  • The aim of study to compare the change trajectory of socioeconomic deprivation and depression the middle-aged in the single-person household and that in the Multi-person Household and to confirm the difference between the two groups. It is to examine the Longitudinal relationship between socioeconomic deprivation and depression. To do so, we studied 4,212 single-person household and Multi-person Household cases in the 7th to 11th Korea Welfare Panel Study (2012~2016). To verify the difference between both groups, we go on analysis with the latent growth curve model. According to our analysis, it is confirmed that the socioeconomic deprivation and depression of single-person households is higher than those of Multi-person Household and thus there is meaningful difference between both groups. Also, we reveal that the socioeconomic deprivation of Multi-person Household tends to decease while that of single-person household doesn't decline significantly. Furthermore, it appears that the socioeconomic deprivation is directly proportional to the depression in both groups. This research has meaningful significance in that we discussed in depth the relationship between the socioeconomic deprivation and depression of both groups, suggesting that welfare approach should be needed in the middle-aged in the single-person household.

  • This study was conducted to provide basic data for evolving a strategy for the development of Vietnam's customized HMR program and formulating a marketing strategy by analyzing the characteristics and variations of HMR consumption behavior by household size. The results of the analysis were as follows: The number of single households using HMR as a general meal at home was higher than multiple-person households. Moreover, there was a high preference for 'ready to heat' and 'ready to eat' products, which are relatively easy to cook and prepare. It was observed that single households preferred department stores, hypermarkets, and convenience stores for purchasing HMR when compared to multiple households, and that single households preferred to acquire information through TV/radio and internet advertisements. Among the HMR selection attributes, single households valued taste, quantity, price, preparation process, preparation time, and ease of storage as important. Reflecting on the results of this study, when developing HMR in Vietnam, it is necessary to develop a product that can nutritionally replace the general meal with a focus on convenience. In addition, there is a need for products that possess various attributes such as convenience, health, and eco-friendliness.

  • This study investigates supply patterns and residential characteristics of the Urban-type Housing in Seoul. There have been 3,336 buildings and 71,790 housing units approved until the end of 2012. One-room apartments and small units less than 30 $m^2$ of residential area amount to 81% and 82% of total units, respectively. Major findings are as follows. First, single- and two-person households less than 30 years of age are mostly lived in the housing. Respondents are mainly professional and white-collar (43%) and service and sales workers (27%). Most of them are mid-income classes (67%), which is twice more than that of single- and two-person households in Seoul. They pay 672 thousand won in rent more than average rent of mid-income class. The rent to income ratios are 29.9% for single households and 24.5% for two-person households, which are higher than that of mid-income bracket. Third, their satisfaction level is relatively high in internal environment and access to public service facilities, but not in external environment and community service facilities. They are satisfied with security and daylight, walking and safety, access to public transport and parking space, but not with noise and vibration, natural environment, access to park and cultural and sports facilities, and most community service facilities. It is necessary to reexamine the articles of deregulation and prepare design standards while considering different housing and locational types.

  • I would like to design a customized furniture for one-person households that have emerged as mainstream in modern society. In particular, I focused on the tendency of generations to improve the quality of life, and wanted to design the aesthetic furniture close to art furniture. To this end, I look at art furniture in domestic and overseas furniture. and present the concept of combined custom design based on current trends. The combined custom design differs from the existing one by creating separate designs for each part and fusing them to enable more diverse and aggressive molding. This is in harmony with the active tendency of one-person households who shows a lot of interest in the quality of life. Especially, it is suitable for small quantity production of various kinds, so it can be produced in the existing craft workshop system, and the two tables can confirm the possibility of the morphological concept according to actual combined custom design.

  • The purpose of this study is to conduct research from qualitative aspects regarding the development of substantive design research for furniture brand and detailed development direction as single household has increased rapidly. In case of research method, the usability evaluation questionnaire was produced based on Honey Comb Model of Peter Morville. As a result, the single-person household including other household show preference for furniture for the one-man households and tend to purchase and use them. Nonetheless, it was found that places for sharing opinion and reselling the furniture are greatly lacking. Therefore, it is required to vitalize community market for the one-man household. And it is expected that this result of research provides useful implication concerning the single household as well as academic significance to offer primary information of furniture brand development-related research.

  • Due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19 and an aging population and an increase in single-person households, the amount of time that household members spend doing various activities at home has increased significantly. In this study, we propose an algorithm for detecting anomalies in members of single-person households, including the elderly, based on the results of human movement and fall detection using an image sensor algorithm through home CCTV, an activity sensor algorithm using an acceleration sensor built into a smartphone, and a 2D LiDAR sensor-based LiDAR sensor algorithm. However, each single sensor-based algorithm has a disadvantage in that it is difficult to detect anomalies in a specific situation due to the limitations of the sensor. Accordingly, rather than using only a single sensor-based algorithm, we developed a fusion method that combines each algorithm to detect anomalies in various situations. We evaluated the performance of algorithms through the data collected by each sensor, and show that even in situations where only one algorithm cannot be used to detect accurate anomaly event through certain scenarios we can complement each other to efficiently detect accurate anomaly event.

  • This study explored housing situation and expectations of young (age between 20 and 34 years) single-person Jeon-se renters and monthly renters with deposit in relation with their family support and own housing cost burden status. Major findings from the analysis of 1,695,729 households were as follows: (1) Among subjects, 27.4% received family supports to pay their rent deposit, and 39.4% had more 'own housing cost burdens' to have housing costs minus the amount supported by their family be 30% or more of their income. (2) More than 11% were found to be 'more burdened' despite receipt of family supports. (3) Family support status was found to be related to formation of first-time households and tenure changes, while own housing cost burden was found to be related to current housing situation and previous and next housing size changes. (4) Households received family supports showed a greater proportion of first-time households or households experienced tenure upgrades. (5) 'Less burdened' households tended to expect housing size upgrade in their next move more positively. Based on the study findings, it was suggested to extend supply of rental housing and housing subsidy targeting young renters in conjunction with programs to encourage their savings.

  • The goal of this research is to explore quantitative and residential features and spatial patterns of two-person households to suggest policy implications for housing supply and development in Seoul. Major findings of this study are as follows. First, the number of two-person households has increased rapidly mainly due to the growth of the elderly and single-parent households. They are mainly composed of the elderly over 60s and the youth of 30s of householder age. They are less likely to have well-paying jobs, and thus more likely to suffer from poverty. They are also inclined to live in rental and small-sized residential units and spatial segregation between the youth and the elderly became serious. In addition, their residential area can be classified into four types: area adjacent to employment centers, hinterland of urban centers, affordable multi-family housing area and redeveloped apartment area. It is necessary to change the current housing policy directions to take changing population and household structure into consideration. Also, diversified housing strategies and programs should be prepared to consider various household types and their needs and demands. Place-based strategies for housing supply and development are needed in consideration of spatial patterns and locational attributes of two-person households. Attention needs to be paid to resolving the social issue of residential segregation between different generations.
