Fabrication of Size-Controlled Hole Array by Surface-Catalyzed Chemical Deposition (표면 촉매 화학 반응을 이용한 크기 조절이 가능한 홀 어레이 제작)

  • Low-cost and large-scale fabrication method of nanohole array, which comprises nanoscale voids separated by a few tens to a few hundreds of nanometers, has opened up new possibilities in biomolecular sensing as well as novel frontier optical devices. One of the key aspects of the nanohole array research is how to control the hole size following each specific needs of the hole structure. Here, we report the extensive study on the fine control of the hole size within the range of 500-2500 nm via surface-catalyzed chemical deposition. The initial hole structures were prepared via conventional photo-lithography, and the hole size was decreased to a designed value through the surface-catalyzed chemical reduction of the gold ion on the predefined hole surfaces, by simple dipping of the hole array device into the aqueous solution of gold chloride and hydroxylamine. The final hole size was controlled by adjusting reaction time, and the optimal experimental condition was obtained by doing a series of characterization experiments. The characterization of size-controlled hole array was systematically examined on the image results of optical microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM), atomic-force microscopy(AFM), and total internal reflection microscopy.

  • This paper develops an algorithm to determine the batch size of the batch process in real time for improving production and efficient control of production system with multiple processes and batch processes. It is so important to find the batch size of the batch process, because the variability arising from the batch process in the production system affects the capacity of the production. Specifically, batch size could change system efficiency such as throughput, WIP (Work In Process) in production system, batch formation time and so on. In order to improve the system variability and productivity, real time batch size determined by considering the preparation time and batch formation time according to the number of operation of the batch process. The purpose of the study is to control the WIP by applying CONWIP production system method in the production line and implements an algorithm for a real time batch size decision in a batch process that requires long work preparation time and affects system efficiency. In order to verify the efficiency of the developed algorithm that determine the batch size in a real time, an existed production system with fixed the batch size will be implemented first and determines that batch size in real time considering WIP in queue and average lead time in the current system. To comparing the efficiency of a system with a fixed batch size and a system that determines a batch size in real time, the results are analyzed using three evaluation indexes of lead time, throughput, and average WIP of the queue.

A Study of Development and Real Time Control of Small Size Robot by Cable Reduction (케이블 감속을 이용한 소형 로봇의 개발과 실시간 제어에 관한 연구)

  • In this thesis, a three degrees of freedom robot, which is able to provide sufficient precision for various robot researches, has been developed. The cable mechanism is used as a basic transmission of robot joints. Based on an optimal design strategy, link and joint parameters are determined and then overall geometry of the robot is designed. As an architecture of robot control, real time control system using real time linux and RtiC-Lab(Real Time Controls Laboratory) is developed. This system, written in C and based on Linux O/S, includes text editor, compiler, downloader, and real time plotter running in host computer for developing control purpose. Using these hardware and software, simple PD position control is implemented, the results shows the effectiveness of the system.

Vibration and Noise Control of Structural Systems Using Squeeze Mode ER Mounts

  • This paper presents vibration and noise control of flexible structures using squeeze mode electro-rheological mounts. After verifying that the damping force of the ER mount can be controlled by the intensity of the electric fild, two different types of ER squeeze mounts have been devised. Firstly, a small size ER mount to support 3 kg is manufactured and applied to the frame structure to control the vibration. An optimal controller which consists of the velocity and the transmitted force feedback signals is designed and implemented to attenuate both the vibration and the transmitted forces. Secondly, a large size of ER mount to support 200 kg is devised and applied to the shell structure to reduce the radiated noise. Dynamic modeling and controller design are undertaken in order to evaluate noise control performance as well as isolation performance of the transmitted force. The radiated noise from the cylindrical shell is calculated by SYSNOISE using forces which are transmitted to the cylindrical shell through two-stage mounting system.

  • In this paper, a temperature control for LED(Light Emitting Diode) lamp using a cooling fan is studied. An efficient temperature control scheme for the LED lamp using the fan wind at the lowest sound noise is studied. For the study, after measurement of the minimum sound noise of the fan and related temperature of the LED lamp through tests, experiments on temperature control of the LED lamp using the fan with various size of heat sinks was performed. To minimize the fan sound noise, optimal size of the heat sink was studied. Also, a teleoperting control of LED lamps using RF communication was studied.

