  • RM(Switched Reluctance Motor)'s Torque is generated by phase-current and inductance profile. A new analytical concept is proposed to determine the turn-off angle for maximization of the torque output. This paper describes a new method to maximization the average torque of a current control Switched Reluctance Motor. It is based on the simplified turn-off angle equation using least square method. Simulations carried out on a three-phase 6/4 pole SRM justify the algorithm is described. The suggested maximization average torque is verified by simulation in this paper.

  • Numerical analyses on the aerodynamic characteristics of a counter rotating axial flow fan is carried out using the frequency domain panel method. Front rotor and rear rotor blades of a counter rotating axial fan are designed by using the simplified meridional flow analysis method with the radial equilibrium equation and the free vortex design condition, according to design requirements. Performance characteristics of a counter rotating axial flow fan are estimated for the variation of design parameters such as the hub to tip ratio, the taper ratio and the solidity. Pressure losses were higher at leading edge and hub region of rotor blades. Characteristic curve of the counter rotating fan was overpredicted without consideration of viscous effect.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to develop the pulse wave analysis model with the palpation pressure and the skin effect. Methods: The position of pulse diagnosis was modeled with elastic string system. The skin was modeled with the elastic string, the palpation pressure with tension in the string, and the blood vessel pressure with external force on the string. Using the wave equation in the physics, the simplified pulse model was transformed to the mathematical model. Results: To the verification of the model, the effects of the palpation pressure and the skin effect were tested. Conclusions: There was optimal palpation pressure, describing the exact vessel pressure pattern and maximizing the amplitude of the skin displacement. For the optimal condition, the increased palpation pressure was needed with the increased skin thickness. Therefore, the developed pulse wave analysis model showed the good results.

  • Ferroresonance is a resonance condition between a nonlinear iron core of a potential transformer (PT) and a capacitance. It can lead to PT voltages several times the normal equipment ratings, and cause the isolation broken and damage to equipments near the PT. This paper proposes a analysis method of PT ferroresonance in the time domain. Based on the simplified equivalent circuit, a differential equation was found and the flux was calculated when ferroresonance generates. The forced response and natural response were also analyzed. The performance of proposed analysis method was verified with the EMTP-RV generated data. The method can help analysis chaotic ferroresonance and periodic ferroresonance.

  • This paper proposes a novel systematic modeling approach for an integrated single-stage power converter in order to predict its dynamic characteristics. The basic strategy of the proposed modeling is substituting the internal converters with an equivalent current source, and then deriving the dynamic equations under a standalone operation using the state-space averaging technique. The proposed approach provides an intuitive modeling solution and simplified mathematical process with accurate dynamic prediction. The simulation and experimental results by using an integrated boost-flyback converter prototype provide verification consistent with theoretical expectations.

  • This paper presents a servo design method for high track-density hard disk drives, in which the plant time delay, mainly due to the processor computation time, is taken into account. The key idea behind the proposed design method is to incorporate the delay model into the output equation of the state-space representation for the plant model; thereby, the delay is accounted for by a standard state observer in a natural manner, with simplified state equations as compared to those for conventional methods. The results from practical application confirm that the proposed method is quite effective in realizing a high-bandwidth servo system in hard disk drives.

  • Vehicle interior noise is the results of numerous sources of excitation. One source involving tire pavement interaction is the tire cavity resonance and the forcing it provides to the vehicle spindle. Using a simplified model for the tire acoustic cavity system only, we formulated finite element equation to predict the fundamental acoustic cavity resonant characteristics inside tire-wheel assembly of undeformed and deformed tire. Combining the finite element analysis with experimental verification, we explained the acoustic characteristics theoretically. Especially, we have shown that the difference between the first two resonant frequencies increases as the deformation of deformed tire increases.

  • This study has ben conducted to investigate the effect of the number of bolts on stiffness and strength of a double-angle connection and to propose two simplified models that can predict the initial stiffness and ultimate connection moment of a double-angle connection, respectively. In adition, we also aim to provide some basic reference data for structural designers to choose the most adequate prediction equation and to more precisely double-angle connection.

  • It is well known that the ultimate compressive strength of concrete filled tubular stub-column is higher than that of the simplified evaluating value because of the confinement effect of infilled concrete. In this paper, It is compared the experimental results of other researchers with estimated ones by using the formulae. Finally, It is shown that the predicted equation is obtained by using the numerical analysis.

  • The relationship between mass transfer and reaction within the washcoat is investigated in a monolith type micro-scale Pt-catalytic combustor. Nondimensionalized balance equation of butane is applied in a simplified washcoat geometry having the shape of slab. Both Thiele modulus and effectiveness factor are considered to compare reaction rate and diffusion rate according to the operation temperature and the diameter of alumina nano-pores. The effect of reaction becomes stronger as the temperature increases, while the effect of diffusion becomes relatively dominant as the diameter of nano-pores increases. From the analysis of butane distribution within the washcoat, design criterion for the thickness of washcoat is discussed.
