  • The sintering and high frequency electro-magnetic properties of Ba-hexagonal ferrite were investigated. All samples of the Ba-hexagonal ferrite were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method and sintered at $1150^{\circ}C$~$1400^{\circ}C$. From the X-ray diffraction patterns of sintered Ba-hexagonal ferrite, the $Ba_3Co_2Fe_{24}O_{41}$ phase was represented as main phase in the almost sintering conditions. The bulk densities with sintering temperature and decreased at $1400^{\circ}C$. The permittivity ($\varepsilon$') and loss tangent of permittivity ($\varepsilon$"/$\varepsilon$') of $Ba_3Co_2Fe_{24}O_{41}$ ceramics increased and decreased with sintering temperature, respectively. The permeability of $Ba_3Co_2Fe_{24}O_{41}$ ceramics decreased with sinteirng temperature. The loss tangent of permeability was not changed compared each other with sintering temperature. The bulk density of $Ba_3Co_2Fe_{24}O_{41}$ ceramics sintered at $1300^{\circ}C$ was 4.79 g/$cm^3$. The permittivity, loss tangent of permittivity and permeability, loss tangent of permeability were 19.896, 0.1718 and 14.218, 0.2046 at 210 MHz, respectively.

  • In this study, development of a new LTCC material using a non-glassy system was attempted with respect to reducing the fabrication process steps and cost down. Lowering the sintering temperature can be achieved by liquid phase sintering. For LTCC application, the starting material must have quality factor as high as possible in microwave frequency range. And also, the material should have a low dielectric constant for enhancing the signal propagation speed. Regarding these factors, dielectric constants of various materials were estimated by the Clausius-Mosotti equation. Among them, CaWO$_4$ was tamed out the suitable LTCC material. CaWO$_4$ can be sintered up to 98% of full density at 1200$^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours. It's measured dielectric constant, quality factor, and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 10.15, 62880GHz, and -27.8ppm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively. In order to modify the dielectric properties and densification temperature, 0.5∼1.5 wt% LiF were added to CaWO$_4$. LiF addition reduced the sintering temperature/time down to 800$^{\circ}C$/10∼30min due to the reactive liquid phase sintering. Dielectric constant lowered from 10.15 to 9.38 and Q x fo increased up to 92000GHz with increasing LiF content.

  • In this paper, in order to develop the low temperature sintering ceramics for multilayer piezoelectric transformer, PMN-PZT ceramcis using $Li_2CO_3$ and $Bi_2O_3$ as sintering aids were manufactured, and their microstructural, dielectric and piezoelectric properties were investigated. The sintering aids were proved to lower the sintering temperature of piezoelectric ceramics due to the effect of $LiBiO_2$ liquid phase. At 0.1wt% $Li_2CO_3$ added specimen sintered at $970[^{\circ}C]$, electromechanical coupling factor(Kp), mechanical quality factor(Qm) and dielectric constant showed the optimum values of 0.50, 2,413 and 1,245, respectively, for multilayer piezoelectric transformer application.

  • Microstructural and mechanical properties of Ni-YSZ fabricated using SPS processing have been investigated at various sintering temperatures. Our study shows samples to be applied as a SOFC anode have the proper porosity of 40% and high hardness when processed at $1100^{\circ}C$. These results are comparable to the values obtained at $100-200^{\circ}C$ higher sintering temperature reported by others. This result is important because when the fabrication processes are performed above $1100^{\circ}C$, the mechanical property starts to decrease drastically. This is caused by the fast grain coarsening at the higher temperature, which initiates a mismatch between thermal expansion coefficients of Ni and YSZ and induces cracks as well.

