A simplified rational method is developed to evaluate transverse earthquake-induced forces in continuous bridges. This method models the bridge as a beam on elastic foundation, and assumes a sinusoidal curve for both vibration mode shape and deflected shape in the transverse direction. The principle of minimum total potential is used to calculate the displacements and the earthquake-induced forces in the transverse direction. This method is concise and easy to apply, and hence, offers an attractive alternative to a lengthy and time consuming three dimensional modeling of the bridge as given by AASHTO under its Single Mode Spectral Analysis Method.

This paper addresses the results of an experimental and analytical research of cylindrical coil spring subjected to dynamic behavior. Transfer functions are presented for both deflection and transmitted force as the output with force as the input. Steady state sinusoidal magnitude ratio and transmittance are plotted along with experimental data. It is shown that dynamic characteristic of cylindrical coil spring must be used to enhance the reability of vibration system dynamic behavior analysis in actuating over some frequency.
A computational analysis of the nonlinear free vibration of corrugated annular plates with shallow sinusoidal corrugations under uniformly static ambient temperature is examined. The governing equations based on Hamilton's principle and nonlinear bending theory of thin shallow shell are established for a corrugated plate with a concentric rigid mass at the center and rotational springs at the outer edges. A simple harmonic function in time is assumed and the time variable is eliminated from partial differential governing equations using the Kantorovich averaging procedure. The resulting ordinary equations, which form a nonlinear two-point boundary value problem in spatial variable, are then solved numerically by shooting method, and the temperature-dependent characteristic relations of frequency vs. amplitude for nonlinear vibration of heated corrugated annular plates are obtained. Several numerical results are presented in both tabular and graphical forms, which demonstrate the accuracy of present method and illustrate the amplitude frequency dependence for the plate under such parameters as ambient temperature, plate geometry, rigid mass and elastic constrain.
This paper presents a beam finite element model of a vibrate wind blade in large elastic deformation subjected to the aerodynamic, centrifugal, gyroscopic and gravity loads. The gyroscopic loads applied to the blade are induced by her simultaneous vibration and rotation. The proposed beam finite element model is based on a simplex interpolation method and it is mainly intended to the numerical analysis of wind blades vibration in large elastic deformation. For this purpose, the theory of the sheared beams and the finite element method are combined to develop the algebraic equations system governing the three-dimensional motion of blade vibration. The applicability of the theoretical approach is elucidated through an original case study. Also, the static deformation of the used wind blade is assessed by appropriate software using a solid finite element model in order to show the effectiveness of the obtained results. To simulate the nonlinear dynamic response of wind blade, the predictor-corrector Newmark scheme is applied and the stability of numerical process is approved during a large time of blade functioning. Finally, the influence of the modified geometrical stiffness on the amplitudes and frequencies of the wind blade vibration induced by the sinusoidal excitation of gravity is analyzed.

An experimental real-time hybrid method, which implements the vibration control of a building structure with only a two-way TLMD, is proposed and verified through a shaking table test. The building structure is divided into the upper experimental TLMD and the lower numerical structural part. The shaking table vibrates the TLMD with the response calculated from the numerical substructure, which is subjected to the excitations of the measured interface control force at its top story and sinusoidal waves input at its base. The results show that the conventional method can be replaced by the proposed methodology with a simple installation and accuracy for evaluating the control performance of a TLMD.

In this study, the control performance of a Tuned Liquid Mass Damper(TLMD) manufactured to reduce the orthogonal bi-directional responses of building structures was experimentally evaluated. the TLMD using only one control device reduce bi-directional responses of building structures by making the TLMD behave as TMD and TLCD to the strong and weak axial direction of building structures. first, the control performance was evaluated by forcing sinusoidal waves to a test model that the TLMD is installed on the scale-downed building structure. Second, the real-time hybrid shaking table test was performed to evaluate the performance of the vibration control system made up of numerical part as a scale-downed building structural model and a physical experimental part as a TLMD. the superiority of bi-directional vibration control performance of the manufactured TLMD was verified by comparing the uncontrolled and controlled results of these tests.

The main purpose of this paper is to present an analytical method for free vibration of stepped horizontally curved members on two-parameter elastic foundation. The ordinary differential equations governing the free vibration of such beams are derived as non-dimensional forms including the effects of rotatory inertia and shear deformation. The governing equations are solved numerically for the circular, parabolic, sinusoidal and elliptic curved beams with hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped and clamped-clamped end constraints. As the numerical results, the lowest four natural frequency parameters are presented as the functions of various non-dimensional system parameters. Also the typical mode shapes are presented.
In this paper, an active vibration control system using a voice coil type linear oscillating actuator(LOA) is studied to suppress structural vibration. Being compared with a hydraulic actuator, a LOA has simplified structure and requires a few elements in the driving system, so it has lots of merits with respect to economics and maintenance. The general mathematical dynamic model to obtain the algorithm for the realization of vibration active control system is treated. Actually, the performance test of the control system using LOA is carried out on a steel test structure under sinusoidal and white noise excitation. From this test it is conformed that acceleration level of test structure is reduced near the resonance region. In the future research on the application to large structures will be studied.
There is not enough mixed finite element method (MFEM) model developed for static and dynamic analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) beams in the literature. The main purpose of this study is to develop a reliable and efficient computational modeling using an efficient functional in MFEM for free vibration and static analysis of FGM composite beams subject to high order shear deformation effects. The modeling of material properties was performed using mixture rule and Mori-Tanaka scheme which are more realistic determination techniques. This method based on the assumption that a two phase composite material consisting of matrix reinforced by spherical particles, randomly distributed in the beam. To explain the displacement components of the shear deformation effects, it was accepted that the shear deformation effects change sinusoidal. Partial differential field equations were obtained with the help of variational methods and then these equations were transformed into a novel functional for FGM beams with the help of Gateaux differential derivative operator. Thanks to the Gateaux differential method, the compatibility of the field equations was checked, and the field equations and boundary conditions were reflected to the function. A MFEM model was developed with a total of 10 degrees of freedom to apply the obtained functional. In the numerical applications section, free vibration and flexure problems solutions of FGM composite beams were compared with those predicted by other theories to show the effects of shear deformation, thickness changing and boundary conditions.
Recently, hybrid and electric vehicles have been actively developed to replace internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. However, their vibrations and noise with complex spectra cause discomfort to drivers. To reduce the vibrations transmitted through primary excitation sources such as powertrains, structural changes have been introduced. However, the interference among different parts is a limitation. Thus, active mounting systems based on smart materials have been actively investigated to overcome these limitations. This study focuses on diminishing the source movement when a structure with two active mounting systems is excited to a single sinusoidal and a multi-frequency signal, which were investigated for source movement reduction. The overall structure was modeled based on the lumped parameter method. Active vibration control was implemented based on the modeled structure, and a multi-normalization least mean square (NLMS) algorithm was used to obtain the control input for the active mounting system. Furthermore, the performance of the NLMS algorithm was compared with that of the quantification method to demonstrate the performance of active vibration control. The results demonstrate that the vibration attenuation performance of the source component was improved.