A Study of Weight Control and Associated Factors among High School Female Students (서울 일부 지역 여고생의 체중조절 및 이와 관련된 요인)

  • The study purpose was to examine weight control status and related factors among 370 high school girls in Seoul. Factors examined included interest toward weight control, body satisfaction, body image, beliefs regarding weight control and self-efficacy. $65.1\%$ had attempted to control weight and were categorized into attempt group. Those in the attempt group had higher body weight (p < 0.001) and BMI (p < 0.001) than the counterparts. They tried to control weight 2.9 times on average (22.4 days each time). The major information sources for weight control were internet ($62.8\%$), and TV/radio ($17.1\%$). Exercise was most commonly used for weight control, followed by reducing meal amount and skipping dinner. The attempt group was less satisfied with body size (p < 0.001) and perceived their body size as heavier than the counterparts (p < 0.001), but they showed more interest toward weight control (p < 0.001). The ideal body size of society or the body size that they want was very thin in both groups. Twelve out of 20 beliefs regarding weight control were significantly different between the two groups. The attempt group believed more strongly on the advantages such as increased self-confidence, appearance, attractiveness (p < 0.001) and 'good for making friends' (p < 0.01) In contrast, the attempt group believed less strongly about the disadvantages including harmful effects on health (p < 0.001), parents' dislike, feelings of discouragement (p < 0.01) and becoming (p < 0.05). The attempt group showed lower overall self-efficacy to control overeating (p < 0.05) than the counterparts. Especially, the attempt group felt less control of overeating in situations such as eating-out, after school, when they are with family (p < 0.01) or with friends, when they feel hungry, during examination periods and when others offer food (p < 0.05). This study suggested that weight management education for adolescents include strategies for changing body image and beliefs regarding weight control, as well as increasing self-efficacy to control overeating. A Simulation Study on Effect Analysis of EMS Combined Control of Central Cooling and Heating System (중앙냉난방시스템의 EMS 복합제어 효과 분석에 관한 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • In this study, we analyze the existing heating and cooling operation method for an office-type complex building with a central heating and cooling system, and examine the effects of applying various EMS that can be applied according to the load size to save energy in the building. For this purpose, simulation analysis was performed. As a control method, reset control of chilled water, hot water, cooling water and supply air temperatures, optimal start/stop of heat source, and number of heat source control were applied according to the load size, and energy consumption was analyzed accordingly. In addition, when all of these control methods were applied, the overlapping energy saving effect was finally confirmed. As a result, it was possible to confirm the energy saving effect when EMS for reset control and heat source control were applied compared to the existing control method of the heating and cooling system, and the effect for the case of using all these control methods in combination was also confirmed.

  • In this paper, we propose a F-MBE algorithm for Dual mode seeker (CCD and IIR). The MBE algorithm show improved performance at the IIR target size estimation. but the MBE can't use at Dual Mode seeker. To overcome this problem,, we apply template matching method for CCD target size information. The performance of proposed F-MBE method is tested at target intercept scenario of dual mode seeker equipped missile. The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm has the relatively improved performance.

An Economic Design of the Chart with Variable Sample Size Scheme

  • An economic design of the $\bar{X}-R$ chart using variable sample size (VSS) scheme is proposed in this paper. In this design the sample size at each sampling time changes according to the values of the previous two sample statistics, sample mean and range. The VSS scheme uses large sample if the sample statistics appear near inside the control limits and smaller sample otherwise. The set of process parameters, such as the sampling interval, control limits and the sample sizes, are chosen to minimize the expected cost per hour. The efficiency of the VSS scheme is compared to the fixed sample size one for cases where there is multiple of assignable causes. Percent reductions of the expected cost in the VSS design are calculated for some given sets of cost parameters. It is shown that the VSS scheme improves the confidence of the procedure and performs statistically better in terms of the number of false alarms and the average time to signal, respectively.

MCMB Synthesis using Coal Tar Pitch

  • MCMB (mesocarbon microbeads) has been synthesized from coal tar pitch, petroleum pitch and polymer compound generally. But yield of MCMB was low about 20~40 wt% and was not above 50 wt%. Neither MCMB was replaced with natural graphite because of economic performance, refining MCMB, and control of the particle size distribution. This study was performed to elevate yield of MCMB and to develop technique of particle size distribution. As the result, yield of MCMB that was synthesized from coal tar pitch increased more than 60 wt% about raw material and particle size of MCMB was restrained according to control of QI (quinoline insoluble) ingredient in raw pitch, heat treatment temperature and time.
