A Data Gathering Approach for Wireless Sensor Network with Quadrotor-based Mobile Sink Node

  • In this paper, we use a quadrotor-based mobile sink to gather sensor data from the terrestrial deployed wireless sensor network. By analyzing the flight features of the mobile sink node, we theoretically study the flight constraints of height, velocity, and trajectory of the mobile sink node so as to communicate with the terrestrial wireless sensor network. Moreover, we analyze the data amount which the mobile sink can send when it satisfies these flight constraints. Based on these analysis results, we propose a data acquisition approach for the mobile sink node, which is discussed detailed in terms of network performance such as the transmission delay, packet loss rate, sojourning time and mobile trajectory when given the flying speed and height of the mobile sink node. Extensive simulation results validate the efficiency of the proposed scheme.

  • Compression molding of SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) in a thin plaque with substructures like a rib is involved with the formation of surface defect along the centerline over the rib area called by sink mark depending on process parameters. The surface quality of the external panels in automotive manufacturing is so critical that this kind of defect should be eliminated during manufacturing stages. The effect of process parameters on sink mark formation and the distribution of chopped fiberglasses in the compression molded thin plaque with a rib was experimentally investigated in the present study. In order to estimate the effect of the molding parameters such as molding temperature, mold closing speed, depth of the rib, corner radius of the rib, and final molded part thickness of flat portion on the depth of sink mark and the distribution of fiberglasses in the molded SMC part with the rib under the present experimental conditions, the molding parameters used in experiments were non-dimensionalized equation for predicting the depth of sink mark was determined through dimensional analysis based on the experimental data. The orientation and distribution of fiberglasses and fillers which directly affect the formation and depth of sink mark were investigated by taking the photographs of the cross-sectional area of the molded specimen using scanning electron microscope. The experimental results proposed from this investigation are useful in understanding the formation of sink mark and predicting the depth of sink mark in compression molding of SMC with substructures.

The sink fluid is coming from the two Ekman layers, and the mass transfer from the bulk, inviscid region is dependent on the rotational speed. It is also remarkable to see that all the fluid gathered along the axis flows through a rapidly rotating fluid column with almost the same size as the hole.

It was found that, when the upper free surface was set with no-slip boundary conditions, the Ekman boundary-layer develops not only above the bottom surface but under the top surface. The sink fluid is coming from the two Ekman layers, and the mass transfer from the bulk, inviscid region is dependent on the rotational speed. It is also remarkable to see that all the fluid gathered along the axis flows in a form of rapidly rotating fluid column haying almost the same diameter as the bottom hole.

  • Tube expanding process is for combining a heat-sink plate with hair-pins (Cu-tube) through plastic deformation. The two parts, i. e. , heat-sink plate and hair-pins are they components of a heat-exchanger for an air conditioner. This paper presents the analysis and dynamic modeling of a high-speed tube expander which integrates transfer of parts, fixing of parts, and tube expanding into one process. The 3-dimensional modeling of all the parts for the tube-expander was constructed using CATIA$\circledR$. then the CATIA$\circledR$ models are transferred into visuaINastran$\circledR$ to execute the 3-dimensional animation for checking prescribed cycle-time. The technique presented in this paper has been shown to be effective as a priori tool for verifying the design of a high-speed tube expander.

  • To assist in data collection, the use of a mobile sink has been widely suggested in the literature. Due to the limited sensor node's storage capacity, this manner to collect data induces huge latencies and drop packets. Their buffers will be overloaded and lead to network congestion. Recently, a new bio-inspired optimization algorithm appeared. Researchers were inspired by the swarming mechanism of salps and thus creating what is called the Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA). This paper improves the sink mobility to enhance energy dissipation, throughput, and convergence speed by imitating the salp's movement. The new approach, named the Mobile Sink based on Modified Salp Swarm Algorithm (MSSA), is approved in a heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) data collection. The performance of the MSSA protocol is assessed using several iterations. Results demonstrate that our proposal surpass other literature algorithms in terms of lifespan and throughput.

