Due to the climate change and various rainfall pattern, it is difficult to estimate a rainfall criterion which cause inundation for urban drainage districts. It is necessary to examine the result of inundation analysis by considering the detailed topography of the watershed, drainage system, and various rainfall scenarios. In this study, various rainfall scenarios were considered with the probabilistic rainfall and Huff's time distribution method in order to identify the rainfall characteristics affecting the inundation of the Hyoja drainage basin. Flood analysis was performed with SWMM and two-dimensional inundation analysis model and the parameters of SWMM were optimized with flood trace map and GA (Genetic Algorithm). By linking SWMM and two-dimensional flood analysis model, the fitness ratio between the existing flood trace and simulated inundation map turned out to be 73.6 %. The occurrence of inundation according to each rainfall scenario was identified, and the rainfall criterion could be estimated through the logistic regression method. By reflecting the results of one/two dimensional flood analysis, and AWS/ASOS data during 2010~2018, the rainfall criteria for inundation occurrence were estimated as 72.04 mm, 146.83 mm, 203.06 mm in 1, 2 and 3 hr of rainfall duration repectively. The rainfall criterion could be re-estimated through input of continuously observed rainfall data. The methodology presented in this study is expected to provide a quantitative rainfall criterion for urban drainage area, and the basic data for flood warning and evacuation plan.
In this study we proposed a simple method for generating multi-site daily rainfall based on the 1-order Markov chain and considering the spatial correlation. The occurrence of rainfall is simulated by a simple 1st-order Markov chain and its intensity to be chosen randomly from the observed data. The spatial correlation between sites could be conserved as the rainfall intensity at each site is to be chosen consistently with the target site in time through generation. It is found that the generated daily rainfall data reproduce genera] characteristics of the observed data such as average, standard deviation, average number of wet and dry days, but the clustering level in time is somewhat loosened. Thus, the lag-I correlation coefficient of the generated data gave smaller value than the observed, also the average lengths of wet run and dry run and the wet-to-wet and dry-to-dry probabilities were a bit less than the observed. This drawback seems to be overcome somewhat by choosing a proper site representing overall basin characteristics or by use of more detailed states of rainfall occurrence.
This study is aimed at the establishment and examination of stochastic model to simulate Run-length and Run-sum of daily rainfall and streamflow. In the analysis, daily rainfall records in major cities (Seoul, Kangnung, Taegu, Kwangju, Busan, and Cheju) and daily streamflow records of Major rivers (Han, Nakdong and Geum River) were used. Also, the fitness of daily rainfall and streamflow to Weibull and one parameter exponential distribution was tested by Chi-square and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, from which it was found that daily rainfall and streamflow generally fit well to exponential type distribution function. The Run-length and Run-sum were simulated by the Weibull Model (WBL Model), one parameter exponential model (EXP-1 Model) based on the Nonte Carlo technique. In this result, Run-length of rainfall was fitted for one parameter exponential model and Run-length of streamflow was fitted for Weibull model. And Run-sum of rainfall and streamflow were fit comparatively for regression model. Hereby, statistical charactristics of Simulation data were sinilar to historical data.

In this study, we developed a hybrid forecasting model based on a four-parameter distribution which allows a simultaneous season-ahead forecasting for both seasonal rainfall and sub-daily rainfall in Han-River and Geum-River basins. The proposed model is mainly utilized a set of time-varying predictors and the associated model parameters were estimated within a Bayesian nonstationary rainfall frequency framework. The hybrid forecasting model was validated through an cross-validatory experiment using the recent rainfall events during 2014~2017 in both basins. The seasonal precipitation results showed a good agreement with the observations, which is about 86.3% and 98.9% in Han-River basin and Geum-River basin, respectively. Similarly, for the extreme rainfalls at sub-daily scale, the results showed a good correspondence between the observed and simulated rainfalls with a range of 65.9~99.7%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the proposed model could be used to better consider climate variability at multiple time scales.

A general rainfall outflow in urban drainage has early time of concentration because urban drainage areas are most paved area. In general, rainfall outflow is flowed in drainage pump station and is discharged to rivers in urban areas. However it is excluded through drainage pumps about a heavy rainfall which exceed the design rainfall and the rainfall outflows increase the urban inundation risk. A current pump operation is control according to water level of collecting well or reservoir in drain pump station. But recently, the localized downpours are happened frequently in urban drainage and the current pump stations are frequently incapable of the heavy rainfall outflows. In this study, a real urban inundation was simulated and the drain capacity of drain pump station was evaluated by analysis about flood-factor in urban underground passage. Then the analysis about the inundation was done by the simulation about the real rainfall which cause the inundation. Also, in the simulation the inundation risk and the evaluation of flood-factor were analyzed according to change of the pump operation rule.

Temporal and spatical surface runoff by heavy rainfall during 25~28 July, 2011 causing urban flooding at Seoul were analyzed using Long-Term Hydrologic Impact Assessment (L-THIA). L-THIA was calibrated for 1988~1997 and validated for 1998~2007 using monthly observed data at Hangangseoul watershed which covers 90 % of Seoul city. As a results of calibration and validation of L-THIA at Hangangseoul watershed, Nash-Sutcliffe coefficients were 0.99 for calibration and 0.99 for validation. The simulated values were good agreement with observed data and both calibrated and validated levels were "very good" based on calibration criteria. The calibrated curve number (CN) values of residential and other urban area represented 87 % and 93 % of impervious area, respectively, which were maximum percentage of impervious area. As a result of L-THIA application at Seoul city during 25~28 July, 2011, most of rainfall (54 %, 287.49 mm) and surface runoff (65 %, 247.32) were generated at 27 July, 2011 and a significant amount of rainfall and surface runoff were occurred at southeastern Seoul city. As a result of bi-hourly spatial and temporal analysis during 27 July, 2011, surface runoff during 2:00~4:00 and 8:00~10:00 were much higher than those during other times and surface runoff located at Seocho-gu during 6:00~8:00 represented maximum value with maximum rainfall intensity which caused landslide from Umyun mountain.

