Observation of Spatial and temporal variability of sea skin surface temperature by a Thermal Infrared Camera

  • The MUBEX (MUtsu Bay sea surface temperature validation EXperiment) campaign has been held from 1995 to 1997 in summer. During the MUBEX campaign, a thermal infrared camera (TIC) installed on a research vessel, which was also equipped with other various observation devices, was intensively used to observe microscopic structure of sea skin surface temperature (SSST) behavior. We have now a total number of 500,000 images observed by the TIC under various weather conditions, i.e., very calm or wavy sea condition, and clear, patchy or cloudy sky condition. In this paper, we show typical SSST patterns observed by the TIC, and describe the result of statistical analysis of SSST.

  • Simulation of daylighting by computer program is a method to avoid unnecessary efforts in manufacture of its testing models, to reduce its measuring tolerances and be able to provide variations of various weather conditions as well. Many simulation programs on daylighting have been released freely or commercialized for selling, however, a demonstration of their availability and validity as a tool for evaluating daylighting performance is required since each one has its own characteristics. The objectives of this study lie in suggesting an application method of evaluation tools and demonstration of limits and characteristics so as to more easily determine the daylightingperformance in the very initial stages of planning for an arbitrary office space in which windows with daylight access are built. We produced scale model of the general light inducing type side lighting with lightshelfand ceiling, and the luminance (at 78 measuring points) and illuminance (at 84 measuring points) were measured in a clear sky. And a comparison of the measured values and the calculated values from a computer simulation using the Lightscape program was performed.

  • Prelaunch thermal analysis of the KSLV (Korea Space Launch Vehicle)-I PLF (Payload Fairing) was performed to predict maximum/minimum liftoff temperatures and to evaluate of air conditioning performance. Prelaunch thermal analysis includes internal air conditioning effect, external convective heating/cooling, radiation exchange with the ground and sky, radiation between spacecraft and PLF, and solar radiation incident on PLF. Analysis was performed at two extreme conditions, hot day condition and cold day condition. The results showed that the maximum liftoff temperature was $53^{\circ}C$ and the minimum liftoff temperature was $-3.8^{\circ}C$. It was also found that conditioned air supplying, in $20{\pm}2^{\circ}C\;and\;1200\;m^3/hr$, is sufficient to keep the internal air in required temperature range.

유리 색에 따른 아트리움 실내공간의 채광분위기 평가 (A Study on The Evaluation of Interior Atmosphere in Atrium with Glass Colour)

  • This Study aims to evaluate the interior atmospheres of atrium by glass colours. For the purpose, the 1/50 scale model of one-sided atrium was made and images of interior atmospheres were pictured under clear sky conditions. And then, questionnaire surveys were conducted on K university students in department architecture engineering. The survey results were analyzed by SPSS program. Frequency and correlation analysis were performed. As results, clear glass is chosen as the most preferred glass colour in any seasons. And, green and blue glasses are preferred in the order. And then, it is revealed that the main variables affecting satisfaction of interior atmospheres are a little changed by thermal senses of seasons. These variables are "bright", "neat", "warm", "comfort", "stable", "active", "static", "elegant" and "cool" through correlation analysis.

PV 일체형 태양광발전 광선반시스템의 성능평가 (The Performance Evaluation of Photovoltaic-integrated Lightshelf Systems)

  • The lightshelf system, a daylighting device, has been applied to improve the visual environment by optimal light distributions and intense illumination levels of a interior. Also, The photovoltaic is one of the most important sustainable technologies appliable to architectures. This study aims to evaluate the performance of photovoltaic integrated lightshelf system. For the study, the 1/5 scaled office models were made and the field tests were experimented under clear sky conditions. The power ratio has been analyzed to evaluate the performance of photovoltaic integrated lightshelf system. As results, the power performance was high on photovoltaic lightshelf installation angle $0^{\circ}$. And the performance was reduced on 23(%) by installation angle $15^{\circ}$ and 63(%) by installation angle $30^{\circ}$.

천공구분에 따른 서울지역 일사의 발광효율 측정 및 예측모델과의 비교 연구 (Comparison of Measurement and Calculation Model of Solar Luminous Efficacy for All Sky Conditions in Seoul)

  • For accurate dayligh tsimulation, accurate exterior illuminance is necessary. But, Korea Meteorological Agency provides only the solar irradiance data. Thus, there is a need for the research on luminous efficacy. In this study, global horizontal irradiance, diffuse horizontal irradiance, global horizontal illuminance, and diffuse horizontal illuminance were measured to calculate the luminous efficacy in SEOUL. And, we evaluated the applicability of the Perez's model by comparing the measured data and calculated data. As a result, measured global luminous efficacy is 126(110~129)lm/W and diffuse luminous efficacy is 127(115~133)lm/W in Seoul. Perez's model was relatively accurate with 5% difference in the diffuse luminous efficacy. But, it can be predicted about 15% lower in the global luminous efficacy.