  • In this study, we peformed optimal design of a composite skid landing gear, one of the solid spring shock absorbers, for light vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. Although a solid spring type has poor energy dissipation capability, it is commonly used for light aircraft where sink speeds are low and shock absorption is non-critical in terms of simplicity, low cost and weight reduction. In this paper, design parameters of solid spring such as sink speed, gear leg length, deflection and landing load factor were reviewed. In order to meet structural requirements such as deflection and strength, finally, we conducted optimal design of the composite skid landing gear for VTOL UAV using genetic algorithm and pattern search algorithm.

  • 고정 싱크를 사용한 센서 네트워크는 싱크 주변 센서 노드에게 많은 부하를 초래하게 되고 이러한 부하는 센서 노드의 배터리 소모로 이어지게 된다. 싱크 주변 센서 노드의 배터리 소모는 전체 센서 네트워크의 수명을 단축시키는 원인이 된다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 모바일 싱크를 사용하여 싱크주변 노드의 부하를 분산시키는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 모바일 싱크는 움직이는 특성을 가지고 있기 때문에 센서 노드와 통신 가능한 시간이 제한된다. 또한 통신 중에도 모바일 싱크와 센서 노드 간 거리가 연속적으로 변하기 때문에 통신 환경 역시 변하게 된다. 모바일 싱크를 사용한 센서 네트워크는 이러한 제약 사항을 해결하며 각 센서 노드들로부터 균등한 양의 데이터를 수집할 수 있어야 한다. 균등치 못한 데이터 수집은 실시간적 센서 네트워크 응용분야에서 긴급한 사건 처리를 가능하지 않게 한다. 본 논문에서는 모바일 싱크를 이용한 센서 네트워크에서 센서 노드들로부터 균등한 데이터 수집을 위한 스케줄링 기법인 FQMS를 제안한다. FQMS는 모바일 싱크와 센서 노드 간 통신 환경과 시간 제약을 고려하여 균등한 데이터 수집을 보장한다. 실험을 통해 제안된 FQMS와 기존의 스케줄링 기법들의 성능을 비교 평가한다. 실험 결과를 통해 제안된 기법이 무선 센서 노드들로 부터의 데이터 수집에 있어서 가장 균등한 데이터 수집을 수행함을 보인다.

  • 무선 센서 망에서 실시간 전송 연구들은 실시간 요구사항을 만족시키기 위해 소스 노드부터 싱크 노드까지 응용에서 요구되는 전달 속도보다 높은 전달 속도를 갖는 노드를 이용하는 방안을 제안한다. 이 요구 전달 속도는 패킷이 싱크에 도달하기까지 고정되기 때문에, 전송 범위 내 실시간 요구사항을 만족하는 노드가 없는 혼잡 지역에서 실시간 전송을 보장하기 어렵다. 이 방식은 싱크 노드에 가까워질수록 패킷의 실제 전달 속도는 높아지는 특성을 갖는다. 즉, 패킷은 실시간 전송을 만족하는 시간보다 이른 시간에 싱크 노드에 전달될 수 있다. 본 논문은 패킷 전달 과정에서 발생하는 시간적 이득을 이용하여 패킷의 전달 속도를 조절함으로써 향상된 실시간 전송 방안을 제안한다. 송신 노드는 수신된 패킷 정보를 이용하여 다음 전달 노드를 선택하기 위한 요구 전달 속도를 재계산한다. 시뮬레이션 결과는 실시간 전송관점에서 제안 방안이 기존 방안들보다 실시간 전송 성공률이 향상됨을 보인다.

Thermal Model for Power Converters Based on Thermal Impedance

  • In this paper, the superposition principle of a heat sink temperature rise is verified based on the mathematical model of a plate-fin heat sink with two mounted heat sources. According to this, the distributed coupling thermal impedance matrix for a heat sink with multiple devices is present, and the equations for calculating the device transient junction temperatures are given. Then methods to extract the heat sink thermal impedance matrix and to measure the Epoxy Molding Compound (EMC) surface temperature of the power Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) instead of the junction temperature or device case temperature are proposed. The new thermal impedance model for the power converters in Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) drivers is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink. The obtained simulation results are validated with experimental results. Compared with the Finite Element Method (FEM) thermal model and the traditional thermal impedance model, the proposed thermal model can provide a high simulation speed with a high accuracy. Finally, the temperature rise distributions of a power converter with two control strategies, the maximum junction temperature rise, the transient temperature rise characteristics, and the thermal coupling effect are discussed.
