  • In this work, we have prepared platinum catalyst by various methods, investigated fuel cell performance and compared performance with commercially available $20\%$ Pt supported on carbon (Pt/C) catalyst. We have found that Pt/C prepared by reduction of chloroplatinic acid in mixed solvent (water+ethylene glycol) gives better performance compared to that produced by reduction of aqueous chloroplatinic acid, which can be attributed to smaller catalyst particle size and lower agglomeration in the mixed solvent. We have also prepared a novel platinum electrocatalyst by depositing platinum on Nafion coated carbon powder and it shows great promise. The performance of electrode prepared using $20\%Pt$ onn Nafion coated carbon mixed with Pt/C was found to be higher than the performance of electrodes using commercially available $20\%$ Pt/C, up to a current density of about $1100mA/cm^2$. The cell voltages obtained were respectively 621 and 603mV, at a current density of: $1000mA/cm^2$, in a single cell using $0.25mgPt/cm^2$ and Nafion 10035 membrane at $80^{\circ}C$ using hydrogen/oxygen reactants at 1 atm pressure.

  • This study addresses the analytic models for estimating the capacity and performance of the multi-carrierCDMA system where several carriers would be assigned to a single cell to accommodate the required trafficdemand. Two key features of the multi-carrier CDMA system, carrier selections of new calls and inter-camerhard handoffs, are accommodated in the models, Computation experiments are conducted to show the effectiveness of the proposed model.

  • Catalyst coated membrane [CCM] type and catalyst coated substrate [CCS] type of membrane electrode assembly [MEA] were manufactured and evaluated their performance. Degradation test were conducted to find the difference of long term stability in two types of MEA and the factor for performance degradation problem occurred. Performance degradation test of single cell in two different types of MEA were carried out when current density was $200mA/cm^{2}$. The degradation test had proceeded for 230 hours and performance degradation was checked by I-V curve and impedance measurement at regular intervals. Also, MEA before/after operation and changes of catalyst layer were characterized by SEM, TEM, and XRD. Maximum power density of CCM type was higher than that of CCS type. Meanwhile, an increase of particle size of catalyst and an increase of impedance resistance after long term operation were observed. In the case of using CCM type MEA, the performance was deteriorated 38% of initial performance. In the case of using CCS type MEA, the performance was deteriorated 43% of initial performance. In consideration of difference of initial performance, performance of CCM type is higher than that of CCS type but both types had similar problems during degradation test.

  • The most important factor in enhancing the performance of an optical device is to minimize reflection and increasing transmittance of light for a broad wavelength range. The choice of appropriate coating material is crucial in decreasing reflection losses at the substrate. The purpose of this review is to highlight anti-reflection coating (ARC) materials that can be applied to silicon solar cell and glass substrate for minimizing reflection losses. The optical and electrical behavior of ARC on a substrate is highly dependent on thickness and refractive index (RI) of ARC films that are being deposited on it. The coating techniques and performance of single and multi-layered ARC films after coated on a substrate in a wide range of wavelength spectrum will be studied in the paper.

  • In this paper, a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamic model of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) with serpentine flow channel is presented. A steady state, single phase and isothermal numerical model has been established to investigate the influence of the GDL (Gas Diffusion Layer) parameters. The GDL is made of a porous material such as carbon cloth, carbon paper or metal wire mesh. For the simplicity, the GDL is modeled as a block of material having numerous pathways through which gaseous reactants and liquid water can pass. The porosity, permeability and thickness of the GDL, which are employed in the model parameters significantly affect the PEMFC performance at the high current region.

  • Nano-structured porous carbon fiber(PCF) for the catalyst supports of the direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) were prepared from the mesophase pitch by using the nano-MgO powders. Specific surface area of the PCFs was $8{\sim}58m^2/g$ and surface pore structures had almost meso pore diameter of 10~20 nm which were depending on the amount of MgO spheres. Aqueous reduction method was used to load 60 wt% PtRu on the prepared PCF supports. The electro-oxidation activity and single cell performance of the 60 wt% Pt-Ru catalysts were measured by cyclic voltammetry and unit cell test. The performances of these catalysts increased by 5~10% compared with one of commercial catalyst.

  • In this paper, a novel detection method called the joint multiple frequency cell (JMFC) detection is addressed for spread spectrum code acquisition in the presence of residual Doppler frequency offset (RDFO). When the RDFO exists, the correlation peak used for detection during the acquisition process is split into several lower neighboring peaks, resulting in severe degradation in the detection performance, and consequently, in the overall acquisition performance. In the JMFC detection, a decision variable for detection is formed by combining several consecutive correlator outputs, so that the reduction in the correlation value due to the RDFO can be alleviated. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme can offer better detection performance over the conventional scheme based on the cell-by-cell detection.

  • In this paper, a priority schedling and a flow control algorithm with hysteresis effect are proposed for high-speed networks. A mathematical model for the flow control is proposed and a cell transition probability from this model is found. And the performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed by a computer simulation. According to the simulation results, it can be shown that the priority scheduling and the flow control with hysteresis effect get the cell loss probability 0.061 better and the average delay 100ms better and the average delay 100ms beter than those of single threshold.

  • Small size polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) stacks were prepared using carbon composite and graphite bipolar plates and their performances were evaluated on reactant gas and operating time. In comparison to single cell and stack, it was identified that home-made bipolar plate was well-designed to maximize stack performance as high as that of single cell. During long-term operation, the performances of stacks using two different kinds of bipolar plates were compared. The decrease of performance in both stacks was accelerated with increasing load current. It was observed from stack test that the stack performance using carbon composite bipolar plate was very similar to that using graphite bipolar plate.

  • A fuel cell (FC) system includes a fuel processor plus subsystems to manage air, water, and thermal energy, and electric power. The overall system is high-priced and needs peripheral devices. In this paper, a FC simulator is designed and constructed with the electrical characteristics of a fuel cell generation (FCG) system, using uses a simple buck converter to overcome these disadvantages. The characteristic voltage and current (V-I) curve for the FC simulator is controlled by a simplified linear function. In addition, to verify FCG system performance and operation, a full-bridge DC/DC converter and a single-phase DC/AC inverter were designed and constructed for FC applications. Close agreement between the simulation and experimental results confirms the validity and usefulness of the proposed FC simulator.
