The dual singular function method [DSFM] is a solver for corner sigulaity problem. We already construct DSFM in previous reserch to solve the Stokes equations including one singulairity at each reentrant corner, but we find out a crucial incorrection in the proof of well-posedness and regularity of dual singular function. The goal of this paper is to prove accuracy and well-posdness of DSFM for Stokes equations including two singulairities at each corner. We also introduce new applicable algorithms to slove multi-singulrarity problems in a complicated domain.
This paper presents a comparative study of analytical method and finite element method (FEM) for analysis of a continuous contact problem. The problem consists of two elastic layers loaded by means of a rigid circular punch and resting on semi-infinite plane. It is assumed that all surfaces are frictionless and only compressive normal tractions can be transmitted through the contact areas. Firstly, analytical solution of the problem is obtained by using theory of elasticity and integral transform techniques. Then, finite element model of the problem is constituted using ANSYS software and the two dimensional analysis of the problem is carried out. The contact stresses under rigid circular punch, the contact areas, normal stresses along the axis of symmetry are obtained for both solutions. The results show that contact stresses and the normal stresses obtained from finite element method (FEM) provide boundary conditions of the problem as well as analytical results. Also, the contact areas obtained from finite element method are very close to results obtained from analytical method; disagree by 0.03-1.61%. Finally, it can be said that there is a good agreement between two methods.

In this paper, a receding contact problem for an elastic layer resting on a half plane is considered. The layer is pressed by two rectangular stamps placed symmetrically. It is assumed that the contact surfaces are frictionless and only compressive traction can be transmitted through the contact surfaces. In addition the effect of body forces is neglected. Firstly, the problem is solved analytically based on theory of elasticity. In this solution, the problem is reduced into a system of singular integral equations in which half contact length and contact pressures are unknowns using boundary conditions and integral transform techniques. This system is solved numerically using Gauss-Jacobi integral formulation. Secondly, two dimensional finite element analysis of the problem is carried out using ANSYS. The dimensionless quantities for the contact length and the contact pressures are calculated under various stamp size, stamp position and material properties using both solutions. The analytic results are verified by comparison with finite element results.
Abdi's numerical method(ref.13) for representing a stress singularity by shifting the mid-side nodes of isoparametric elements is reviewed. A simple technique to obtain the optimal position of the mid-side nodes in quadratic isoparametric finite element is presented. From this technique we can directly obtain the position of the side-nodes adjacent to the crack tip. It is also observed that the present technique provides good accuracy for the expression of the opening displacement and the determination of the mid-side nodes for more wide range of material properties than that obtained by Abdicant the finite element method is applied to determine stress intensity factors for pressurized crack perpendicular to and terminating at the interface of two bonded dissimilar materials. A proper definition for stress intensity factors of a crack perpendicular to bimaterial interface is provided. It is based upon a near-tip displacement solutions on the crack surface for interface crack between two dissimilar materials. Numerical testing is carried out with the eight-node and six-node elements. The results obtained are compared with the previous solutions.
The major objective of this paper is to study the receding contact problem between two functional graded layers under a flat indenter. The gravity is assumed negligible, and the shear moduli of both layers are assumed to vary exponentially along the thickness direction. In the absence of body forces, the problem is reduced to a system of Fredholm singular integral equations with the contact pressure and contact size as unknowns via Fourier integral transform, which is transformed into an algebraic one by the Gauss-Chebyshev quadratures and polynomials of both the first and second kinds. Then, an iterative speediest descending algorithm is proposed to numerically solve the system of algebraic equations. Both semi-analytical and finite element method, FEM solutions for the presented problem validate each other. To improve the accuracy of the numerical result of FEM, a graded FEM solution is performed to simulate the FGM mechanical characteristics. The results reveal the potential links between the contact stress/size and the indenter size, the thickness, as well as some other material properties of FGM.
In this paper, a receding contact problem for an elastic layer resting on two quarter planes is considered. The layer is pressed by a stamp and distributed loads. It is assumed that the contact surfaces are frictionless and only compressive traction can be transmitted through the contact surfaces. In addition the effect of body forces are neglected. Firstly, the problem is solved analytically based on theory of elasticity. In this solution, the problem is reduced into a system of singular integral equations in which contact areas and contact stresses are unknowns using boundary conditions and integral transform techniques. This system is solved numerically using Gauss-Jacobi integral formulation. Secondly, two dimensional finite element analysis of the problem is carried out using ANSYS. The dimensionless quantities for the contact areas and the contact pressures are calculated under various distributed load conditions using both solutions. It is concluded that the position and the magnitude of the distributed load have an important role on the contact area and contact pressure distribution between layer and quarter plane contact surface. The analytic results are verified by comparison with finite element results.

The dual singular function method(DSFM) is a numerical algorithm to get optimal solution including corner singularities for Poisson and Helmholtz equations. In this paper, we apply DSFM to solve heat equation which is a time dependent problem. Since the DSFM for heat equation is based on DSFM for Helmholtz equation, it also need to use Sherman-Morrison formula. This formula requires linear solver n + 1 times for elliptic problems on a domain including n reentrant corners. However, the DSFM for heat equation needs to pay only linear solver once per each time iteration to standard numerical method and perform optimal numerical accuracy for corner singularity problems. Because the Sherman-Morrison formula is rather complicated to apply computation, we introduce a simplified formula by reanalyzing the Sherman-Morrison method.

The paper deals with the problem related to the modelling of riveted assemblies for crashworthiness analysis of full-scale complete aircraft structures. Comparisons between experiments and standard FE computations on high-energy accidental situations onto aluminium riveted panels show that macroscopic plastic strains are not sufficiently localised in the FE shells connected to rivet elements. The main reason is related to the structural embrittlement caused by holes, which are currently not modelled. Consequently, standard displacement FE models do not succeed in initialising and propagating the rupture in sheet metal plates and along rivet rows as observed in the experiments. However, the literature survey show that it is possible to formulate super-elements featuring defects that both give accurate singular strain fields and are compatible with standard displacement finite elements. These super-elements can be related to the displacement model of the hybrid-Trefftz principle of the finite element method, which is a kind of domain decomposition method. A feature of hybrid-Trefftz finite elements is that they are mainly used for elastic computations. It is thus proposed to investigate the possibility of formulating a hybrid displacement finite element, including the effects of a hole, dedicated to crashworthiness analysis of full-scale aeronautic structures.
A shape function for element free Galerkin method is carved from Shepard interpolant of singular weight and consistency condition. Thus present shape function is an interpolation and has no singularities. The shape function is applied to cantilever bending problems and gives good results in comparison with beam theory. Finally it is shown that the coupling with finite element method is made easily without any additional treaties.