  • In this study, monolithic liquid phase sintered SiC (LPS-SiC) was made by the hot pressing method with nano-SiC powder, whose particle size is 30 nm and less on the average. Alumina ($Al_{2}O_{3}$), yttria ($Y_{2}O_{3}$), and silica ($S_{i}O_{2}$) were used for sintering additives. To investigate the effects of $S_{i}O_{2}$, the $Al_{2}O_{3}/Y_{2}O_{3}$ composition was fixed and the ratio of $S_{i}O_{2}$ was changed, with seven different ratios tested. And to investigate the effects of the sintering temperature, the sintering temperature was changed, with $1760^{\circ}C,\;1780_{\circ}C$, and $1800_{\circ}C$ being used with a $S_{i}O_{2}$ ratio of 3 wt%. The materials were sintered for 1 hour at $1760^{\circ}C,\;1780^{\circ}C$ and $1800^{\circ}C$ under a pressure of 20 MPa. The effects on sintering from the sintering system used, as well as from the composition of the sintering additives, were investigated by density measurements. Mechanical properties, such as flexural strength, were investigated to ensure the optimum conditions for a matrix of SiCf/SiC composites. Sintered densityand the flexural strength of fabricated LPS-SiC increased with an increase in sintering temperature. Particularly, the relative density of a sintered body at $1800^{\circ}C$ with a non-content of $S_{i}O_{2}$, a specimen of AYSO-1800, was 95%. Also, flexural strength was about 750MPa.

  • 0.75BF-0.25BT ceramics were prepared by sintering at $980-1040^{\circ}C$ in air or under atmosphere powder. A sample with 1 mole %-excess $Bi_2O_3$ was also prepared to compensate for $Bi_2O_3$-evaporation. Physical and piezoelectric properties of these three samples were compared. When the sintering temperature increased from $980^{\circ}C$ to $1040^{\circ}C$, the density of the sample sintered in air decreased continuously due to Bi-evaporation. Due to the suppression of Bi-evaporation, the sample sintered under atmosphere powder had a higher density at sintering temperatures above $1000^{\circ}C$ than did the sample sintered in air. The addition of 1 mole %-excess $Bi_2O_3$ successfully compensated for Bi-evaporation and kept the density at the higher value until $1020^{\circ}C$. Grain size increased continuously when the sintering temperature increased from 980 to $1040^{\circ}C$, irrespective of the sintering atmosphere. When the sintering temperature increased, the piezoelectric constant ($d_{33}$) and the electromechanical coupling factor ($k_p$) increased for all samples. The sample with 1 mole % excess-$Bi_2O_3$ showed the highest density and the best piezoelectric properties at sintering temperature of $1020^{\circ}C$.

  • Outlet of gas has been a big problem in deforming rubber or plastic in pressing mold. Air vent has been used to solve the problem, but it has weak points such as the increased cost, the increased number of process, and vent marks on the surface of a produce. In this study, the sintering method is used for making porous metal mold. Porous metal mold has many open pores, which are very small. When Porous metal mold is used for pressing mold, all process would be made short, produce cost would be down, and it would not leave vent marks on the surface of a produce. Porosity varies from sintering and pressing conditions, which are the pressure of compacting powder, the length of sintering time, sintering temperature and sintering atmosphere etc. This study will find optimized sintering temperature condition for the Porous metal mold.

  • WC-$10C_o$-0.8VC nanocrystalline powders were sintered by spark plasma sintering (SPS) and hot press sintering (HPS), and the microstructure and properties were compared. Results show that dense WC-$10C_o$-0.8VC can be obtained by SPS in several minutes when the sintering temperature is $>1200^{\circ}C$. Sintered at a temperature of $1300^{\circ}C$ the sample prepared by SPS for 3 minutes has higher density, finer grains and better properties than that prepared by HPS for 60 minutes. SPS can be used to prepare nanocrystalline WC-$10C_o$-0.8VC with improved properties when suitable sintering parametesr are chosen.

  • Three kinds of specimen, consisting of the graded pyrophyllite particles alone, a substituent of 8 percent fire clay for the finer portion ($F_2$) of it, and 0.8 percent inorganic binder-added composite were prepared under the following conditions respectively; moisture content=4.5~5.0%, forming pressure=250kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and sintering temperature=1, 000~1, 30$0^{\circ}C$. The various properties such as modulus of rupture, apparent porosity, bulk specific gravity, pore size and pore distributiion were measured in order to collaborate with sintering phenomena. The results obtained are as follows: (1) Apparent porosity isgradually decreased with rising the sintering temperature to 1, 25$0^{\circ}C$. (2) The binder-added specimen showed the lowest value in porosity. (3) The optimum sintering temperature of specimens was considered to be 1, 25$0^{\circ}C$. (4) The wider differences between pore volumes of specimens could be obtained by method of mercurypenetration porosimeter than by the conventional method for porosity.
