  • This paper is a study on the design of adptive filter for QRS complex detection. We propose a simple adaptive algorithm to increase capability of noise cancelation in QRS complex detection with two stage adaptive filter. At the first stage, background noise is removed and at the next stage, only spectrum of QRS complex components is passed. Two adaptive filters can afford to keep track of the changes of both noise and QRS complex. Each adaptive filter consists of prediction error filter and FIR filter The impulse response of FIR filter uses coefficients of prediction error filter. The detection rates for 105 and 108 of MIT/BIH data base were 99.3% and 97.4% respectively.

  • A new implementation method for MPDSAP(Maximally Polyphase Decomposed Subband Affine Projection) adaptive filter is proposed. The affine projection(AP) adaptive filter achieves fast convergence speed, however, its implementation is so expensive because of the matrix inversion for a weight-updating of adaptive filter. The maximally polyphase decomposed subband filtering allows the AP adaptive filter to avoid the matrix inversion, moreover, by using a pipelining technique, the simple subband structured AP is suitable for VLSI implementations concerning throughput, power dissipation and area. Computer simulations are presented to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we suggest a new technique which employ the pipelined architecture for the implementation of the SAP adaptive filter using variable step size. According as SAP adaptive filter is sufficiently decomposed, a simplified SAP adaptive filter can be derived, and the weights of adaptive sub-filters can be updated by a simple formular without a matrix inversion. The convergence speed and the steady state error of the simplified SAP adaptive filter are improved by using variable step size. For practical implementation, the simplified SAP adaptive sub-filters are transformed by the pipeline technique.

  • In this study, we propose the new filter bank that is adaptive filter bank using neural networks in time domain. Also, we proposed a new filter neuron as neuron with filter window, the structure and algorithm for filter banks. The performance of neural filter banks is shown from two examples. It show characteristics the simple structure and higher speed processing than traditional methods (filter banks in frequency domain, etc.). In many applications, the proposed method will provide the high performance to features detection of signals in time domain.

  • LMS algorithm has been used for plant identifier and noise cancellation. This algorithm has been researched for performance enhancement of filtering. The design and development of a reliable system has been becoming a key issue in industry field because the reliability of a system is considered as an important factor to perform the system's function successfully. And the computing with reliability and fault tolerance is a important factor in the case of aviation, system communication, and nuclear plant. This paper presents design of reliable adaptive filter with fault tolerance. Generally, redundancy is used for reliability. In this case it needs computing or circuit for voting mechanism, or fault detection. Therefore it has simple computing, and practicality for application. And in this paper, reliability of adaptive filter is analyzed. The effectiveness of the proposed adaptive filter is demonstrated to the case studies of plant identifier and noise cancellation by using DSP.

  • In this paper, we study real time AEC (acoustic echo canceller) based on NLMS adaptive filter. Proposed method improves conversation quality by enhancing the performance of AEC during double talk section and reduces the power consumption by controling the adaption operation of NLMS adaptive filter. Proposed method examines the convergence of the NLMS adaptive filter, stores the estimated echo path and chooses operation of NLMS adaptive filter. Furthermore if double talk is detected, the proposed AEC utilizes the stored echo path optionally considering missed double talk time. When the proposed AEC is used, the performance of the AEC is enhanced although the simple double talk detector is used and the power consumption of the AEC is reduced.

  • Multiplication free adaptive digital filtering algorithms are discussed. The proposed. The proposed algorithm uses delta modulation digital filter and the relevant filter weights are updated using the SIGN algorithms to realize an adaptive digital filter without multiplication operations. It is shown that the resulting algorithm can be implemented using simple up/down counting operations. The convergence characteristics of the proposed adaptive digital filtering algorithm and .others are investigated for a system identification problem.

  • This paper proposes a reverse filtering system of sound field obtaining a state of sound field transmitted from two sounds, using an adaptive filter and neural network. The proposed system uses the reverse filtering method with calculating and renewing a coefficient of a filter, using least mean square. Based on training the neural network, experiments confirm that the proposed system is effective for a simple waveform with non-linear distortion, by using neural network and adaptive filtering method.

  • The voluntary EMG (vEMG) signal from electrically stimulated muscle is very useful for feedback control in functional electrical stimulation. However, the recorded EMG signal from surface electrodes has unwanted stimulation artifact and M-wave as well as vEMG. Here, we propose an event-synchronous adaptive digital filter for the suppression of stimulation artifact and M-wave in this application. The proposed method requires a simple experimental setup that does not require extra hardware connections to obtain the reference signals of adaptive digital filter. For evaluating the efficiency of this proposed method, the filter was tested and compared with a least square (LS) algorithm using previously measured data. We conclude that the cancellation of both primary and residual stimulation artifacts is enhanced with an event-synchronous adaptive digital filter and shows promise for clinical application to rehabilitate paretic limbs. Moreover because this algorithm is far simpler than the LS algorithm, it is portable and ready for real-time application.