  • Available daylight in inside offers comfortable view environment, and psychological and physical advantages to people in a room. Architecture design has need of daylight prediction for reflection efficiently daylight. But it is difficult to predict the illuminance values in daylight system. Using various lighting simulation software is easy and simple, but we can find different results under the same conditions. This study compares with illuminance values from simulation (Lightscape 3.2, RELUX 2007, RADIANCE 3.9) and Mock-up experiment with the same space and parameter of daylight (location of space and window, date, time and sky condition).

Aerosol radiative forcing over East Asia determined from ground-based sunphotometry measurements

  • Mean radiative forcing efficiencies (${\Delta}$F/${\Delta}{\tau}_{0.5}$) over East Asia range from -65 to -95 W m$^{-2}$ at the surface while -20 to -40 W m$^{-2}$ at TOA under clear-sky conditions. These aerosol direct radiative forcings over East Asia are similar to other experimental results for different regions, i.e., the Indian Ocean Experiment (INDOEX) and the Tropospheric Aerosol Radiative Forcing Observational Experiment (TARFOX), from which radiative forcing efficiencies of -75 Wm$^{-2}$ and -70 Wm$^{-2}$ for the Indian Ocean and the East Coast of the United States are reported. Nevertheless, the differences in aerosol parameters and relatively large STD values with regard to spatiotemporal variations suggest that the impact of aerosol on ARF over East Asia is more significant than previously recognized for other regions and should be continuously observed to determine the relation between increasing aerosols and associated radiative forcings in the region.

정지궤도 해양관측위성 (GOCI) 자료를 이용한 광합성 유효광량 추정 (Estimating Photosynthetically Available Radiation from Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) Data)

  • 이 연구에서는 세계최초 해색 위성인 GOCI로부터 일간 광합성 유효광량(Daily PAR)(GOCI PAR)를 추정하였고 이를 극궤도 위성인 MODIS에서 추정한 Daily PAR(MODIS PAR)와 비교하였다. 또 소청초기지 현장자료를 이용하여 GOCI PAR의 정확도를 검증하였다. GOCI PAR는 맑은 날과 구름이 있는 날 모두 현장자료와 비슷한 결과를 보이지만 MODIS PAR는 구름이 있는 날 값이 일정하지 않고, 자료 손실 등으로 인해 값이 추정되지 않는 해역도 존재하였다. 그러나 GOCI PAR와 현장자료 PAR 사이에 일정한 값의 차이가 나타나 소청초 기지의 맑은 날에 해당하는 PAR 값을 이용하여 GOCI PAR를 보정하였다. 보정 결과, 두꺼운 구름의 영향으로 광학적으로 포화된 날을 제외한 나머지 달에서 GOCI PAR 값이 현장자료 PAR 값과 거의 일치하는 것을 보였다. 연구결과, GOCI 자료는 낮 시간 동안 하루 8번의, 극궤도 위성에 비해 많은 자료를 이용하므로, 한반도 주변 해역에서 Daily PAR 생성 시 구름에 의한 이동과 자료의 부족에 의한 오차를 줄일 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTION OF SURFACE WAVE SLOPE DERIVED USING SUN GLITTER IMAGES FROM GEOSTATIONARY METEROLOGICAL SATELLITE AND SURFACE VECTOR WINDS FROM SCATTEROMETERS

  • Probability distribution of the sea surface slope is estimated using sun glitter images derived from visible radiometer on Geostationary Meteorological Satellite (GMS) and surface vector winds observed by spaceborne scatterometers. The brightness of the visible images is converted to the probability of wave surfaces which reflect the sunlight toward GMS in grids of 0.25 deg $\times$ 0.25 deg. Slope and azimuth angle required for the reflection of the sun's ray toward GMS are calculated for each grid from the geometry of GMS observation and location of the sun. The GMS images are then collocated with surface wind data observed by three scatterometers. Using the collocated data set of about 30 million points obtained in a period of 4 years from 1995 to 1999, probability distribution function of the surface slope is estimated as a function of wind speed and azimuth angle relative to the wind direction. Results are compared with those of Cox and Munk (1954a, b). Surface slope estimated by the present method shows narrower distribution and much less directivity relative to the wind direction than that reported by Cox and Munk. It is expected that their data were obtained under conditions of growing wind waves. In general, wind waves are not always developing, and slope distribution might differ from the results of Cox and Munk. Most of our data are obtained in the subtropical seas under clear-sky conditions. This difference of the conditions may be the reason for the difference of slope distribution.
