The searching of an extensive document database for documents that are locally similar to a given query document, and the subsequent detection of similar regions between such documents, is considered as an essential task in the fields of information retrieval and data management. In this paper, we present a framework for such a task. The proposed framework employs the method of short-read mapping, which is used in bioinformatics to reveal similarities between genomic sequences. In this paper, documents are considered biological objects; consequently, edit operations between locally similar documents are viewed as an evolutionary process. Accordingly, we are able to apply the method of evolution tracing in the detection of similar regions between documents. In addition, we propose heuristic methods to address issues associated with the different stages of the proposed framework, for example, a frequency-based fragment ordering method and a locality-aware interval aggregation method. Extensive experiments covering various scenarios related to the search of an extensive document database for documents that are locally similar to a given query document are considered, and the results indicate that the proposed framework outperforms existing methods.
Some of the current main research areas involving techniques related to XML consist of storing XML documents, optimizing the query, and indexing. As such we may focus on the set of documents that are composed of various structures, but that are not shared with common structure such as the same DTD or XML Schema. In the case, it is essential to analyze structural similarities and differences among many documents. For example, when the documents from the Web or EDMS (Electronic Document Management System) are required to be merged or classified, it is very important to find the common structure for the process of handling documents. In this paper, we transformed sequential pattern mining algorithms(1) to extract maximal similar paths between two XML documents. Experiments with XML documents show that our transformed sequential pattern mining algorithms can exactly find common structures and maximal similar paths between them. For analyzing experimental results, similarity metrics based on maximal similar paths can exactly classify the types of XML documents.
XML is increasingly important in data exchange and information management. Starting point for retrieving the structure and integrating the documents efficiently is clustering the documents that have similar structure. The reason is that we can retrieve the documents more flexible and faster than the method treating the whole documents that have different structure. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the similar structure-based incremental clustering method useful for retrieving the structure of XML documents and integrating them. As a novel method, we use a clustering algorithm for transactional data that facilitates the large number of data, which is quite different from the existing methods that measure the similarity between documents, using vector. We first extract the representative structures of XML documents using sequential pattern algorithm, and then we perform the similar structure based document clustering, assuming that the document as a transaction, the representative structure of the document as the items of the transaction. In addition, we define the cluster cohesion and inter-cluster similarity, and analyze the efficiency of the Proposed method through comparing with the existing method by experiments.
Purpose In this study, first, we try to make embedding results that reflect the characteristics of both professional and general documents. In addition, when disparate documents are put together as learning materials for natural language processing, we try to propose a method that can measure the degree of reflection of the characteristics of individual domains in a quantitative way. Approach For this study, the Korean Supreme Court Precedent documents and Korean Wikipedia are selected as specialized documents and general documents respectively. After extracting the most similar word pairs and similarities of unique words observed only in the specialized documents, we observed how those values were changed in the process of embedding with general documents. Findings According to the measurement methods proposed in this study, it was confirmed that the degree of specificity of specialized documents was relaxed in the process of combining with general documents, and that the degree of dissolution could have a positive correlation with the size of general documents.
Recently, WWW(World Wide Web) has become a source of a large amount of information, and is now recognized not only as an information-sharing tool, but also as an information repository. Currently, the majority of documents on the web were created using HTML(Hypertext Markup Language). Although HTML is simple and easy to learn, its inherent lack of describing document structure makes it difficult to retrieve information effectively. One possible solution would be to convert such HTML documents into XML (extensible Markup Language) documents. This is a standard markup language for exchanging data on the web. It can describe a document structure freely by defining its own DTD (Document Type Definition). This makes it possible to integrate, store, and retrieve data on the web efficiently In this paper, we will propose a converter that automatically converts HTML documents with similar pattern into XML documents by analyzing the document structure and recognizing its path information.

Relevance feedback is the most popular query reformulation strategy in a relevance feedback cycle, the user is presented with a list of the retrieved documents and, after examining them, marks those which are relevant. In practice, only the top 10(or 20) ranked documents need to be examined. The main idea consists of selecting important terms, or expressions, attached to the documents that have been identified as relevant by the user, and of enhancing the importance of these terms in a new query formulation. The expected effect is that the new query will be moved towards the relevant documents and away from the non-relevant ones. Local analysis techniques are interesting because they take advantage of the local context provided with the query. In this regard, they seem more appropriate than global analysis techniques. In a local strategy, the documents retrieved for a given query q are examined at query time to determine terms for query expansion. This is similar to a relevance feedback cycle but might be done without assistance from the user.

Boolean retrieval is simple and elegant. However, since there is no provision for term weighting, no ranking of the answer set is generated. As a result, the size of the output might be too large or too small. Owing to importance of document copyright the need to detect document duplication and plagiarism is increasing. Many studies have sought to meet such need, but there are difficulties in document duplication detection due to technological limitations with the processing of natural language. This thesis designs and implements a discriminator of similar documents with natural language processing technique. This system discriminates similar documents using morphological analysis, syntactic analysis, and weight on low frequency and idiom. To evaluate the system, we analyze the correlation between human discrimination and term-based discrimination, and between human discrimination and proposed discrimination. This analysis shows that the proposed discrimination needs improving. Future research should work to define the document type and improve the processing technique appropriate for each type.
This paper discusses a new unsupervised XML document clustering technique based on the function transform and FFT(Fast Fourier Transform). An XML document is transformed into a discrete function based on the hierarchical nesting structure of the elements. The discrete function is, then, transformed into vectors using FFT. The vectors of two documents are compared using a weighted Euclidean distance metric. If the comparison is lower than the pre specified threshold, the two documents are considered similar in the structure and are grouped into the same cluster. XML clustering can be useful for the storage and searching of XML documents. The experiments were conducted with 800 synthetic documents and also with 520 real documents. The experiments showed that the function transform and FFT are effective for the incremental and unsupervised clustering of XML documents similar in structure.

Recently, researches are studied in developing efficient techniques for accessing, querying, and managing XML documents which are frequently used in the Internet. In this paper, we propose a new method to cluster XML documents efficiently. An element of a XML document corresponds to a node of the corresponding tree and an inclusion relationship of the document corresponds to a relationship between parent and child node of the tree. Therefore, similar XML documents are similar to the node's name and level of the corresponding trees. We make evaluation function with this characteristic to cluster XML documents by genetic algorithm. The experiment shows that our proposed method has better performance than other existing methods.
