Sintering Characteristics of 304 and 316L Stainless Steel Fine Powder (304 및 316L 스테인레스강 미립 분말의 소결 특성)

  • The characteristics of 304 (Fe-18%Cr-12%Ni) and 316L (Fe-18%Cr-13%Ni-2.4%Mo) austenite stainless-steel compacts sintered with $5{\sim}15{\mu}m$ powder were investigated and the results led to the following conclusions: (1) When the sintering time was 3.6ks, the relative density of sintered compacts was $95{\sim}98%$, regardless of any other sintering condition. (2) When a vacuum sintering was done with $5{\mu}m$ stainless steel powders, almost fully-dense sintered compacts were obtained at is = 57.6ks. (3) The amount of residual oxygen in 304 and 316L sintered compacts was $0.5{\sim}0.6%$, regardless of sintering atmosphere. (4) The amount of residual oxygen in the vacuum sintered compact decreased more than 0.3 % due to addition of carbon powder, thereby reducing the formation of oxides. Furthermore, the addition of carbon improved the density of sintered compact, which enables us to make a fully-dense high performance sintered compact.

  • We fabricate the non-equiatomic high-entropy alloy (NE-HEA) Fe49.5Mn30Co10Cr10C0.5 (at.%) using spark plasma sintering under various sintering conditions. Each elemental pure powder is milled by high-energy ball milling to prepare NE-HEA powder. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the sintered samples are investigated using various methods. We use the X-ray diffraction (XRD) method to investigate the microstructural characteristics. Quantitative phase analysis is performed by direct comparison of the XRD results. A tensile test is used to compare the mechanical properties of small samples. Next, electron backscatter diffraction analysis is performed to analyze the phase fraction, and the results are compared to those of XRD analysis. By combining different sintering durations and temperature conditions, we attempt to identify suitable spark plasma sintering conditions that yield mechanical properties comparable with previously reported values. The samples sintered at 900 and 1000℃ with no holding time have a tensile strength of over 1000 MPa.

Effect of the speed sintering schedule on the marginal and internal gaps of multi-layered zirconia prothesis (급속소결이 다층 지르코니아 치과보철물의 변연 및 내면 적합도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study is to evaluate the clinical acceptability of the marginal discrepancies and internal spacing of multi-layered zirconia prothesis by speed sintering. Methods: The two specimen types come from the same manufacturer but differ in the ingredients in layered zirconia and indication, that is anterior and posterior. The designs of both specimens were full contour crowns, and a total of 20 pieces were repeatedly fabricated, 10 for each group. The specimens were divided into two subgroups (n=10) and sintered with various total times (4 hours, 8 hours) at the maximum temperature (1,530℃). The gap between the two groups of multi-layered zirconia prostheses was measured using a silicone replica technique of 2D analysis method. The independent sample t-test was then used to compare and analyze the data obtained from the two groups (α=0.05). Results: The marginal and internal gap was superior in the 8-hour compared to the 4-hour group, and the results exhibited significant differences (p<0.05). All specimens showed that using the speed sintering schedule does not exceed the clinically permitted value of 120 ㎛, meaning zirconia prothesis using the speed sintering was adequate. Conclusion: The sintering condition is shown to affect the marginal and internal gaps of multi-layered zirconia restoration.

Effect of Annealing Temperature on Microstructure and Properties of the Pressureless-Sintered $SiC-ZrB_2$ Electroconductive Ceramic Composites (상압소결(常壓燒結)한 $SiC-ZrB_2$ 전도성(電導性) 복합체(複合體)의 미세구조(微細構造)와 특성(特性)에 미치는 Annealing 온도(溫度)의 영향(影響))

