  • In this paper, slack is computed from a comparison of the cable pay out rate and the ship ground speed in accordance with laying conditions, and the speed controller of the cable engine based on an H(sub)$\infty$ servo control id designed for adjusting the cable engine in order to lay a desired amount of slack. The controller is designed for robust tracking of the cable engine under disturbances. The performance of the designed controller is evaluated by computer simulation, and, consequently, a feasibility study for laying the submarine cable stably is done through analyzing simulation results.

  • Color simulation on a portable colorimeter was performed to distinguish quantitatively a chromaticity coordinates on a color guide of a urine strips by using the spectral power distribution of chip LED, the spectral reflectance of printed objects, and the spectral sensitivity of photodiode. The CIE tristimulus values and chromaticity coordinates realized by a colorimeter were modified to be conformable with real color reactions. Experimental results showed a real color in comparison with those obtained by Colorimeter CM2C(Color Savvy).

  • Standard acceptance sampling plans models the production pricess as a sequence of independent identically distributed Beruoulli random variables. However, the quality of items sampled sequentially from an ongoing production process of ten exhibits statistical dependency that is not accounted for in standard acceptance sampling plans. In this paper, a dependent production process is modelled as an ARMA process and as a two-state Markov chain. A simulation study of each is performed. A comparison of the probability of acceptance is done for the simulation method and for the approximation method.

  • There have been a lot of efforts to find more accurate evaluation methods for traffic signal control effectiveness for a long period of time. Nowadays a newly advanced method called HILSS, 'Hardware-in-the-Loop-Simulation System', is used to evaluate the overall traffic control's effectiveness including physical control environments like communication conditions, hardware performance, controller's mechanical operations and so on. In this study, an Online-HILSS model has been developed, which runs on CORSIM(5.0) micro traffic simulation model on-lined to COSMOS. For the verification of the model, three tests are performed as follows; (1) a comparison of TMC's timing plan with the simulated green interval, (2) as a case study, a delay distribution comparison of the online simulation with the CORSIM stand-alone simulation. The result of the first test shows that the model can run the simulation green interval by TMC's timing plan correctly. The result of second test shows that the online simulation of the model brings the same simulation results with the CORSIM offline simulation in case of the same timing plan. These results mean that the online evaluation model could be a reliable tool to measure a real-time signal control effectiveness of a wide area street network with the HILSS method.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of nursing simulations between multi-mode simulation and $SimMan^{(R)}$ simulation on nursing students' nursing competency, satisfaction, and simulation participation experience in nursing care for patients with dyspnea. Method: Subjects were 107 junior nursing students in R College of Nursing in Seoul from June to November in 2009. Students were allocated to either a Multi-mode simulation group or a $SimMan^{(R)}$ simulation group. The multi-mode simulation consisted of standardized patients combined with Vital Sim, comparing the $SimMan^{(R)}$ group. Result: The Multi-mode simulation group reported higher levels of nursing competency (p=.017) but lower communication skills (p<.001) compared to the $SimMan^{(R)}$ simulation group. There were no meaningful differences in satisfaction of simulation education between the two groups. The $SimMan^{(R)}$ simulation group received a substantial health assessment and the Multi-mode simulation group experienced reality in caring for standardized patients. Conclusion: The findings of this study demonstrated that Multi-mode simulation has similar educational effects like $SimMan^{(R)}$ simulation and suggest that nurse educators should match simulation fidelity with educational goals for effective education.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to compare the effects of simulation-based training on knowledge, self-efficacy and clinical performance, underwent before or after the clinical practice for the nursing students. Method: A comparison group design was established with pre-clinical practice group (n=34) and post-clinical practice group (n=34). Both groups participated in simulation-based training before or after the clinical practice at the recovery room. Chi-square test, t-test and paired t-test were performed to analyze the data. Results: Both groups showed significantly higher post-test scores in knowledge and self-efficacy than pre-test scores (p<.001). The group with simulation training performed before their clinical practice (pre-clinical practice group) showed significantly higher self-efficacy (p=.044) than the group with simulation training done after their clinical practice (post-clinical practice group). However, there was no significant difference in the knowledge (p=.922) and clinical performance (p=.887). Conclusion: These findings of the study suggest that simulation based training in pre-clinical practice is effective to enhance the self-efficacy and to improve knowledge and clinical performance of the nursing students.
