Transdermal Delivery of Piroxicam Using Microemulsions

  • To improve the skin permeability of piroxicam, a new oil-in-water microemulsion containing $0.5\%$ piroxicam was developed. Among various oils investigated for their suitability as an oil phase for the microemulsion system, oleic acid showed both excellent solubility and skin permeation enhancing effect for piroxicam. Microemulsion existence ranges were identified through the construction of the pseudo-ternary phase diagram. The effect of the content of oleic acid and the ratio of the surfactant/cosurfactant on skin permeation of piroxicam were evaluated with excised rat skins. The optimum formulation with the highest skin permeation rate ($47.14\;{\mu}g/cm^2/h$) consisted of $0.5\%$ piroxicam, $10\%$ oleic acid, $60\%$ Labrasol/ethanol (1:5) and water.

  • Metallic nanowires (MNWs) have recently been considered as one of the most promising candidates for flexible electrodes of advanced electronics including wearable devices, electronic skins, and soft robotics, since they have high aspect ratio in physical shape, low percolation threshold, high ductility and optical transparency. Herein, we review the latest findings related to the MNWs and discuss the properties and potentials of this material that can be used in implementation of various advanced electronic devices.

  • The knowledge of interaction of electromagnetic waves in composite structures is important for designing the shielding structure for antenna such as radome. Recently, radomes are constructed in the form of foam core sandwich structures that have many mechanical advantages such as high strength, long fatigue life, low density and adaptability to the intended function of structure. However, the propagation of electromagnetic waves is affected by high anisotropic permeability and loss tangent of the composite skin. In this study, the analytical model to understand the propagation of electromagnetic waves in the anisotropic composites and foam core sandwich structures with composite skins was proposed. Numerical analyses of unidirectional composites and foam core sandwich structure as a function of incident angle were performed. From the results of analysis, the general tendencies of transmittance of electromagnetic wave through composites and foam core sandwich structure were obtained.

Flexural and shear behaviour of profiled double skin composite elements

  • Double skin composite element (DSCE) is a novel form of construction comprising two skins of profiled steel sheeting with an infill of concrete. DSCEs are thought to be applicable as shear or core walls in a building where they can resist in-plane loads. In this paper, the behaviour of DSCE subjected to combined bending and shear deformation is described. Small-scale model tests on DSCEs manufactured from micro-concrete and very thin sheeting were conducted to investigate the flexural and shear behaviour along with analytical analysis. The model tests provided information on the strength, stiffness, strain conditions and failure modes of DSCEs. Detailed development of analytical models for strength and stiffness and their performance validation by model tests are presented.

Behaviour of composite walls under monotonic and cyclic shear loading

  • The novel form of composite walling system consists of two skins of profiled steel sheeting with an in-fill of concrete. Such walling system can be used as shear elements in steel framed building subjected to lateral load. This paper presents the results of small-scale model tests on composite wall and its components manufactured from very thin sheeting and micro-concrete tested under monotonic and cyclic shear loading conditions. The heavily instrumented small-scale tests provided information on the load-deformation response, strength, stiffness, strain condition, sheet-concrete interaction and failure modes. Analytical models for shear strength and stiffness are derived with some modification factor to take into account the effect of quasi-static cycling loading. The performance of design equations is validated through experimental results.

  • The parts of building which has the most influence on thermal load are skins, outer walls and windows. Among them, window is the worst weak point of building even if it has many advantage of solar radiation gain than other parts. The present time, many researches on various performance of window and many types of system-window are being made. This study evaluates thermal performance of tilt & sliding system window by simulation program Therm 5.2 and Window 5.2. After making a sample model improving it's thermal weak point, this study evaluates real thermal performance of system window. As a result, this study understands manufacture ability condition of domestic company and proposes a research plan of system window.

  • Changing demographics, changing lifestyles. An international group of architects designs the homes of the future in places diverse as USA, Japan, South America and Europe. These architecture are also challenging the traditional structure of the private house, as we know it. Many of these architects are reinterpreting the private house, challenging traditional notions of what makes house. Here, the interior and exterior surfaces are transformed into 'smart skins', which blur the distinction between the digital and the real and become a part of the daily life of the occupants. The smart house will make possible amazing things we though existed only in science fiction, guarding or welfare, guessing our moods and catering to our demands in music, movies, temperature and ambience. And new materials will further transform our living areas.

  • LBD-005, a newly developed recombinant granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor, was tested for primary skin irritation in male New Zealand White rabbits. In the primary skin irritation test, LBD-005 was applied to intact and abraded skins for 24 hours. Primary irritation index was "0" in test and control sites of all animals' thus LBD-005 was evaluated as a non-irritatant on the basis of the criteria of Draize et al. (1994).l. (1994).

A Study of Onion Skin Pigments in the Extracting Solvents and Residual Pigments after Dyeing the Textiles

  • To set up the outstanding and scientific dyeing method in making the condensed liquid of pigment obtained from onion skins and the improved reliability, the following basic experiments were performed. The pigment was extracted in the distilled water at $70^{\circ}C$ and methanol at room temperature and then it was analyzed with LC/MS/MS system (Liquid Chomatography/Mass Spectroscopy/Mass Spectroscophy, LIQ Advantage Max, Thermo Finnigan, USA) for its pigmental characteristics. The unrefined silk and refined silk were dyed by making use of the derived pigment in such a way. The chromameter (CR-200, Minolta, Japan) was used to measure the change in surface color in textiles to be dyed by the extracting condition and the color difference ${\Delta}E$ was determined according to the color difference formula CIE LAB through measuring the psychometric lightness L* and chromaticity coordinates a* and b*.

  • Stretchable electronic systems have recently been gaining more and more attention because of their potential applications in various implements such as electronic skins and wearable/shape-deformable electronics. An essential factor of the stable stretchable device implementation is that all the elements constituting the system must have sufficient elasticity and exhibit stable performances even under repetitive stretching conditions. In this paper, we review the latest research results to secure the stable stretchability of electrodes among the various components of the system.