  • The effect of pressureless-sintered temperature on the densification behavior, mechanical and electrical properties of the $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites was investigated. The $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were pressureless-sintered for 2 hours at temperatures in the range of $1,750{\sim}1,900[^{\circ}C]$, with an addition of 12[wt%] of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$(6:4 mixture of $Al_2O_3\;and\;Y_2O_3$) as a sintering aid. The relative density and mechanical properties are increased markedly at temperatures in the range of $1,850{\sim}1,900[{^\circ}C]$. The relative density, flexural strength, vicker's hardness and fracture toughness showed the highest value of 81.1[%], 230[MPa], 9.88[GPa] and $6.05[MPa\;m^{1/2}]$ for $SiC-ZrB_2$ composites of $1,900[{^\circ}C]$ sintering temperature at room temperature respectively. The electrical resistivity was measured by the Pauw method in the temperature ranges from $25[{^\circ}C]\;to\;700[{^\circ}C]$, The electrical resistivity showed the value of $1.36{\times}10^{-4},\;3.83{\times}10^{-4},\;3.51{\times}10^{-4}\;and\; 3.2{\times}10^{-4}[{\Omega}{\cdot}cm]$ for SZ1750, SZ1800, SZ1850 and SZ1900 respectively at room temperature. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all PTCR(Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistivity). The resistance temperature coefficient showed the value of $4.194{\times}10^{-3},\;3,740{\times}10^{-3},\;2,993{\times}10^{-3},\;3,472{\times}10^{-3}/[^{\circ}C}$ for SZ1750, SZ1800, SZ1850 and SZ1900 respectively in the temperature ranges from $25[{\circ}C]\;to\;700[{\circ}C]$, It is assumed that because polycrystallines such as recrystallized $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites, contain of porosity and In Situ $YAG(Al_5Y_3O_{12})$ crystal grain boundaries, their electrical conduction mechanism are complicated. In addition, because the condition of such grain boundaries due to $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives widely varies with sintering temperature, electrical resistivity of the $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites with sintering temperature also varies with sintering condition. It is convinced that ${\beta}-SiC$ based electroconductive ceramic composites for heaters or ignitors can be manufactured by pressureless sintering.

The $SiC-TiB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were pressureless-sintered for 2 hours at temperatures in the range of $1,750{\sim}1,900[^{\circ}C]$, with an addition of 12[wt%] $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3(6:4\;mixture\;of\;Al_2O_3\;and\;Y_2O_3)$ as a sintering aid. The relative density, flexural strength, vicker's hardness and fracture toughness showed the highest value of 84.92[%], 140[MPa], 4.07[GPa] and $3.13[MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}]$ for $SiC-TiB_2$ composites of $1,900[^{\circ}C]$ sintering temperature at room temperature respectively. The electrical resistivity was measured by the Pauw method in the temperature ranges from $25[^{\circ}C]\;to\;700[^{\circ}C]$. The electrical resistivity showed the value of $5.51{\times}10^{-4},\;2.11{\times}10^{-3},\;7.91{\times}10^{-4}\;and\;6.91{\times}10^{-4}[\Omega{\cdot}cm]$ for ST1750, ST1800, ST1850 and ST1900 respectively at room temperature. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all PTCR(Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistivity). The resistance temperature coefficient showed the value of $3.116{\times}10^{-3},\;2.717{\times}10^{-3},\;2.939{\times}10^{-3},\;3.342{\times}10^{-3}/[^{\circ}C]$ for ST1750, ST1800, ST1850 and ST1900 respectively in the temperature ranges from $25[^{\circ}C]\;to\;700[^{\circ}C]$. It is assumed that because polycrystallines, such as recrystallized $SiC-TiB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites, contain of porosity and In Situ $YAG(Al_5Y_3O_{12})$ crystal grain boundaries, their electrical conduction mechanism are complicated. Low temperature and dieletric properties of $Al_2O_3$/CAS glass composites by dose and particle size of $Al_2O_3$ filler and sintering time ($Al_2O_3$ 충전제의 함량, 입도 및 소결시간에 따른 $Al_2O_3$/CAS glass 복합체의 저온 소결 및 유전 특성)

