. We also Investigated Whether Quantification Analysis of EEG During Sleep Apnea is Valuable for Analyzing Sleep Spindles and The K-complexes in Patients. First, Decomposition of the EEG Signal from Feature Data was Carried out using 4 Different Types of Wavelets, Namely, Daubechies 3, Symlet 4, Biorthogonal 2.8, and Coiflet 3. We Compared the PSNR Accuracy for Each Wavelet Function and Found that Mother Wavelets Daubechies 3 and Biorthogonal 2.8 Surpassed the other Wavelet Functions in Performance. We have Attempted to Improve the Computing Efficiency as it Selects the most Suitable Wavelet Function that can be used for Sleep Spindle, K-complex Signal Processing Efficiently and Accurate Decision with Lesser Computational Time.

Background: Sleep quality, quantity, and efficiency have all been demonstrated to be adversely affected by rotator cuff pathology. Previous measures of assessing the impact of rotator cuff pathology on sleep have been largely subjective in nature. This study was undertaken to objectively analyze this relationship through the use of activity monitors. Methods: Patients with full-thickness rotator cuff tears at a single institution were prospectively enrolled between 2018 and 2020. Waist-worn accelerometers were provided for the patients to use each night for 14 days. Sleep efficiency was calculated using the ratio of the time spent sleeping to the total amount of time that was spent in bed. Retraction of the rotator cuff tear was classified using the Patte staging system. Results: This study included 36 patients: 18 with Patte stage 1 disease, 14 with Patte stage 2 disease, and 4 patients with Patte stage 3 disease. During the study, 25 participants wore the monitor on multiple nights, and ultimately their data was used for the analysis. No difference in the median sleep efficiency was appreciated amongst these groups (P>0.1), with each cohort of patients demonstrating a generally high sleep efficiency. Conclusions: The severity of retraction of the rotator cuff tear did not appear to correlate with changes in sleep efficiency for patients (P>0.1). These findings can better inform providers on how to counsel their patients who present with complaints of poor sleep in the setting of full-thickness rotator cuff tears.
The purpose of the present driving simulation study was to investigate the effects of fatigue induced both by sleep deprivation and time-on-task on driver's driving performance. The results are as followings. First, although the drivers in almost every experimental conditions showed faster driving speed than that was required, the drivers in the sleep-deprivation and over 1-hour time-on-task condition drove slower than the target speed. Second, the drivers in the sleep-deprivation and over 1-hour time-on-task condition crossed the lane less frequently than those in the other conditions, they weaved more in the lane. Third, as the drivers became more fatigued both by sleep deprivation and continuous driving, they reported higher fatigue scores in the subjective fatigue ratings. The results suggested that although the drivers might adapt a compensative driving strategies when they were fatigued, their driving performances were indeed impaired, in general.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of hand acupuncture therapy on sleep quality by means of a sleep questionnaire, polysomnography and a cerebral blood flow test in $30{\sim}59$ year old adults. Methods: The study was a sham controlled design. Twenty-two adults were assigned to the pellet stimulating group (11) or sham group (11). The pellet stimulating group received hand acupuncture therapy using New Seoam Press Pellets number 1 for 4 weeks. On the other hand, the sham group used the same Adhesive tape in terms of shape, size and quality as New Seoam Press Pellets number 1 for 4 weeks. A Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography and Carotid Duplex Ultrasonography examination were used for evaluating cerebral blood flow. Data was analyzed using the SPSS 12.0 version program with $X^2-test$, Fisher's exact test and Mann Whitney U-test. Results: In the pellet stimulating group, subjective sleep quality significantly improved more than that of the sham group. Among the sleep indices of the polysomnography, total sleep time and sleep latency of the sham group significantly improved. The cerebral blood flow test didn't show any differences. Conclusion: These results suggest that hand acupuncture therapy is effective for subjective sleep improvement only, not polysomnographical sleep indices and cerebral blood flow.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between sleep duration, quality of sleep and depression, and to identify the factors associated with depression in middle school students. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with secondary data, middle school student panel data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (2018), and data from a total of 2,590 students was used for analysis. For the statistical analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression were performed using SPSS ver. 26. Results: The mean depression score in adolescents was 17.99±6.38. Depression had significant differences according to sleep duration and quality. Adolescents with less than eight hours of sleep showed the highest depression, and poor sleepers showed higher depression scores than good sleepers. Gender, school achievement, school satisfaction, economic status, and exercise time were found to significantly relate to depression. After controlling for general characteristics, depression explained 17.2% of the variance in quality of sleep (β=-.15, p<.001) and sleep duration (β=-.04, p=.022). Conclusion: These findings indicate that it is necessary to develop intervention strategies to enhance the quality of sleep and appropriate sleep duration for preventing depression in adolescents.
