  • In this paper, parallel operation systems with Z-source Inverters for the fuel cell systems are discussed. The carrier phase shifted SPWM(Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation) has an advantage in reducing harmonics of output current. However when this technique applies in parallel operation of Z-source inverters, it additionally produces circulating currents. The circulating current is analyzed and a method to prevent the circulating current is applied to the parallel operation systems of Z-source inverters. To maintain high performance with reduced circulating current in inverter output and low harmonic components in load current, circulating current reactors are used. The proposed approach is verified through simulation and experiment.

The proposed model system consists of a simple utility circuit configuration, 3kW of single phase utility interactive photovoltaic system, single phase PWM voltage source inverter module, and feed forward PID controller as control circuit. In the system, the DC current is assumed constant, and the voltage source inverter provides sinusoidal ac current for the loads of utility system. The simulation results are given in order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model. The phases of output voltage of utility system and the output current of the inverter module are compared. Especially, the compensation effect of the photovoltaic system for the unbalanced load is analyzed. and the transient phenomena for a phase to ground fault are also simulated.

  • This paper deals with the modified modeling of PV system based on the PSCAD/EMTDC and optimal control method of customer voltages in real distribution system interconnected with the photovoltaic (PV) systems. In order to analyze voltage variation characteristics, the specific modeling of PV system which contains the theory of d-q transformation, current-control algorithm and sinusoidal PWM method is being required. However, the conventional modeling of PV system can only perform the modeling of small-scale active power of less than 60 [kW]. Therefore, this paper presents a modified modeling that can perform the large-scale active power of more than 1 [MW]. And also, this paper proposes the optimal operation method of step voltage regulator (SVR) in order to solve the voltage variation problem when the PV systems are interconnected with the distribution feeders. From the simulation results, it is confirmed that this paper is effective tool for voltage analysis in distribution system with PV systems.

  • In this paper, a new converter for utility interactive photovoltaic system is proposed, the conventional utility interactive photovoltaic system is composed of a PWM inverter and a DC converter. However, the increased switching loss and the high frequency switching noise become a problem. the control accuracy of the system is made to lower by the dead time of the switching devices. and it becomes a cause of the lower conversion efficiency. In order to resolve those problems, we applied a non- dissipative snubber circuit to a converter, which generates the single phase absolute value of sinusoidal current. the converter consists of two switching devices and one capacitor which constitute a non-dissipative snubber circuit. the proposed circuit is very useful to minimize and increase efficiency, when it is used to an utility interactive photovoltaic system. it is confirmed by simulation that the proposed converter for new photovoltaic system has stable operation and good output.

  • This paper propose a improved speed control system for five-phase squirrel-cage induction motor(IM) considering effects of 3rd. harmonic current components with field oriented control(FOC) A five-phase IM drives present unique characteristics due to the additional degrees of freedom and also drives possess many others advantage compared with the traditional three-phase motor drive system, such as reducing a amplitude of torque pulsation at low frequency and increasing the reliability. In order to maximize the torque per ampere, the proposed motor has concentrated windings. The produced back-electromotive force is almost trapezoidal, and the motor is supplied with the combined sinusoidal plus third harmonic of currents. There is necessary to controlled 3rd harmonic current. For presenting the superior performance of the proposed the speed control system, experimental results are presented using a 32-bit fixed point TMS320F2812 DSP with 1.5[KW] induction motor.

  • A new instantaneous torque control is presented for a high performance control of a permanent magnet(PM) synchronous motor. In order to deal with the torque pulsating problem of a PM synchronous motor in a low speed region, new torque estimation and cotrol techniques are proposed. The linkage flux of a PM synchronous motor is estimated using a model reference adaptive system technique and the torque is instantaneously controlled by the proposed torque controller combining an integral variable structure control with a space vector PWM. The proposed control provides the advantage of reducing the torque pulsation caused by the non-sinusoidal flux distribution. This control strategy is applied to the high torque PM synchronous motor drive system for direct drive applications and implemented by using a software of the DSP TMS320C30. The simulations and experiments are carried out for this system and the results well demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed control.

  • This paper proposes a modified space-vector pulse width modulation (PWM) strategy which can restrict the common-mode voltage for three-phase to three-phase matrix converter and still keep sinusoidal input and output waveforms and unity power factor at the input side. The proposed control method has been developed based on contributing the appropriate space vectors instead of using zero space vectors. The advantages of this proposed method is to reduce the peak value of common-mode voltage to 42% beside the lower high harmonic components as compared to the conventional SVM method. Hence, the new table is also presented with the new space vector rearrangement. Furthermore, the voltage transfer ratio is unaffected by the proposed method. A simulation of the overall system has been carried out to validate the advantages of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a carrier-based modulation method for the control of a matrix converter. By using the offset voltage and changing the slope of the carrier, it is possible to synthesize sinusoidal input currents with unity power factor and the desired output voltages. The proposed method is equivalent to the so called SVPWM (Space Vector PWM) method, but its implementation is much easier. Moreover, the proposed method is very attractive because it is possible to apply the 2 phase t 3 phase modulation method, overmodulation method and other methods which are well-developed in the study of voltage source inverters (VSI) to the matrix coverter modulation. The feasibility of the proposed modulation method has been verified by computer simulation and experimental results.

  • A single-stage AC-AC converter has been designed for a wind energy conversion system (WECS) that eliminates multistage operation and DC-link filter elements, thus resolving size, weight, and reliability issues. A simple switching strategy is used to control the switches that changes the variable-frequency AC output of an electrical generator to a constant-frequency supply to feed into a distributed electrical load/grid. In addition, a modified random sinusoidal pulse width modulation (RSPWM) technique has been developed for the designed converter to make the overall system more efficient by increasing generating power capacity and reducing the effects of inter-harmonics and sub-harmonics generated in the WECS. The technique uses carrier and reference waves of variable switching frequency to calculate the firing angles of the switches of the converter so that the three-phase output voltage of the converter is very close to a sine wave with reduced THD. A comparison of the performance of the proposed RSPWM technique with the conventional SPWM demonstrated that the power generated by a turbine in the proposed approximately increased by 5% to 10% and THD reduces by 40% both in voltage and current with respect to conventional SPWM.
