An experimental investigation is presented to study the effect nozzle spacing, jet to plate spacing and Reynolds number on the local heat transfer to normally upward impinging submerged circular water jets on a flat heated surface. Nozzle arrays are a single jet(nozzle dia. = 8 mm), a row of 3 jets(nozzle dia. = 4.6 mm, nozzle spacing = 37.5 mm) and a row of 5 jets(nozzle dia. = 3.6 mm, nozzle spacing = 25 mm), and jet to plate spacing ranging from 16∼80 mm(H/D = 2∼10) is tested. Reynolds number based on single jet exit condition is varied 30000∼70000($V_o$ = 3∼7 m/s). Except for the condition of H/D = 10, the average Nusselt number of multi-jet is higher than that of single jet. For H/D = 2, average Nusselt number is increased by 50.3∼82.5% for a row of 3 jets and by 52.9∼65.2% on a row of 5 jets when compared to the average Nusselt number on the single jet.
The dynamic behaviors of the single vortex in a reacting and non-reacting methane-air jet flow were investigated numerically. The numerical method was based on a predictor-corrector for low Mach number flow A two-step global reaction mechanism was adopted as a combustion model. After fuel and air were developed entirely in computational domain, the single vortex was generated by an axisymmetric jet that was impulsed to emit a cold fuel. Through comparisons of single vortex in reacting and non-reacting jet flow, it was found that global dynamic behaviors and the mechanisms leading to the formation, transport processes of vortex ring were influenced significantly by heat release from reaction. In addition, the interaction between a single vortex and flame bulge generated by buoyance effect in a reacting jet flow was found.

A continuous type side jet controller which has four nozzles with thrust control devices was considered. It is deployed to a missile for high maneuverability and fast controllability in the terminal guidance phase. However, it causes more complex aerodynamic jet interactions between the side jet and the supersonic free stream than does the conventional impulse type side jet with a small single thruster. In this paper, a numerical investigation of the jet interference effects for the missile equipped with a continuous type side jet thruster is presented. A three-dimensional flow field was simulated by using a commercial unstructured-based CFD solver. The numerical simulation method was validated through comparison with wind tunnel test results for the single jet. The method of defining jet direction for this type of side jet control to minimize simulation cases was also introduced. Flow fields investigation and jet interaction effects for various flow conditions, jet pressure ratios and defined jet direction conditions were performed. From the numerical simulation for the continuous type side jet, extensive aerodynamic interference data were obtained to construct an aerodynamic coefficients database for precise missile control.

The spray characteristics of jet in crossflow (JICF) to improve the atomization and mixing characteristics of liquid Jet, while minimizing the impact on crossflow, were studied experimentally. By varying the temperature, velocity, pressure of crossflow and the speed, pressure of liquid Jet, the spray boundary (outer boundary, inner boundary) with the change of crossflow and liquid jet momentum ratio (q) were measured and led the experimental formula, compared with the results of previous work. Specifically, when the jet penetration with the shape of injector were measured, in the case of dual orifice Injector, under the influence of front orifice, the jet penetration of back orifice was improved approximately 18% ($L_h$ = 4 mm), compared with single orifice injector.

