A single slab concrete pavement has been modeled and analyzed by ABAQUS program. The stress and displacement of the JCP slab under traffic load with frictionless contact interaction between slab and base calculated by ABAQUS program have been compared with the results obtained by KENSLABS program. The results of the stresses of the two modeling show similar tendency and the difference of the two modeling is very small however the results of the displacement of the two modeling show some dissimilarity. In order to analyze the effects of material and geometric properties on the responses of slab, some varying parameters were chosen as input for the modeling. The changing parameters include the thickness and elastic modulus of the concrete slab, the thickness and elastic modulus of base and the elastic modulus of the subgrade. The contact interaction between the slab and base layer had been also studied and different friction coefficient 0, 2.5, 6.6, 7.5, 8.9 had been used to simulate the different friction interface condition. The results of the analysis showed that the responses of the concrete slab vary with the material and geometric properties of the pavement structure and the slab-base friction condition.
Finite element analysis of concrete slab system in apartment building was executed using the tables of orthogonal arrays, and optimal design process was proposed. At first, experimental results show that sound peak components to influence the overall level and the rating of floor impact sound insulation were coincident with natural frequencies of the reinforced concrete slab. Finite element model of concrete slab was compared with experimental results, and well corresponded with an error of less than 10%. The tables of orthogonal arrays were used for finite element analysis with 8 factors. 3 related to material properties and 5 related to slab shape parameters and its results were analyzed by statistical method, ANOVA. The most effective factor among them was slab thickness, and main effect factor from slab shape parameters was different from each natural frequency. The interaction was found in the higher mode over $3^{rd}$ natural frequency. From main effect plot and interaction plot, the optimal design factor to increase the natural frequency was determined.
The composite reinforced concrete and steel (RCS) structural systems have larger structural lateral stiffness, higher inherent structural damping, and faster construction speed than either traditional reinforcement concrete or steel structures. In this paper, four RCS subassemblies with or without the RC slab designed following a strong column-weak beam philosophy were constructed and tested under reversed-cyclic loading. Parameters including the width of slab and composite effect of the RC slab and beam were explored. The test results showed that all specimens performed in a ductile manner with plastic hinges formed in the beam ends near the column faces. The seismic responses of composite connections are influenced significantly by different width of slabs. Compared with that of the steel beam without the RC slab, it was found that the load carrying capacity of composite connections with the RC slab increased by 30% on average, and strength degradation, energy dissipation also had better performance, while the ductility of that were almost the same. Furthermore, the contribution of connection deformation to the overall specimen displacement was analyzed and compared. It decreased approximately 10% due to the coupling effect in the columns and beams with the RC slab. Based on the test result, some suggestions are presented for the design of composite RCS joints.
This paper is on the research of the special character of the dynamic response according to a design of the clamped reinforced concrete slab. In this study, the 20-node solid element has been used to analyze the dynamic characteristics of RC slabs with clamped edges. The elasto-visco plastic model for material non-linearity and the smeared crack model have been adopted in the finite element formulation. The design factor, which affect the dynamic response of the reinforced concrete slab, are the steel layer thickness, steel layer depth, steel layout method, steel layout angle and the slab thickness and span ratio. The main purpose of this study was to find out the dynamic response of the reinforced concrete slab according to above variables. The reduction of deflection/thickness ratio appeared less than 2% when the slab thickness between 20 and 21cm. It is desirable that the slab thickness must be above 20-21cm. The reduction ratio of deflection is appeared greatly when the value of the span/thickness ratio is between 25 and 30. In conclusion, the steel layer depth and thickness had a little effect on deflection of the dynamic response, but had no effect on the steel layout angle.
This paper reviewed wave propagation of train vibration based on the study of high speed railway soft ground section with pile slab construction. In a filed of railway, concrete track has been adapted in a railway construction. And in order to maintain its track, soil improving method was required to control residual settlement. Within many soft ground settlement prevention techniques, pile slab method has an effect of minimizing residual settlement of soft ground. This is possible using support embankment load method by construct pile slab or cap the upper soft ground. This paper reviewed vibration wave characteristic of soft ground section with pile slab using numerical analysis application through finite element analysis. Pile slab method is established between high stiffened soft ground and embankment this creates a possibility of vibration block or slab amplification. Thus analyzed of wave propagation was done with roadbed and structure property to confirm application performance of pile slab method of high speed railway structure.
The design methodologies for carbon fiber sheet(CFS) strengthening of RC structures are not well established yet because the structural behavior of strengthened RC structures is more complex than that of unstrengthened ones. Even though the research for the methods using CFS has beed studied, the strengthening effects and structural behaviors of strengthened structures are not systematized yet. The purpose of this study is to carry out the experimental studies on three kinds of half scale RC slab bridges and to investigate the behavior of RC slab bridges from the experimental results. Typical flexural failure occurs in the non-strengthening slab like general RC slab bridges, and also the flexural failure occurs in the all area strengthened slab with sudden rip-off failure of strengthening material by punching shear. For the case of strip type strengthened slab, flexural failure occurs, with rip-off of second strip at the base of loading point. Strengthening effect on the slab using CFS is that the strength is increased upto 7~15 percent and the crack pattern is changed.
This paper is investigated the coupling effect in slab-wall structural system. An experimental investigation of reinforced concrete wall-slab structures were peformed. For the purpose of this study slab-wall substructures of an apartment building were chosen. And two specimens with different aid ratios have been tested. There were subjected to reserved cyclic loading, consistent with coupling action, with increasing imposed inelastic deformations. From. the result of this test, 1) in slabs, the coupling stress are not uniform across the width, 2) cracks are tending to be concentrated in the regions near the inner edges of the walls, 3) the effective width used in previous theoretical or model studies may not be enough.
It has been proved that precast slab track has advantage of rapid construction speed and good quality compared to in-situ concrete slab track. A korean precast slab track, which is named as a K-PST, was developed and had been installed on the embankment and explored on the air. The developed track system consists of precast track panel and underpouring layer which is made of cement-asphalt mortar. Consequently, poor filling of underpouring layer directly could affect on the long-term performance of the track system. As a preliminary study, the effect of the poor infilling of the underpouring in precasst slab track system on structural behavior was investigated through FEM analysis.
Previous experimental results performed by many researchers for a couple of decades in South Korea have shown that an absorbing sheet inserted in a conventional floating slab system for thermal insulation or vibration absorption may amplify the vibration of the slab system at specific frequency ranges depending on the material properties of the sheet. The amplified vibration, consequently, results in the heavy weight floor impact noise exceeding the sound level limit for an apartment house, 50 dB. In this study, the amplification mechanism is examined through numerical analysis and a new slab system is proposed to reduce the amplification and control the noise. The new slab system consists of studs connecting the base slab and upper concrete finishing yielding the dramatically increased stiffness of the slab. The numerical simulation is performed to investigate the effect of the slab system with studs on the vibration and noise control. The results show that the performance of the slab is sensitive to the number and location of studs, and the heavy weight floor impact noise can be reduced up to 6~7 dB compared to the conventional slab system at the optimal stud location.
In this study, a new slab system where a part of precast slab is connected each other by viscoelastic material is proposed and numerical analysis is performed to evaluate the effect of the connection between the material and PC slab on the vibration and noise control. Substructuring is introduced to develop the equation of motion for the slab system. In addition, the optimal properties of viscoelastic material are investigated. For the performance evaluation of the new slab system, the sound power and acceleration responses of the slab are compared with those of two way slab and one way slab, respectively. Numerical analysis results show that the sound power of the new slab system can be reduced by viscoelastic material significantly.