In this research, enhanced land-cover classification methods using high-resolution satellite image (HRSI) and GIS in terms of practicality and accuracy was proposed. It aims for understanding non-point pollutant origin/loading, assessment the efficiency of rainfall storage/infiltration facilities and sounds water-environment management. The result of applying enhanced land-cover classification methods to the urban region verifies that roof and road area are including various vegetations such as roof garden, flower bed in the median strip and street tree. This accounts for 3% of total study area, and more importantly it was counted as impervious area by GIS alone or conventional indoor work. The feasibility of the method was assessed by applying to rainfall-runoff analysis for three weak rainfall in the range of 7.1-10.5 mm events in 2000, Chiba, Japan. A good agreement between simulated and observed runoff hydrograph was obtained. In comparison, the hydrograph simulated with land-use parameters by the detailed land-use information of 10m grid had an error between 31%~71%, while enhanced method showed 4% to 29%, and showed the improvement particularly for reproducing observed peak and recession flow rate of hydrograph in weak rainfall condition.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate effects of spatio-temporal changes in land uses and rainfall magnitude using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). Prior of application of the model to real-world problem, the model should be calibrated and validated properly. In most modeling approaches, the validation process is done assuming no significant changes occurring at the study watershed between calibration and validation periods, which is not proper assumption for agricultural watersheds. If simulated results obtained with calibrated parameters match observed data with higher accuracy for validation period, this does not always mean the simulated result represents rainfall-runoff, pollutant generation and transport mechanism for validation period because temporal and spatial variables and rainfall magnitude are often not the same. In this study SWAT was applied to Mandae study watershed in Korea to evaluate effects of spatio-temporal changes in landuses using 2009 and 2010 crop data for each field at the watershed. The Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency (NSE) values for calibration and validation with either 2009 or 2010 was evaluated and the NSE value for calibration with 2009 and calibration with 2010 were compared. It was found that if there is substantial change in land use and rainfall, model calibration period should be determined to reflect those changes. Through these approaches, inherent limitation of the SWAT, which does not consider changes in land uses over the simulation period, was investigated. Also, Effects of changes in rainfall magnitude during calibration process were analyzed.
Simulation results of WRF for the case of typhoon 'Rusa' were analyzed, comparing with observed data especially forjavascript:confirm_mark('abe', '1'); the Gangneung area around to examine its ability in numerical simulation. From the hourly precipitation time series, two peaks were found at Gangneung and Daegwallyeong, while only one peak was found from those of inland regions else. Especially, for the Yeongdong region, the first peak was directly related to spiral bands generated in front of the typhoon. Convective cells that were developed within the spiral bands moved to the eastern coastal area from the sea so that local heavy rainfall occurred in the Yeongdong region. The second peak was mainly related to the accompanying rain band of typhoon itself, topographic effect and the convergence near Gangneung area. Precipitation in Gangneung was simulated as much as about 30% of observed one. The main reason of this result came from a poor representation of wind directions in Gangneung area of WRF model. Observed wind direction was northwesterly but simulated one was nearly easterly in the area. This might shift a local heavy rainfall area downstream to the mountain area rather than the coastal area.

It is experienced fact as a regular annual event that the structure to he designed on unreasonable flood for the agricultural structures including reservoirs have been brought not only loss of lives, but also enormous property damage. For the solution of this problem at issue, this study was conducted to develop an optimal runoff hydrograph model by comparison of the peak flows and time to peak between observed and simulated flows derived by linear time-invariant and linear time-variant models under the condition of having a short duration of heavy rainfall with uniform rainfall intensity at nine small watersheds which are within the range of 55.9 to 140.7 square kilometers in area in Han, Geum, Nagdong and Yeongsan Rivers. The results obtained through this study can be summarized as follows. 1. Storage constants and Gamma function arguments were calculated within the range of 1.2 to 6.42 and of 1.28 to 8.05 respectively by the moment method as the parameters for the analysis of runoff hydrograph based on linear time-invariant model. 2. Parameters for both linear time-invariant and linear time-variant models were calibrated with nine gaged watershed data, using a trial and error method. The resulting parameters including Gamma function argument, N and storage constant, K for linear time-invariant model were related statistically to watershed characteristic variables such as area, slope, length of main stream and the centroid length of the basin. 3. Average relative errors of the simulated peak discharge of calibrated runoff hydrographs by using linear time-variant and linear time-invariant models were shown to be 0.75 and 5.42 percent respectively to the peak of observed runoff hydrographs. Correlation coefficients for the statistical analysis in the same condition were shown to be 0.999 and 0.978 with a high significance respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that the accuracy of a linear time-variant model is approaching more closely to the observed runoff hydrograph than that of a linear time-invariant model in the applied watersheds. 4. Average relative errors of the time to peak of calibrated runoff hydrographs by using linear time-variant and linear time-invariant models were shown to be 16.44 and 19.89 percent respectively to the time to peak of observed runoff hydrographs. Correlation coefficients in the same condition were also shown to be 0.999 and 0.886 with a high significance respectively. 5. It can be seen that the shape of simulated hydrograph based on a linear time- variant model is getting closer to the observed runoff hydrograph than that of a linear time-invariant model in the applied watersheds. 6. Two different models were verified with different rainfall-runoff events from data for the calibration by relative error and correlation analysis. Consequently, it can be generally concluded that verification results for the peak discharge and time to peak of simulated runoff hydrographs were in good agreement with those of calibrated runoff hydrographs.