Single-phase convection and nucleate boiling heat transfer were locally investigated for confined planar water jets. The detailed distributions of the wall temperature and the convection coefficient as well as the typical boiling curves were discussed. The curve for the single-phase convection indicated the developing laminar boundary layer, accompanied by monotonic increase of the wall temperature in the stream direction. Boiling was initiated from the furthest downstream as heat flux increased. Heat transfer variation according to the streamwise location was reduced as heat flux increased enough to create the vigorous nucleate boiling. Velocity effects were considered for the confined free-surface jet. Higher velocity of the jet caused the boiling incipient to be delayed more. The transition to turbulence precipitated by the bubble-induced disturbance was obvious only for the highest velocity, which enabled the boiling incipient to start in the middle of the heated surface, rather than the furthest downstream as was the case of the moderate and low velocities. The temperature at offset line were somewhat tower than those at the centerline for single-phase convection and partial boiling, and these differences were reduced as the nucleate boiling developed. For the region prior to transition, the convection coefficient distributions were similar in both cases while the temperatures were somewhat lower in the submerged jet. For single-phase convection, transition was initiated at $x/W{\cong}2.5$ and completed soon for the submerged jet, but the onset of transition was retarded to the distance at $x/W{\cong}6$ for the fee-surface jet.
Large eddy simulation of a circular jet at the Reynolds number of 10000 is performed to investigate turbulence suppression effect with single frequency excitation at the non-dimensional frequency of 0.017. Instantaneous flow fields show that, with excitation, naturally occurring energetic vortices are suppressed through earlier saturation and breakdown of the shear layer vortices into fine grained turbulence. Due to the excitation, the Reynolds stresses are larger for the excited case near the jet and turbulence suppression begins afterward. The Reynolds normal stresses show largest suppression in the shear layer near the jet and in the centerline further downstream, while the Reynolds shear stress shows largest suppression in the shear layer at all the downstream locations.
In this paper, the confined single slot jet impingement is investigated numerically. Although the geometry of the jet impingement is simple, the flow pattern of the jet impingement is complex and the numerical results of the jet impingement is affected much by numerical methods. The first goal of this study is to analyze the effects of Reynolds models and numerical spatial discretization schemes on the results of heat transfer performance and the flaw characteristics and to select the best method. Various versions of the low Reynolds number k-epsilon turbulence models are compared. Using the selected numerical method, the flow field and heat transfer characteristics of confined single slot jet impingement on a moving plate are analyzed.

Separation control has been performed using the multi-array/multi-location synthetic jet on NACA23012 at high angle of attack. The flow control using single synthetic jet shows that stall characteristics can be substantially improved with delayed separation point. Theses results show the characteristic of unsteady flow of single synthetic jet. Beside, we researched on multi-array synthetic jet to obtain applicable synthetic jet velocity. Multi-location synthetic jet is proposed to eliminate small vortex on suction surface of airfoil. With the results, we concluded that the flow around airfoil is stable by high frequency synthetic jet with elimination of small vortex and confirmation of stable flow. Moreover, performance of multi-array/multi-location synthetic jet can be improved by changing phase angle of multi-location synthetic jet.

The objective of this paper is to study experimentally on the noise characteristics of supersonic jet from multihole orifice in the range of jet pressure from $at_g$ to $at_g$ in the reverberation room. At first, the single orifice jets are investigated for various hole diameter from 3.8mm to 10mm. Through the noise spectrum, the turbulent mixing noise and the shock associated noise is analyzed. The noise for confined jets into a tube of diameter 30mm or 90mm with length 2m is investigated in comparision with that for the free jets. The sound power level is measured and compared with thoretical models for free jet. At second, multihole orifice jets are investigated to study the effect of multijet on noise reduction. The spectrum and power level of multijets are measured and compared with single jets. The multi-jets in a confined pipe are also investigated. It is found that the noise spectrum is significantly altered by increasing the number of jet with decrease in jet diameter and also by confining the jet into tube.
Experimental studies on the characteristics of annular jet pump were carried out in this paper. The effects of high pressure chamber on the characteristics of annular jet pump were sought in this paper. Experiments were done for three shapes of high pressure chamber, and for several lengths of the high pressure chamber. Three types of the high pressure chamber's entrances($90^{\circ}$ single inflow, $45^{\circ}$ single inflow, and $45^{\circ}$ double inflow) were tested. Water was used for both the primary fluid and secondary fluid. The results obtained in this study are as follows; $45^{\circ}$ double inflow type is the most effective among the tested three types of the high pressure chamber's entrances. The efficiency of jet pump with 400mm of high pressure chamber length is the highest among the chamber lengths tested in this study, thus indicating appropriate chamber length is required to get an efficient jet pump.
