  • The application of A.C. motor for servo system is rapidly increased according to the recent advance of power electronics and digital control techniques. The induction motor which has a simple structure and needs less maintenance has become to be used widely in the industrial field for the speed and position control recently. In this paper, the full-bridge resonant inverter is applied to the speed control of single phase inducting motor. The digital PID control algorithm is used and the control parameter is determined by the Zigler-Nichols transient response method. The speed control is carried out by the one chip micro-processor(intel EV 8097BH) and control program is developed by the assembly language. By the experimental result, it is confirmed that the speed of single phase induction motor driven by full bridge series inverter can be smoothly controlled by a digital PID controller.

  • This study is initiated to solve the problem that the development of an electric machine to drive heavy horse-power load required in the rural district, where only single phase supply is available, is very urgent. As a method for this purpose, the single/three phase converter by single phase induction machine with a tapped auxiliary winding, running unloaded mechanically under single-phase source and supplying three-phase output to a loaded 3-phase induction motor, is devised and the pilot machine is put into test. Analysis based on hybrid equivalent circuit for the phase converter and symmertical component theory for the 3-phase load motor and practical experiment result in that optimum auxiliary winding ratio is to be 1.25 rather than theoretical .root.3/2 in order to keep the voltage unbalance ratio of 3-phase output from the converter as low as possible in both cases of starting and running the load motor.

  • This paper describes a one-chip micom controller and phase angle control method for self-starting and energy saving of single-phase induction motor. The proposed method is based on the optimal efficiency control which is running by variable phase angle of main winding current such as to maintain the maximum efficiency characteristics of the motor, in voltage control with TRIAC. Experiments are focused on a capacitor starting single-phase induction motor. The optimal energy saving by variable phase angle control are verified by experimental results. Also, auxiliary winding was controlled by electronic starting switch.

  • The contriving equivalent circuit of single phase induction motor which does not separate the primary leakage reactance and the secondary leakage reactance by the revolving field theory, and the graphically calculating method of the characteristics with T-type circle diagram of three phase induction motor which does not suppose the primary leakage reactance can be drawn up only by the no load test, the lock test, and measuring the resistance of stator winding are suggested in this paper. The method which can calculate the parameters of the equivalent circuit and the characteristics with no load test, lock test and measuring resistance of stator windings is suggested in this paper. Considered the exciting current in lock test, we could calculate very accurate characteristics of the single phase induction motor.

  • The growth on consideration of energy savings and motor efficiency has caused the LSPM(Line Start Permanent Magnet Motor) to be focused as a substitute for conventional induction motors. A Line start permanent magnet motor able to be driven at synchronous speed is designed based on a single phase induction motor in this paper. The single phase LSPM is identical to the induction motor except a permanent magnet is installed in the rotor. As the permanent magnet influences the characteristics of both transient state and steady state, a design considering both starting and synchronization conditions was used. In this paper, by adopting DOE, a single phase motor has been designed showing high power and smooth start. Also, optimal model is selected by weighting function. And the characteristics demagnetization are analyzed according to the variation of magnet shape. Finally, to verify the design results, a prototype was measured.

  • The recent emphasis on energy conservation demands an improvement of the efficiency of single-phase induction motors. To take the efficiency operation of the capacitor run single-phase induction motor with auxiliary and main winding, it is very important to select the capacitance value. This paper describes the theoretical analysis method of a single-phase induction motor which is based on the rotating field theory, using the method of symmetrical components. The optimal selection method of capacitance is proposed.

  • The purpose of this paper is the rotor design of a single-phase LSPM(Line-start permanent magnet) motor. A single-phase LSPM motor has a permanent magnet in the rotor that is same as induction motor. For that reason, magnet is operated by breaking torque in starting region and alignment torque in driving region. Therefore, we need the design process considering the trade-off relationship. In this paper, we propose the design process of a single-phase LSPM motor for a high starting torque and efficiency with FEM. And we use Taguchi Method for considering tolerance in manufacture. Finally, we compared the LSPM motor that is designed in this paper and conventional induction motor.

  • Contemporary power systems demand efficient and sustainable technologies. Single-phase induction motors, while widely used, face efficiency challenges due to inherent rotor losses. Proposed solutions include the Line-start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (LSPMSM), leveraging permanent magnets for enhanced energy density but facing demagnetization and cost issues. Alternatively, the Line-start Synchronous Reluctance Motor (LSRM) operates as a hybrid motor without permanent magnets, reducing rotor losses and potentially improving efficiency. This paper focuses on designing an LSRM rotor for air conditioner compressors, analyzing start-up characteristics and efficiency through finite element analysis. A comparative study with single-phase induction motors provides insights for future motor technology selection, balancing efficiency and other requirements.

  • Various kinds of practical machines using the single phase induction motor (SPIM) are utilized to control both speed and torque. In particular, the capacitor-run type SPIM has the characteristic that allows the motor torque to be altered by auxiliary capacitance variation. In this study, we manifest an equivalent model having a more simplified configuration, and clarify the relationship between torque and capacitance. Also, we design an experimental controller that is able to perform speed control with ease by the phase angle control of the AC input voltage. Validity of this study is confirmed through the simulation and experimental results obtained.

  • In the field of factory automation, single phase induction motors are frequently used for speed control application because of its simplicity and low cost. In this paper, we compare the performances of a single phase induction type speed control motor with a BLDC motor. From the experimental results in the controllable torque-speed load range, the efficiency characteristics and safe operation load areas are compared for each type sample motor.