  • Influences of dose and particle size of $Al_2O_3$ filler and sintering time on the dielectric properties of $Al_2O_3$ filler/CaO-$Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ (CAS) glass composites were investigated with a view to applying the composites to the substrate material in low temperature co-firing ceramic (LTCC) technology. The increased addition of $Al_2O_3$ filler with the particle size of 1 ${\mu}m$ monotonically decreased the density of the sintered specimen at a given temperature, while sintering of the 10 wt% $Al_2O_3$ added specimen at $925^{\circ}C$ for 2 h demonstrated 96.0 % of the relative density, dielectric constant of 6.34, and quality factor of 2,760 GHz. As for the influence of the particle size of the $Al_2O_3$ filler, there existed an optimum particle size (30 ${\mu}m$) to ensure successful densification (96.5 %) of the 10 wt% $Al_2O_3$/CAS composites at $925^{\circ}C$ for 2 h, at which condition the specimen demonstrated dielectric constant of 5.45 and quality factor of 3,740 GHz. When the influence of the sintering time of the 10 wt% $Al_2O_3$) (30 ${\mu}m$) added specimen was investigated at the sintering temperature of $925^{\circ}C$, an overly long sintering time degraded dielectric properties due to the over-sintering and the significant growth of the second phase such as anorthite, while the sintering for 4 h demonstrated 96.58 % of the relative density, dielectric constant of 5.4, and quality factor of 4,050 GHz. These results demonstrate the feasibility of the investigated material as the substrate material in LTCC technology.

  • The implant prototypes with various porosities were fabricated by Spark Plasma Sintering of atomized spherical titanium balls. The interface was observed by optical microscope. Sintering temperature and holding time were selected at the point of big change of Z-axis ratio during sintering. These experiments show that Spark Plasma Sintering of spherical titanium balls can be efficiently used to produce implants surfaced with titanium balls with various porosities in a short time less than 120 seconds by manipulating the current condition such as z-axis, temperature and balls size.

  • The porous metals are known as relatively excellent characteristic such as large surface area, light, lower heat capacity, high toughness and permeability. The Fe-Cr-Al alloys have high corrosion resistance, heat resistance and chemical stability for high temperature applications. And then many researches are developed the Fe-Cr-Al porous metals for exhaust gas filter, hydrogen reformer catalyst support and chemical filter. In this study, the Fe-Cr-Al porous metals are developed with Fe-22Cr-6Al(wt) powder using powder compaction method. The mean size of Fe-22Cr-6Al(wt) powders is about $42.69{\mu}m$. In order to control pore size and porosity, Fe-Cr-Al powders are sintered at $1200{\sim}1450^{\circ}C$ and different sintering maintenance as 1~4 hours. The powders are pressed on disk shapes of 3 mm thickness using uniaxial press machine and sintered in high vacuum condition. The pore properties are evaluated using capillary flow porometer. As sintering temperature increased, relative density is increased from 73% to 96% and porosity, pore size are decreased from 27 to 3.3%, from 3.1 to $1.8{\mu}m$ respectively. When the sintering time is increased, the relative density is also increased from 76.5% to 84.7% and porosity, pore size are decreased from 23.5% to 15.3%, from 2.7 to $2.08{\mu}m$ respectively.

The Power Loss Characteristics of Mn-Zn Ferrites at MHz Region with Sintering Condition (소성조건에 따른 MHz 대역의 Mn-Zn ferrite 전력손실 특성)

  • The power loss characteristics of Mn-Zn ferrite were observed with the sintering temperature. In case of $1150 ^{\circ}C$ sintering, the core loss increased with measuring temperature, and does not have minimum value at the point where the magnetocrystalline anisotropy be 'zero'. This reason mainly due to the change of core loss mechanism with grain size which affects residual loss. The grain size and sintered density slightly increased with equilibrium oxygen partial pressure at$ 1150 ^{\circ}C$ sintering. The resistivity and initial permeability showed no significance with atmosphere, these results due to complex effect of $Fe^{2+}$ concentration and microstructure change. The core loss at $100^{\circ}C$ decreased as the equilibrium oxygen partial pressure increased.e increased.

  • A spark plasma sintering technique has been used for the fabrication of $Al_2O_3$-SiC nanocomposites at the low temperature of $1100^{\circ}C$$1500^{\circ}C$. The sintered $Al_2O_3$-SiC composites shows very homogeneous microstructure without any particular abnormal grain growth, indicating that the addition of nano-sized SiC particles is very effective to control grain growth and to induce the residual stress in the $Al_2O_3$ matrix, resulting in the intragranular fracture. These SiC particles are present in the grain boundaries and also intragrain, depending on the sintering condition, and improve remarkably the mechanical properties of $Al_2O_3$-SiC composite through the mechanisms of strengthening and toughening induced by crack diffraction and crack bridging.
