Reliability Characteristics of Class-E Power Amplifier using Class-F Driving Circuit (Class-F 구동회로를 사용하는 Class-E 전력 증폭기의 신뢰성)

  • A class-E CMOS RF(Radio frequency) power amplifier with a 1.8 Volt power supply is designed using $0.25{\mu}m$ standard CMOS technology. To drive the class-E power amplifier, a Class-F RF power amplifier is used and the reliability characteristics are studied with a class-E load network. After one year of operating the power amplifier with an RF choke, the PAE(Power Added Efficiency) decreases from 60% to 47% and the output power decreases 29%. However, when a finite DC-feed inductor is used with the load, the PAE decreases from 60% to 53% and the output power decreases only 19%. The simulated results demonstrate that the class-E power amplifier with a finite DC-feed inductor exhibits superior reliability characteristics.

  • The conventional central photo voltaic inverters have several problems. First, shadow problem in each solar panel, and high DC voltage problem from each panel because of concentration to one central inverter. Therefore, module integrated inverter is proposed to solve these problems. The inverter should be small and cost effective. The cost and size in the inverter depend on the inductor. So the switching frequency should be increased to reduce the inductor and total size, but there is a problem in efficiency because of the losses in turn-on and turn-off. In the paper, the critical conduction mode(CRM) switching method is adopted to reduce the switching loss and interleaving method is proposed to increase the efficiency in Flyback converter. Finally, the validity of the proposed scheme is investigated with simulated and experimental results for a prototype system rated at 200W.

  • We have simulated and Laid out a Single Flux Quantum(SFQ) AND gate for Arithmetic Logic Unit by using XIC, WRspice and Lmeter. This circuit is a combination of two D Flip-Flop. D Flip- Flop and dc SQUID are the similar shape from the fact that it has the a loop inductor and two Josephson junction. We also obtained operating margins and accomplished layout of the AND gate. We got the margin of $\pm$42% over.

  • A 20 MHz CMOS continuous low-pass filter using simulated floating inductor consisted of two fully-differential transconductors and a capacitor is presented. The theory of operation is described and simulation results show close agreement between predicted behaviour and experimential performance. Simulation results show that the filter has ripple bandwidth of 22 MHz, pass-band ripple of 0.36 ㏈. and cutoff frequency of 26 MHz at supplay voltage of $\pm$3 V. The power dissipation is 19.2 ㎽.

  • To use the EMTP, in this paper, a arcing horn is simulated by non-linear resistor and inductor element using TACS, a tower by distributed parameter model, and lines as K. C. Lee model. Changing lightning current characteristics, lightning position, and tower footing resistor value, we analysis multi-phase flashover characteristics in 765 kV transmission line.

  • Recently, the real time simulator to develop the inverter drive board and motor control algorithm for high power induction motor and PM synchronous motor is required. In this paper, the real time simulator based on the voltage control for a PM synchronous motor is proposed. The resistor, inductor, and the induced voltage for the modeling of a PM synchronous motor is implemented by the power converter including the LCL filter and the PWM rectifier. The induced voltage of a PM synchronous motor is simulated by the capacitor voltage of the LCL filter, which is controlled by PI voltage controller and the deadbeat current controller. The operation and the simulated characteristics of the proposed real time simulator for a PM synchronous motor is verified by the simulation.

  • In this paper, the external-exciting electronic ballast for an 100[W] high pressure sodium lamp using full-bridge inviter is designed. The L-C parallel full-bridge invert circuit for P-SPICE simulation is designed. The values of inductor and capacitor in the proposed equivalent L-C parallel resonant tank circuit are calculated theoretically. Then the ballast for high pressure sodium lamp is implemented using the simulated results. In the experimental results, that is confirmed which the results of implemented ballast are really same with the of simulated one.

  • In this paper, embedded spiral inductors are investigated into the PCB substrate for low cost RF SOP applications. The spiral inductors designed with geometrical variations were simulated, fabricated, measured, and characterized by using 3D EM simulator, 8 layered PCB standard process and HP 8510B network analyzer (or verifying their applicability. The fabricated embedded spiral inductor has inductance of 9.4 nH at 800MHz, maximum quality factor of 64.8 at 1.09GHz and self resonant frequency of 3.93GHz, respectively. As the measured inductances and quality factors are well matched with simulated ones. PCB embedded spiral inductors are promising for advanced electronic systems with various functionality, low cost, small size and volume.

Development of High-Performance Ultra-small Size RF Chip Inductors (고성능의 초소형 RF 칩 인덕터 개발)

  • Ultra-small size, high-performance, solenoid-type RF chip inductors utilizing low-loss A1$_2$O$_3$ core materials were investigated. The dimensions of the RF chip inductors fabricated were 1.0mm${\times}$0.5mm${\times}$0.5mm and copper coils were used. The materials (96% A1$_2$O$_3$) and shape (I-type) of the core, the diameters (40${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) and position (middle) of the coil, and the lengths (0.35mm) of solenoid were determined by a high-frequency structure simulator (HFSS) to maximize the performance of the inductors. The high-frequency characteristics of the inductance (L) and quality-factor (Q) of the developed inductors were measured using a RF impedance/material analyzer (E4991A with E16197A test fixture). The developed inductors exhibit an inductance of 11 to 11.3nH and a qualify factor of 22.3 to 65.7 over the frequency ranges of 250 MHz to 1.7 GHz, and show results comparable to those measured for the inductors prepared by Coilcraft$^{TM}$. The simulated data described the high-frequency data of the L and Q of the fabricated inductors well.

A Study on Design of Magnetic Thin Film Inductors for DC-DC Converter Applications (DC-DC Converter용 자성박막 인덕터 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the optimum structure of a magnetic thin film inductor was designed for application of DC-DC converters. The Ni$\sub$81/Fe$\sub$19/ (at%) alloy was selected as a high-frequency($\geq$MHz) magnetic thin film magnetron sputtering system. As-deposited NiFe thin films show similar magnetic properties compared to bulk NiFe alloys, indicating that they have a good film quality. The optimum design of dolenoid-type magnetic thin film inductors was performed utilizing a Maxwell computer simulator (Ansoftt HFSS V7.0 for PC) and parameters obtained from the magnetic properties of magnetic core materials selected. The high-frequency characteristics of the inductance(L) and quality factor(Q) obtained for the designed inductors through simulation agreed well with those obtained by theoretical calculations, confirming that the simulated result is realistic. The optimum structure of high-performance (Q$\geq$60, L = 1${\mu}$H, efficiency $\geq$90%), high-frequency ($\geq$5MHz), and solenoid-type magnetic thin film inductors was designed successfully.
